Gungeon recently had its final update.
What are Yea Forums's thoughts on this game I really liked it.
Gungeon recently had its final update
I remember playing the first version. What changed? is it faster and less RnG?
It has a turbo mode alit of new guns enemies synergies and new characters to play as.
New floors and balance changes.
Is the game still dull as fuck?
Doubt my opinion is going to change from when I played it on release. Technically very good in every individual aspect, but the pacing is so slow while not being particularly complex that that I just got bored and stopped playing it.
Enemies so spongey and levels so long and unchanging, it's monotonous.
rainbow runs are absolutely OP for unlocking anything including the 2 new characters, you can farm additional rainbow chests by going through the oubilette, rat lair and R&G Dept. and if you drop a clone then it's basically double that
It's fine. I wish rainbow runs didn't disable some side npcs like synergy lady. They just end up being rush the level as fast as possible which gets boring quick. The most interesting thing in gungeon are synergies and you wont get many on a rainbow run.
Poor man's Nuclear Throne.
"LE PRESS START TO PIXEL" aesthetic games need to all be purged
yes
Okay grandpa
>tfw there's no nuclear throne 2
Given their Twitter shenanigans, I doubt they're going to make anything of note ever again.
What did they do?
nuclear throne has way better art than gungeon
"you can play as le based blackman! AND le based gamer grill! XD
Rolling rolling
Did they fix the problem where most of the guns were garbage?
What about ammo being scarce thus forcing you to use the default gun in order to preserve it?
>get an insane run with clone on rainbow mode
>beat advanced dragun as well as get lead god
I still haven't unlocked the lich fight, rainbow mode is fucking broken
Just 100% it last week, enjoyed it a lot. Very mechanically satisfying
why buy and play a game you can just 100 percent and then throw away like it's a food item
RNG fest , not fun
Disavowed all their previous games as being in support of gun culture or something. Disavowed action games entirely. Disavowed challenge. List goes on.
I honestly don't give a fuck about the art of the game. Nuclear Throne felt way better in terms of gameplay and more reliant on actual skill.
It did fuck you in the ass with the procedural generation though.
Game's good after all the updates. In particular the DPS cap being raised means I actually feel strong with good guns now, but I'd still like an option to turn it off.
So they're not making any game anymore.
i haven
't played gungeon myself, but I always liked the pacing and tight controls of nucular throne, yeah the rng could sometimes be shit, but a reset would always be fast and it's easy to happen upon a "good run"
They are, but their new game Ultrabugs doesn't look good, remotely.
>Disavowed all their previous games as being in support of gun culture
Tell me you're lying.
please
>game with ten times more content is the poor man's version
that's not how it works buddy
I didn't say I stopped playing it, I still do because it's fun
>Enemies so spongey
This. It eliminates all classes except for Marine, and even then you're usually unloading half a mag into even the weakest enemies. Everything else has heat seeking missiles coming out of every pore, every boss is a bullet-hell slog, and you have to go through this for the first 3 stages before you can even consider trying to open chests.
lol imagine being so zogged that you start monitering your make-believe fun
If this is your actual opinion you should seek help
Quality over quantity.
i doubt it bucko, but just saying what you said is easier than actually doing it, if anything me saying that to you made you think, and you might probably play it more just to spite me, even though I will never actually know it, cool meme though makes you look hella sicc
More like, Nuclear 30fps.
Qualit over quantity.
Both games suck at quality, though
You have no fucking clue. You probably didn't even make it past chamber 1.
best rogue-lite around.
Yea Forums will disagree because they are bad though.
Do wish the new secret floor was more worth it though, that boss is pretty hard for the floor only giving you one item.
I think the rat boss is a cheating bitchass motherfucker
It makes sure sell creep is always on floor 4 though. That's always nice
Well I can't be arsed to find the specific tweets, since both of them have in excess of 40,000-80,000 of the fuckers, so maybe I am. I remember sitting through that whole debacle unwillingly, though.
Reminder that Rami Ismail is still 1/2 of Vlambeer and Nijman is his personal bitch.
thank you based modding community
>It eliminates all classes except for Marine
>this entire post
Pick up a gun and stop getting hit.
Get good, faggot.
Literally the worst one. Every other game is better - Nuclear Throne, Wizard of Legend, Risk of Rain, you name it.
I've done everything in it except kill 100 enemies from a minecart. Lots of fun and not that hard once you realised you should stand in place unless you absolutely need to move.
almost 50 hours in the game and haven't beaten it yet...
