Seems cool, thanks. Is this the sort of game where side content is important for getting the full picture or can I just stick to the main story?

There are some things that only get fully explained in files you can get in the postgame, but it makes sense for it to be that way since they require knowledge of what happened throughout the game and they would've spoiled everything if you could collect them as you went. The major stuff is explained in the main story itself.

There's a lot of post game content, including the ability to replay each day of the main story as much as you want. So you don't need to worry about missing anything. But if you just rush the main story the game can get pretty difficult towards the end if you play on anything above easy (you can change difficulty at any time in the menu though)

I finished Xenoblade 1 last week and I'm halfway through Xenoblade 2
Both games are giving me heavy nostalgic 90s JRPG vibes with their stories and characters, something I haven't really experienced in a JRPG in a long time.

Thinking of playing Threads of Fate next, how is it?

I think he means the story is sort of circular (just swap Pirates' Island with Crescent Isle). The game even makes a point to make Shrine Island both the first dungeon and the start of the last one.

I can’t perpsnally pick a favourite though, the game has too many fantastic tracks.
That said - holy shit why don’t more games do the layered music thing.
Like when you fly near Valua and the music gets the martial drums in the back, or you fly over Nasrad and it gets the Arabian twang.
Or the way the boss music has normal / you’re fucked / you’re winning modes.
Shit was so fantastic, and I can’t think of any games that did it so well.

No, they used it to build the Albatross III. Don't get me wrong, I like the classic pirate aesthetic but it's a damn shame because the Delphinus was a fine ship.

There was a fantastic tribute to Skies in the Sega All Stars Racing. I actually complained to my friend when I watched him play it that there were Valuan ships just flying around the pirates not caring, but he told me to just keep watching. As race goes on, the battle around the level keeps intensifying.
