You should not see them as being a "half evil and a half good". Rather, they're the same person, but one saw his experiment as a success and basically became "God" and went full of himself, the other saw the experiment as a failure and contemplated the destruction of Earth and everything, and tried to make amend, but spent an existence of sadness and remorse.

Zanza is Klaus’ amibition and negative character traits. I don’t remember the line but I think Alvis’s original role as an AI was to administer how much ether was used, while Mythra manipulated the ether and Malos acted as a kill switch. Zanza created the Monados in the sense that he created the AIs, so Malos would also have one. I think Pyra was created by Mythra locking away what traits she saw as undesirable, but I don’t think it’s explained how that’s possible.

I think it depends on whether the transplanted core in Zeke is still tied to Pandy or is 'independent' somehow. Even after the remaining half of Haze's core crystal was stabbed by Jin and made completely inactive, Amalthus was still able to use the power in his half just fine, so I think you could make the argument that the part of the core in Zeke is disconnected enough from Pandy that him dying wouldn't affect her that badly.

The names they used for the cores of the processor make me wonder about that a little. Pneuma and Logos's names very clearly line up with the Holy Spirit and Son respectively, but from what I've read Ousia isn't typically used for the Father, instead it refers to the trinity as one entity. (Ontos isn't the original name, so I see it as being kind of irrelevant in this case.)
My line of thinking is that Pneuma and Logos are both incomplete, in a sense. They're limited by the blade system, and even at full power neither of them has the full set of abilities that we see from the one Monado in XB1 (mainly foresight, Monado arts, and the world creation shit we see at the end).
So, the way I see it is that the trinity in XB2 is Pneuma (holy spirit), Logos (son) and Klaus (father), each of them having one of the powers from XB1 - Pneuma getting foresight, Logos getting Monado arts, and Klaus overseeing the recreation of XB2's world (this one is a bit of a stretch, admittedly). Meanwhile, Ousia/Alvis represents god/the trinity as a single person, and therefore is a complete being who was isn't limited in the way the others were and can do all of those things on his own.
I realized about halfway through typing all of this that it's basically just a bunch of rambling nonsense, but fuck you I'm posting it anyways.

Also if you want to get KOS-MOS without much effort, equip your Blades with Gold Chips, and go make Arduran defy gravity. Legendary Cores will rain once you Blade Combo him into Smash, and then you'll just have to open up those cores and clean up your Blades inventory. Onjectively I think its one of the better NG+s out there. It has some big benefits if you're looking to do the challenge mode stuff, since the NG+ vendors sell you stuff like Pouch Expansion kits and Tiger Tiger rewards that can take huge grinds to get. You also get access to some additional blades like the Torna members that you can't get normally and you can de-equip Pyra/Mythra and other party member key blades. The only real downside to NG+ is that you will lose your Town, Quest and Story progress which are pretty minor anyways (you will lose certain story specific blades till you get to their parts in the story like Poppi QT but thats it). You will keep all your blades, lvls, affinity charts etc. You can just steam through the story with a full lvl 99 party if you so desire, or you can delvl to lvl 1 and redo it the normal way too.

Yes, you get all of the Torna Blades minus Malos and Jin, extra affinity charts for each Driver and a lot of useful shit to buy for bonus EXP, including Ether Crystals and Poppi parts, extra accessory slots for Drivers, Overdrive Protocols, weapon manuals, etc. If you want to really dive deep into various Driver build customization and unlock the maximum potential of each Driver, you pretty much have to play NG+. Clearing it is pretty short too if you skip cutscenes, I managed to do it in one weekend.

I wouldn't say they shoved it into every cutscene, unless you consider people making fun of Mythra dumb comedy. Regardless, the humour is probably there because they only had like 15 hours of game to characterize a bunch of characters before they killed them all off and they wanted to make you care about them so the deaths would have some impact. Normally the games have a lot more time to develop the characters gradually over the course of like 100hrs of gameplay but Torna has to make due with the little time it has. This is also probably why a certain number of side-quests were mandatory since the sidequests are what characterize the people of Torna and actually develop Lora and her party into a hero of the people before they're all murdered, making their deaths feel more significant.

XC1 implies that he's the embodiment of the entire trinity processor (he even says "I am Monado" which I'm sure you can read numerous ways) but XC2 states Ontos disappeared because of a space-time thing, hence wound up in the world of XC. So should I play this before i really get into xenoblade 2 main. I got both recently.

Dumbing characters down to their most basic descriptions and archetypes doesn't really paint an accurate picture of the characters though. For example, the supposed problem with tsunderes for example is that they have no character outside of their gimmick which is to be a folly to the MC, and usually their whole conflict revolves around learning to love the MC which is what makes them uninteresting waifu bait. To say that Mythra is a shitty baka tsundere suggests that that's all she is here too, but that isn't really true. She's entirely motivated by her own conflicts and goals that really have nothing to do with Rex and the resolution to her conflict isn't her coming to love Rex, its her coming to love herself with his help. Yes you can say she shows tsundere qualities, but she has more in similarity with a broken character like Asuka from Evangelion then say, your cookie-cutter schoolgirl harem tsundere. Sure, she has some generic ass comedy scenes where she sperges out like a tsundere but those make up maybe like 10% tops of the scenes shes in. Most of the time shes just cold and distant to everyone which fits her characterization pretty well. Far from what I would consider an "extreme representation" of a tsundere.