They fixed the ammo drops. You can still get fucked on rng and end up not getting ammo for a while, but it's less frequent. As for the guns, they added a lot of synergies that make most of the shittier guns useful, and turn some guns absolutely OP. It's a lot more fun than it was at launch.
You suck, I'm sorry to say.
You are right in that Marine is the best starting class, but you got that right purely by accident
Anyone else exclusively play Gunslinger and/or Rainbow Runs after the update?
I remember reading it was never meant to be like that.
How it worked was when you were lower on ammo, ammo then had a much higher chance of spawning. But since everyone was conserving their ammo and only using the starting weapons, they never saw ammo drops.
If thats true or not, either way they added another type of ammo drop too that gives you less, but for all your guns.
Absolutely not, bullet is unquestionably the best
Gunslinger sure makes things a ton more fun
Wrong. It's not the best but its up there. Nice try though.
How does that make any sense when the Hunter has a secondary weapon that kills most basic enemies in one or two shots for the first two floors? Have you even played this game?
I love playing Gunslinger. He is gloriously broken
>mfw lil bomber gives you infinite money
>starting
Bullet was dethroned as best too. Paradox too op. Gunslinger WAY too op.
I said starting classes. And bullet is overrated anyway. You're almost never going to be in a position where the sword is a better option than the guns you have by the time the game gets hard
I like it although I'm not a big fan of how the RNG can range from making runs absolute cake walks to cursed miserable experiences. Making your way through floor 1 each time is also tedious as you need that extra heart chamber.
> starting class
Bullet
Nah, Pilot is the best
>wizard of legend
>better
I'm still mad I let Yea Forums meme me into buying that game. It has like 1/10th the content of every other roguelite and manages to get stale ultrafast even with all the spells. I'm sad that combat system is stuck in that massive piece of shit.
Just play random runs. They're like ten times more fun than regular.
Gungeon has been getting better and better with each update, more fun than the last and eliminating a lot of the RNG bullshit
I'm sad to see it won't be getting anymore updates, but I hope they're working on a Gungeon 2
I bought it a week ago. The thing that bugs me the most is a lot of the loot you pick up doesn’t end up benefiting you in any way. If you get a shit gun, you’re just not going to use it over your other options. A roguelike should make me want to seek out chests, but in Gungeon I just feel I’m going to get another gun or active item I never use. Does it get better with unlocks?
Don't open blue/brown chests unless you have way too many keys or you really need a gun.
In my opinion the convict is the best class in the game.
You know you can shoot faster with the revolver if you click m1 repeatedly? The reload time is pretty fast too. The shotgun and revolver makes clearing rooms easy and fast in the first 2 floors.
these are the people who shit on games on Yea Forums
this is how good they are at videogames
>Lamey never
:(
eeeeeennnnter da gooooonjooooon
enter da gooooonjoooooon
I prefer playing as Robot with Rainbow Runs, honestly.
Every chest that you couldn't open is now a high chance of Junk, which gives a damage buff to him.
Plus, Battery Bullet's accuracy bonus is immense, and Robot has the best Starting Gun and you're guaranteed the Oubliette with his Coolant Leak.
Yeah, I learned that quickly, but I still think a roguelite that actively discourages you from getting loot is a failure on some level. The early game is already dull enough as is.
Not really? It's all about resource management. Unless you get absurdly lucky or get AKEY you're not opening every chest. So you have to prioritise
Also don't go crazy buying things. The specialist shops tend to have at least one godlike item for sale and you don't want to miss them
Game's idea was good and I would have had enjoyed it had you not needed to go through the absolutely slow and snooze inducing first two levels every run, they were so pathetically easy and slow that it just killed any enjoyment I get out of this game.
Daily reminder that if you don't do turbo runs + praying at the gunslinger statue at start, you're fucking pussy.
Not every run of a Rogue-lite is a sure-win.
Just look at Binding of Isaac, and how many times you have to reset to skip the first floors of mindless drivel.
You always have 1 key to start with in Gungeon, the shop always gives another and the boss drops on item on kill, and you can search for the secret room for more items.
Having 100% both games, I can say I get faaaaar more enjoyment out of Enter the Gungeon
Idk. I found the sawed off to be pretty useless compared to the crossbow. The hunter is probably my favorite character so far. I have the paradox, robot, and gunslinger. But I'm either blind or unlucky because it's taking forever to find five caped bulletkin.
Turbomode exists for people like you, user.
Cursing yourself at the start makes the first few floors even more of a terrible slog, especially the first since you have to pump every jammed enemy with a gorillion shots of your starting gun to kill them.
