Making a overworld with the technology of today will have the expectation that it's not just a fuckhuge version of you walking with tiny monopoly sized versions of towns, but a fully fleshed out environment, which is a fuckton lot of work already, not even putting the towns themselves into the argument. Even Persona got rid of random encounters early on, with interactable enemies you can fight or avoid which SE says will be a way for you to use the environment to better strategize how you take enemies down and there will be character focused contextual bits in fights according to Nomura from an interview not too long ago. Plus people did say they want to be able to fight with the characters just like it was Advent Children, and while some just meant graphical touch ups, there were others including me, that thought a more action oriented evolution that let your party be more than just drones, and let them team up with attacks would be cool. Problem is, there are plenty of idiots who think everyone wants the same thing instead of varying opinions. Which is kind of like how every future FF discussion goes. Saying this as a 35 year old dude who played 4-15. Adding new dimensions to battles is something they always do. I like them trying to work new ideas into FFs.