As for Pyra, I wouldn't say shes supposed to be an uguu sweet girl as much as she's supposed to be the anti-thesis of Mythra (Mythra is cold, Pyra is warm. Mythra sucks at cooking, Pyra is great at cooking, Mythra is childish, Pyra is mature and motherly) since she was created specifically to be everything Mythra felt she wasn't. Even then Pyra's true characterization is similar to Mythra, a depressed, self-loathing all-powerful being who cant understand her true purpose and would rather die than continue to inadvertently hurt people. Yes at the end of the day you can still dumb her down to "uguu im so nice and sweet" but thats really simplifying her character. That all said, you're still right that Pneuma is the best girl.

I think the normal rules around "dying" apply, regardless of whether a Driver is a full Blade Eater or simply has half a core crystal. But I assume it would be permadeath since said Blade would have an incomplete core and thus no way to reset. I'll give you that Mythra has the better overall characterization, mainly due to Torna expansion. The problem is that within the main game she doesn't evolve beyond the basic 'tsundere' personality enough. As with Asuka, despite there technically being more to her, she ultimately fails to be likeable beyond that because she doesn't really change enough.

As for Pyra, her being the opposite of Mythra doesn't really make her a good character. If anything it kinda makes her worse since she's essentially perfect, having no real flaws. The why doesn't matter. I do find it somewhat interesting that she is essentially Mythra's idea of what others would think of as perfect, because Mythra is mostly right; Pyra IS the 'ideal' girl for many men. Sadly this makes her quite bland in turn though.

Even though Malos was the final boss, he never truly felt like the primary villain to me. Especially considering how he ends up getting BTFO in almost all of his appearances. Honestly I kind of like that, it might not make for as epic of a final battle, but it the plot made up for that.

I think its fair to say that Pyra is pretty bland for the reasons you described but I don't think thats bad characterization, I just think that the end result of her characterization is a little bland in nature since shes so flawless and idealized. I think the fact that Torna helped Mythra's characterization is also true because it showed the extent of the damage she actually did, but I also feel like it was communicated between the lines well enough in the base game that I was already aware of her deep guilt and self-hatred that came from the damage she reaped in the aegis war (from moments like when Pyra talks to Corrin, when we see the damage in Tantal from the battle, from people everywhere being terrified of her) before I played through Torna, it just confirmed that for me and showed the relationships she had built that made the experience so traumatic. I agree that they could have expanded on her more in the base game but I feel like that was mostly due to her being sidelined to focus on Pyra since her connection with Rex was more personal. They at least flesh her out further in sidequests and heart to hearts which show more sides to her then just the cold distant Mythra you see through most of the main story.

All in all, you are right in that the characterization could definitely have be shown and communicated better than it was, and you're probably right that the characterization can none-the-less be bland at times, but I still think that there's more nuance to the characters here then the tropes people label them under would lead you to believe.

Numbers are objective, user. A 100 tracks sountrack containing like 50 tracks ranging from good to excellent is better than a soundtrack of 45 tracks with 15 of its track being excellent that would be Automata for example. That's just sheer numbers at work, that's all.

The Logos and Pneuma Cores are both different from each other because they still contain their programming from when they were a part of the trinity processor.
They might still look the same as Blades, but their function and personality would 100% be at least somewhat different. The Logos Core bases itself in analytical logic, while the Pneuma Core applies subjectivity and emotional arguments to be the opposite of Logos.

And appraisal of music is entirely subjective.

Every Xenoblade has a fucking amazing soundtrack but the difference maker for me that puts XC2 over the other games is the cutscene tracks. XC1 and XCX have some great ones but XC2's soundtrack really sets itself apart by having a bunch of awesome leitmotifs that carry through the whole soundtrack and add new dimensions to every song. These leitmotifs are incorporated one way or another into basically every single significant song in the game's story.

I could go through almost every song in the soundtrack and point out the leitmotifs being used but that would take a fuck ton of time so here's just one example: the boss theme for Amaltheus is a remix of the cutscene track used when we see the formative moments for his ambitions.

Little things like this are what elevate XC2's ost from being not just amazing to being possibly the best I've heard this decade.

My issue with Malos is that the game wants to have its cake and eat it. It wants to paint Malos as a villain with depth and sympathetic traits, but at the same time wants to be this vile, whacky, entertaining asshole that lacks any justifiable explanation but is fun to watch nonetheless. The game tries to cater to both but doesn't commit enough to one. Jin had next-to-no personality, but I at least acknowledge and can understand his motivations and reasons for doing what he did and having the perspective he had, even if it turned out he didn't know the entire picture about why Blades exist in the first place.

This. When it comes to the cutscenes tracks you know Mitsuda was there. For the environmental music, ACE, Hiramatsu and Kiyota know what they're doing already. But where Mitsuda shines is when it comes to cinematography, really. It was also already very apparent in Xenosaga I, where the soundtrack was excellent for the cutscenes, but subpar when it comes to environmental music. He wasn't always like this though, but nowadays it feels that way. Looks like Takahashi knows his current strengths and weaknesses. I hope the same team comes back for XC3. Also bring back Kajiura

I think the Malos' eccentricity does make sense when you read between the lines and compare him to Mythra. They both are struggling with the same base problem, they're gifted with world ending power but have no understanding of their true purpose and they spend the game wrestling with this dilemma. Malos has the additional problem of having Amaltheus' influence corrupting him, leading to him having the unconscious desire to destory everything. He looks at all of this and says 'alright, I have this world ending power, I hate everything, I guess my purpose is to destroy the earth'. Rather then accept that he is basically a slave to Amaltheus' will unconciously, he abandons him and makes it his own purpose independent of what Amaltheus wants and tries to enjoy it rather then wallow in suffering, self-doubt and self-hatred like Mythra and Pyra do which leads to him hamming it up and playing the big bad guy. It ties into the greater theme in XC2 of finding ones purpose in life which is why Morag comments on this when he dies.