Enter the Gungeon and Binding of Issac were my favorite games to just mindlessly play while watching tv. Hopefully they both make sequels that are way better. Only things left for me to do in Gungeon is kill 100 enemies with the chandlier and while riding a minecart, which is annoying because you can only kill at most like 2 or 3 per run. In Issac, the last achievement/trophy is glitched, which is 100% everything and have a full monster book. I have everything but the monster book cannot be filled due to a glitch.
Don't forget that you get more money.
The game becoming more interesting as well.
I genuinely don't understand how people can dislike Enter the Gungeon.
>tfw the rat never became a real playable character.
Because Binding of Isaac is the same basic gameplay, but more fun and interesting.
Fuck it this is probably the only time I can ask. What the hell does the black chick's dog do anyway? Says he'll find treasure but what exactly? All I can do is pet him.
Sounds like a bs excuse, you were forced to go back to your default gun because youd never find ammo. The default gun is boring af too
When you hear him bark when you complete a room he starts digging up a random drop
Because people played it when it first came out, and never bothered with it again.
I agree, the first version of the game was atrocious.
It looked great, sounded great, felt great but it was so bullshit with the difficulty and RNG, and this was before Synergies existed to make shit guns great ones and before the game cared about your enjoyment
>more interesting
>Edmund finds a way to add more nonsense bosses and unfair rooms and enemies into the game, that you're paying for, whilst polluting the item table with total garbage with each expansion
>slow
>trillion hp enemies
I can't play this game because of that. And can't refund it because over 2 hours.
NT has perfect pacing.
You sound like a pussy who doesnt pray at the alter
>slow as fuck fights
>intereseting
might as well make it turn-based at this point
>"R" button simulator is more interesting and fun
Oookay.
He can dig up keys, ammo and hearts i think? Its a super low chance. The reason to play her is due to the crossbow honestly as it makes the first 2 levels a breeze
When you clear a room sometimes he digs up a pickup like a key or some shit, if you aren't paying attention to the animation you might just think it spawned on clear.
>slow
Except it isn't.
I have cleared the entire game hundreds of times and beat everything, but I cannot make it past the 3rd fight sequence of the Rat. I have never fully beat him.
That's the other thing, what's the point of her crossbow? I'll admit I have not used it at all.
It's ok, Rat is the hardest boss of the game. I'm already 250+ hours and have beaten him only once.
It's better than her starting pistol. It's meant to carry you for the first couple of floors
Literally the best starting weapon. Just reload him by click right after shoot, it will fire x2 times faster.
It oneshots bulletkin for the first two chambers.
The hardest enemy being halfway through the game and giving ridiculous rewards really fucks up the pacing when you get good. The entire rest of the run just feels like you're finishing an already winning run, there's not much tension.
>tfw you already know you won't get the master round
>Don't open blue/brown chests unless you have way too many keys or you really need a gun.
this is a shitter advice
everyone will tell you you're wrong but gungeon is genuinely boring as shit and i had the same experience
I had infinitely more fun with other roguelikes, just play nuclear throne
Is there a catch to this?
>implying NT is not
enjoy your 30 fps experience.
This, keep seething.
Brown chests contain the best guns in the game.
I played both, and I have more fun with Gungeon.
show your hours in this game please,it would be funny.
You nuclear throne cunts are like fucking vegans.
>Can consistently get Lead God on Turbo Mode
>Can usually beat the Lich without taking damage
I feel like I've beaten this game yet I haven't unlocked everything, it's infuriating.
>weakest enemies need only 3 hits on the first three floors
>half a mag
Seems like you have to reload your sight, good hunter.
>literally RNG to win
thank you for showing to us how shitter you are at videogames.
>not buying blanks if you are so bad at this game
your fault
Daily reminder that if you don't play with Jimmy, you're fucking pussy.
>Get to the rat
>Lose at punch-out and only get three keys
>With the items I have all chests are mimics, and all mimics are friendly
>Unlock all six items and get the rat transformation
Only time I've ever gotten so lucky.
>bullets coming from literally fucking nowhere right at you
Yeah, blanks really help holy fuck.
Just wait a year or two until we have proper modding tools.
You're a pussy if you aren't constantly doing turbo, blessed, double challenge, full curse runs as the pilot.
don't be such a zoomer
Nigga they have patterns. How retarded are you exactly.
It's the most bullshit boss and the most bullshit attack but i think he appears less often than the other two hollow bosses. Your best bet is to stand somewhere near the edge of the room.
