Act 1 is fun but uneven and amateurish. It's also really weird for Megaman to allow all the remaining Sniper Joes to kill the gathered crowd. Act 2 is better polished, has a better grasp on its characters, has a clearer progression from the beginning to the end of the album, and so on.

>but uneven and amateurish
Explain

>It's also really weird for Megaman to allow all the remaining Sniper Joes to kill the gathered crowd
No it's not, it's just classic tragic irony. Mega Man believed in saving the people of the city primarily because it was his dead brother's wish and his dad was too broken inside to do anything about it. Being forced to kill his brother is what made him give up on humans despite the fact that Proto Man seemingly regained his hope they could change in his dying moments

>Act 2 is better polished
To great detriment imo. I love how messy Act 1 sounds and I think it proves the Protomen's original assertion that you don't have to follow every studio rule and make sure your music sounds completely clean for it to be good

>has a better grasp on its characters
Not sure how

>clearer progression from beginning to end
Factually untrue, the only thing that breaks up Act 1 is Funeral For a Son. Everything else is one concise, cohesive story

I think Act 1 being unpolished and Act 2 being polished is good, because both albums reflect the state of the city. In Act 2, the city is vibrant, alive, and the music is clean. In Act 1 the city is dead, controlled by Wily, the people too afraid to grasp for any semblance of fire left, with only underground rebels still truly living. And so the music is scratchy, unpolished, raw.

And it shows in the two Act 3 songs produced too, Hold Back the Night and This City Made Us are desperate, frantic, coupled with different elements. This City Made Us blends human voice into synth robot voice, emphasizing the desperate bling to life the city remains, all of it. And Hold Back The Night is filled with a chorus of ghosts, people who have accepted their deaths and possess no hope of survival, save for the girl and Light.

Can't disagree with that assessment. Act 3 in full is a giant never ever though, fuck

Unfortunately, that's true. God I want more songs, two is not enough.

They were both good, but Act 2 was more experimental and story-heavy when Act 1 was competing for tone with the likes of The Megas and the billion other rock/metal videogame bands and producers of the time, all flinging out the same generic 2006 tonedeaf screaming with a royalty-free beat.

I do agree that Act 1 is significantly better. Or at least more to my tastes.

hey fuck you my good buddy I really enjoyed Act 2.

This. Act 2 is great but 1 is fucking phenomenal.

Hope rides alone

Act 3 when?
oh...

>tfw people have died waiting for act 3

>this city made is us is probably the coolest song they have

its upsetting
we could have a whole album of it

why isn't act 3 happening?
I thought they had it in production or something?

It's just in development hell and only the band knows what's going on. Nothing we can do but continue to ask about Act 3 and hope the Protomen come up with something soon.

I personally liked Act 2 for the music styles, but it does suffer from 'filler'.
I believe that Give Us The Rope and the next song could've been shorter, and merged into one song.
Act 1 was noisier, and not really what I like, but there doesn't seem to be any filler.

Although the best songs IMO are still in Act 2.

There are no heroes left in man.

yeah. Act 2 just has to many songs you can rip out at karaoke night whereas Act 1 has only 1 or two and they don't fit with singing out loud.

I agree with Give Us The Rope being too long, but How the World Fell Under Darkness has a lot to do. It has to transition from the sound of the first half of the album to the sound of the second one, introduce the heartbeat motif, bunch of other stuff. If they were combined into one song, that might have worked, but I think it's like The Fall where lots of buildup is needed for the "deflation" to matter at all.

Yeah, I guess you're right there.
How the World Fell Under Darkness did have a lot to do, and unlike Give Us the Rope, didn't really feel too long but did effectively transition from the first half into the second half.

In the end, doesn't matter which album is better
Because Act 3 never ever

Keep Quiet is their best track and if you disagree you don't know jack shit about video games

There really isn't any filler in Act 2, unless you want to count The Cover Up as the songs Joe was listening to before he did Breaking Out.

>The Good Doctor:
Dr. Light and Wily establish themselves and their goal, build the sniper robot
>The Father of Death
Light has an epiphany, wanting to stop Wily. Wily tries to get Emily to leave with him, fails and has the sniper robot kill her. Light is framed for the killing and goes on the run
>The Hounds
Wily riles up the press to Light's supposed murder of Emily, shows he's got the city in the palm of his hand
>The State Vs. Thomas Light
Light's trial, where he blames himself for Emily's death and loses hope. Light is found not guilty, however
>Give Us The Rope
Light is given police escort out of the city while a mob clamors for his execution instead. This shows the people have submitted to Wily's rule
>How The World Fell Under Darkness
Timelapse of Light leaving the city and the city becoming ever more reliant over the years on Wily's security and control.
>Breaking Out
Establishes Joe, disenfranchised with the undeath-like state of the city and decides to leave it for greener pastures
>Keep Quiet
Joe encounters the sniper robot, who silences dissidents. He defeats it and Light, who has returned, kills it
>Light Up The Night
Light and Joe go over their plan to destroy Wily's control over the city
>The Fall
Joe enacts the plan, and dies in the process. Light realizes too late that Wily anticipated this and will use it as an excuse for martial law, meaning Joe died for nothing
>Here Comes The Arm
Light falls into despair, preparing to accept his death. He reads Emily's letter and is inspired to keep fighting, taking Joe's helmet to build Proto Man with. Wily now has absolute control over the city, and Act 1 is established

It all seems pretty necessary to me to tell the story.

