The gameplay is fun but the story is as bad as it gets, especially if you go in to it with any memories of FFX.

It's more tolerable if you consider it and all future additions to FFX's story are fever dreams and non-canon.

Square says otherwise, but Square is dumb as fuck.

Back when i first played it i was put off by the story too, felt some emotional whiplash. But looking back on it it makes a bit sense. Spira is finally free from Sin (for good) after all this time, no more looming threat, no more "why build things since Sin will just fuck everything up again when he returns". Also by the end of the game (i'd say after Yuna's concert) things start to return back to normal. There were also some storylines like the Guado/Macalania fate that i liked.

Basically, if Spira was a person, it was going through the phase of finally moving out of the house and living by itself with no overbearing parents. It goes nuts with its newfound freedom but after a while the high wares off and gets its shit in order. Or maybe i'm overthinking it. Also fuck the novels.

It did decent worldbuilding for X-2, but the story itself was a bit stupid.

Ah yeah, the whole Shuyin/Lenne thing. I tend to forget it for the most part so i agree with you there, it's the weakest part of the game.

Its a fun great game and you can really appreciate. Emphasis on its just fun though.
The game had the potential to be a FANTASTIC sequel but they just seemed to have rushed it out. Build up was all over the place and the game was needing a lot more depth and background to things than they actually gave.

It was also missing potentially elaborating on the circumstances by perhaps making them play out a bit further than what it got to in the game.

No matter what though this game is insanely fun.

I thought the story was cute enough. Has a unique world, funky setup for a villain/monster that ties into why the protagonist is even there.

I'm fine with the world building it does, but the actual story and then the whole Tidus was the dream, Shuyin was the real person, who happened to have a girlfriend that looked like Yuna but not really thing was fucking stupid.

Makes perfect sense when you realize Tidus was specifically the Dream of the Bahamut Fayth (which is why he appears in Zanarkand at the very beginning), the Bahamut Fayth was a kid who idolized Shuyin back before everyone died.

I bought the FFX and X-2 on the vita and played almost all the way through FFX.
The game is a straight line up until the final boss where you can pick places on the map to teleport to.
I was so dissappointed when I found out I just stopped playing and never beat it at all.
It's well remembered solely because of grafix isn't it?

I like it better than FFX.
It embraces the dumb shit and has better gameplay.