You're a fucking pussy if you pick up a single item and don't get through the entire game on turbo, full curse, no hit with only pilot's starter pistol.
Anyone here ever got all of the Gunknight items without cheating?
>pilot
>not robot
Playing easy mode, huh?
Robot is powerful as fuck.
>robot
>not easy mode
Pilot has objectively the worst starter.
Glass cannon.
Maybe if he had 1 shield but he has the same amount of starting health as every character PLUS every time you get hit it activates a free blank. Shields aren't as rare anymore either.
since the game no longer starves you for resources, it is actually tolerable to play
I don't understand FPS autism. I have never played a game locked to 30FPS that I went "Man, this game is really fun, but this 30FPS is a dealbreaker"
After playing as the gunslinger i cannot play as the others, he is too much fun and broken as hell
It's just a meme. No one really take it serious.
Some games aren't good enough to wanna put up with playing at 30.
I like the souls games enough that I played them at 30, but Days Gone wasn't good enough to justify a buy from me because it had 30. That was the tipping point for me.
Pilot has a 50-50 chance of opening any chest.
Any hope of Binding of Issac and Enter the Gungeon sequels?
Isaac 2 is 100% going to happen one day, gungeon sequel is unlikely.
I remember dropping the shit out of Gungeon on release, but AG&G elevated the fuck out of the game and Farewell to Arms is based incarnate
If you shit on the game because you dropped it back in the day, that was 100% valid, but absolutely try it again with all the new shit and abstract from your previous bias, it's fun and good. Definitely the top roguelite for me now.
God I hate that rat
Punch him to death. Then feed the small dragon his corpse.
Have sex
I can't beat his second phase, user
I'm so bad at Punch-out
nope. still has bullet sponge bosses.
In his second phase you can destroy the two weapons on top of his mech and he won't do the rockets/crosshair attacks anymore. During the little robots attack you can just dodge roll back and forth to kill them without being hurt, since they only have 1 hp iirc.
If you play as the bullet it's easier to beat him at punch out, since every time you use your super attack he will instantly counter it with a basic punch which you can time to get another super and basically chain that through the entire battle.
The mech phase is simple enough, but the Punchout phase doesn't have enough animation for me to read him right
I can't do timing either, I react faster than I think and either dodge too quick or miss star opportunity
Have you tried using your other guns?
I've played for over 300 hours and maybe 450 deaths and I've gotten to hell maybe three times and fought the dragun once. How the duck do I get good? How do I unlock new characters? How do I unlock the secret level after the abbey?
Can you play it without a guide?
How do I get gud?
>how do i unlock new characters
if you see caped bullet kin don't kill them, also carry the broken tv to the blacksmith in the forge
>how do i unlock the secret level after the abbey
if you mean the rat level then a trapdoor appears somewhere in the mine and you have to "clean" it up by walking over it for a few seconds, then you need a key and two blanks. and the gnawed key which is purchasable on floor 2.
>how do i get good?
analyze every enemy's attacks and eventually you'll be able to predict what they will do next
I sucked at first as well but over time i started playing more defensively and despite constantly dying to the clock i learned his movements pretty well and got better at it, after like 20 tries i managed to flawless him.
Granted i havent played for a while but the version i played was boring as fuck
>Shit music
>Slow pacing
>Terrible guns that all feel like pea shooters and lack any feel of impact
>Bullet sponge everything
>Gear is utter garbage and total lack of synergies
I did a few runs and killed the dragon thing but it was one of the most tedious roguelikes ive ever played.
>total lack of synergies
you clearly haven't played this game in a long while
>Play Robot
>Rainbow mode
I loved playing Isaac but Gungeon toppled it as my favorite whatever the fuck genre you'd call it.
I have kind of a thing for robots...
>Well I can't be arsed to find the specific tweets
So you just fuckin lied then, right?
I managed to get clone 3 times in a row on a rainbow run as the gunslinger, was very fun and i had like 6k coins.
>entire game is better!
>nope minor retard gripe remains
stay cucked
Amidst all the gunfire I could never really hear the dual Lich theme well.
Holy shit it goes hard
Is that Y.V. rapping?
Disappoints me that the gunslinger's past was so clearly phoned in.
I imagine they had something a lot cooler planned.
I honestly wish they took a few more months to make the final fight better. I wish it had 3 phases like before and even perhaps a fourth phase. I don't care if it would be mega difficult, it's the last boss of the entire game, it should be insane in difficulty by nature.