I disagree.
Light up the Night is better because of Karaoke.

You're absolutely a man of culture, but I'm more of a Breaking Out fan.

Mother 1

this is a protomen thread silly anonymous.

act 2 is great you faggot shut up

The Megas: Get Equipped and Megatainment.

I've never seen anyone talk about Megatainment. History Repeating: Red is fucking stellar though.

S C E N T
B L A S T E R S

True, but Look What You’ve Done is still a personal favorite of mine.

god-tier taste, especially the latter half of the song

Of course. It leading into the credits theme of Mega Man 1 and the intro the Mega Man 2 was perfect.

I personally like "I am not the breakman"

Well the guy who does the lyrics for wily is in jail for statutory rape so...

>Protomen finish tour
>Ok they're going into the studio to record right?
>New set of tour dates released
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Can't Stop the Top is my recent favorite.

That's not how you spell The Fall

TURBO LOVER NO

what was the deal with geminiman?
I've never played the games but what is gemini man?
Is he a doppelganger or something?

He's a robot master with the ability to create holographic clones of himself.

Also great choices.

yeah there's no source on that.

max payne with 3 and silent hill with 2
both sequels are still good though

What's this?

He’s talking to himself throughout the song, just like Diavolo and Doppio. Gemini and Gemineye were the same person, so he shot himself when he said he’d take the rat out himself.

Wait, are there people out there who seriously rate 3 over the first two games? How?

The witcher 1

why did he kill himself though?

Despite all the other cool songs though, History Repeating is still my favorite Megas song. Both the Red and Blue halves.

yes, probably a majority from what I've seen.
>How?
I don't think they really value freedom in gameplay as much as they would like to think. whenever I've pointed out how much MP3 limits your options even when completely disregarding the cutscenes issue then I get crickets, but up until that point they are usually pretty vehement about how MP3 has by far the best gameplay.
I don't post too much in MP threads anymore because it just becomes a tedious repeat of events.

Silent hill 1 isnt good though.

He thought he was shooting Gemineye, who trapped them in a room together so they could kill Mega Man and not have to run from him. Gemini, feeling as if he was betrayed, shoots Gemineye.

I think you could argue that both albums are kind of amateurish in a way.
It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I think that it's more apparent with the cleaner production of Act 2.
I just think it adds to the charm though. Makes it feel like a passion project instead of a packaged product.

I fucking love Keep Quiet, but I gotta go with Vengeance my man.

you're right, it's fucking great.
>puzzles are reasonable, but not insultingly easy
>atmosphere is top tier
>game gives a decent amount of exploration comparatively
>ost is brilliant
>it has sewer levels that don't make you want to kill yourself
>it has great details like harry stumbling to the ground when aiming and backing up down stairs
>multiple endings and what can basically be considered side quests like saving the doc
>relies very little on jump scares (there's maybe a handful at most)

Animal Crossing GameCube and every game that came after

Correct.

Witcher

Even here it is not safe

The transition from The WIll of One to Vengeance makes my dick rock hard.
WE HAVE CONTROL
WE KEEP YOU SAFE
WE ARE YOUR HOPE
WE ARE IN CON TROL

Mass effect

Same.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

Sons of fate is the best track!

>Not Will of One or Sons of Fate
lmfao

Those are good too.

That's not Breaking Out

Keep Quiet blows Breaking Out the fuck out imo

>see Protomen in LA
>Make-Up and Vanity did a killer fucking warm up
>Kilroy makes a joke about us having the force of a thousand raging wild fires
>great energy from every band member on stage
>crowd really getting into it
>still no Act 3
I'd have killed to have gotten Sons of Fate, but Vengeance was as good live as I imagined it. Definitely see 'em live guys if you ever get the chance.

I blame the Wily singer situation, guy got fired form the band for being a total dickhead. I mean, fitting for playing Wily (and he was my favourite part of Act 2), but unfitting for being in a band.

>tfw in Europp
Man. I would love to see Vengeance. It is that one song that I put on when I need to get pumped for something.

Borderlands.
Resident evil.
Well actually now that i think about it, OP's post applies to almost 80% of games with sequels

Attached: IMG_20190420_162055.jpg (612x338, 35K)

I listen to too much EDM and it's so fucking weird to have these geeks go by "tradishunal rock aynd rull names"

Nah, man. Usually it is the other way around. Teh first game is a proof of concept, one of the sequels is the realisation of the game's true potential. Megaman to Megaman 2 (though Megaman 3 and 4 are both better respectively), Zelda and ALttP, Gothic and Gothic 2, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, etc.

Presentation is everything, user, and that includes stage names. Just a little bit can bring shit up a notch.

That does remind me I need to start checking out EDM shows in my area. Protomen had a great fucking crowd, but I've been to too many synthwave shows where the crowd is just fucking dead despite the music punching you in chest like a vibrating freight train.

The Hounds is the patrician choice
