For the entirety of our relationship I have lived with my parents, and this hobby was passed down by my dad, while she's always been very independent (left home at 16). She didn't grow up with the same things I did and thinks they are silly, basically. She doesn't see the use of playing videogames. She is very cerebral and this is something I love about her, it's hard to find a smart woman.
Recently we leased an apartment to move in together (calling it a house was a stretch but it's tecnically our home) and she asked that I don't litter it with all my games. I said I was just gonna leave it at my parents' then but she said no, and insisted this was actually an important step and an opportunity for me to grow up. Yesterday we threw them all away. Yes, I cried. My room feels empty now. But we have been together for 5 years and my hobby was a major point of discussion in the relationship and I really do love her. If this allows us to move forward, I'll do it. She also didn't want me spending money that could be used to care for our home with games, so that was another big point.