Grabbed this game after sinking 600 hours into BoI and I'm just so confused. I feel like I'm missing 80% of the game not knowing how to find secret rooms or which items are good. Also I use the default gun most of the time because I'm anxious about wasting ammo. Are there any useful guides or should I just git gud? Currently I'm having more fun in Nuclear Throne to be honest.
robot is top tier. Good tasre
No it’s probably one of the best couch co op games since Kirby superstars I’m actually enthralled at how much work the devs put into Gungeon to make it both slick and accessible for all players
The game has many anti-startergun mechanics coded in it. For example if you keep using the starter gun, you will get way less ammo drops. Stick to using any weapons you find and you will see that ammo is pretty common.
I think the dude who did the Y.V's Mansion rap is the one doing that, so yeah I'd say so.
Imagine if the Gunslinger had to fight Kaliber, or the Gungeon itself!
I know this update was just throwing some shit in for a quick finale but it'd be neat to see a more rad final boss.
That's the first time I'm hearing this.
I can understand why but it also conflicts with the idea of resource management.
Also not sure how true that is since it's entirely possible to spam your other guns with ballot in hand and still not find ammo.
In the end it's all RNG so you might get bad luck with it, but ammo drops are more common when you have at least one non-starter weapon that doesn't have full ammo.
Hated it. The idea was perfect, the art was great, there was just no way it could go wrong, but they managed to do it. The game is slow as fuck, every enemy is a bullet sponge, honestly jut fuck this game, it manages to make me angry over how awful the decision making was
It can be fun but it's too RNG focused for me to enjoy for long. I love roguelites so even with that I still played it for a decent amount of time. If you like bullet hells you can prob find more enjoyment of it than me.
It's certainly not as bad as BoI at least.
I can say that of all the roguelites EtG is the less RNG-infected. At least, it doesn't have insta-damage rooms like in Isaac.
Why can't I git gud at this game?
It took me for about 70 hours to defeat the Dragun, so it's ok.
Did you hit the "make the game go faster" button?
The enemies are only bullet sponges if you fucked up your build and didn't increase your damage at all during the entire run.
> EtG
> shit music
What the fuck.
But he's right. There's not a single memorable track ingame besides of Forge theme.
You might as well look up the secrets online. Most of them are things you'd never think to try in the regular game, like Giving the Sell Creep in the floor cage one of the Chamber items you get from killing a boss without getting hit, and then 2 other random items but ONLY if he appears outside of a shop, to unlock a secret floor.
I dont remember much of the OST but I remember that the intro sounded like some dance music for 12 year old elemntary school disco
How hard are the new bosses?
Oubliette has a great track though.
Name at least one track that you can listen outside of game.
>Poor man's Nuclear Throne
That would be implying NT's most poor aspect is its shit tier development and coding. The fact that the developers had to pay another person to fix their shit coding and then some more. EtG was stable and consistent its entire life. Personally, I love both but saying that EtG is "the poor man's NT" is retarded considering how shitty its development was.
This user is retarded. Do not fall for his lies and slander.
I used to be not into the game when it first came out with the ridiculous damage cap on bosses and the total lack of keys/ammo/etc you get from drops at any point
but after all the updates the game has literally only improved especially with synergies holy FUCK those are all so cool
>Oubilette
>Office
>Hulk
>Punch-out
>Abbey
>Theme song
Both the main and alternate tracks for each of those.
>its final update.
So that's it? No more for the game?
ETG is def not the least RNG roguelite. I'd say it's in the upper half on RNG heavy roguelites.
>fucked up your build
Fucking what
That's not really up to the player at all.
what's your scale out of the games you've played
You can consistently clear the game until Dragun, no matter how unlucky you are.
Bullet Hell and Lich depend on your gear, though
If you're good enough you can clear the game with your starting weapon. RNG only speeds you up.
From most to least
>Tower of Guns
>Dead Cells
>Synthetik
>Ziggurat
>Hades
>Nuclear Throne
>Immortal Redneck
>Wizard of Legend
>ETG
>BoI
Might be able to add more or refine this if I spent more time thinking about it. Some of these I havn't played in a long time so my memory might not be perfect. Also obviously I have not played every roguelite.
Yeah but killing things faster means you have less chance to make mistakes. But more than that, it's basically RNG to have fun. RNG is inherent in roguelites, but if you get bad RNG in Dead Cells or Synthetik I'm still having a good time. Bad RNG in ETG means a long boring slog.
That doesn't make it the least RNG
based and schizo-pilled
