Is this a legitimate good game or just a niche game for Jason Shreier?

It does a fairly good job at developing some characters. Every other aspect of the game is mediocre at best.

finished the first one two days ago, was a nice game but failed to live up to its inspirations. If you have time, go through them. If not just stick with xenogears or something

Berseria has absolute dogshit gameplay. What sets them apart is that the Legend of Heroes story spans several games and characters. It's a very slow paced story but very good.

its made by falcom, famous for the Ys series, its most certainly not generic, though their style sometimes comes off that way. Expect pretty good gameplay and dank as fuck music, though this is their most story heavy franchise, the first game is a bit slow but 2 and 3 are legit great.

But are there any scantily clad girls that you can recruit and romance? It's a tough sell if the game is that long and doesn't have any sexual tension.

It is good but really generic.
The main appeal is how extensively written and detailed the characters are. For example every npc has a new dialogue after every notable quest or world event, and they have entire sidestories that develop along the course of the game, which does wonders for immersion.

this, the world building is incredible, but you need to prepare yourself for lots of dialogue, its not an rpg you play strictly for its gameplay even though the gameplay is pretty good, and rather challenging too, but it is falcom i suppose, so thats a given. Play the first game on hard and probably the second game as well, I wouldn't go for the higher difficulties unless on new game+ though if you wanna keep sanity.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves in JRPG's. Oh great, we advanced a whole SINGLE NEW STEP in the main story, let's run around the world and talk to everyone so that we don't miss any limited events or quests.

I liked it. It reminded me that I actually like JRPGs. I had been doubting that for several years.

I had to restart SC two times because of this bullshit. It can be annoying if you're not paying attention all the time.

There's a region/town in Trails FC + SC where talking to all NPCs each time the story advance took me considerably longer than said story advancement.
And I still missed shit because

Depends on you liking or not liking JRPGs. It has a cool combat system with spells based on crystal combinations. The story is entertaining and it's divided it arcs so it doesn't feel too long.

Personally, cannot stand farming in JRPGs so quit after the reaching the second big city.

The game being so jam packed that it's easy to miss shit is a good thing. It just seems bad to you because it sets off your autism if you miss something because of it.

Most quests in Trails are on a notice board. If you don't care about getting 100% completion then you don't need to worry about the secret quests.

P5 has a good OST but absolutely HORRENDOUS usage of that ost in the game. You will essentially listen to the same combat theme for over 80 hours, it's fucking inexcusable, even niche JRPGs sometimes afford 3 different combat themes.
Not to mention that OST is still not that exceptional and i will choose any Kiseki or Ys ost over it any day.
