If not a game like Destroy All Monsters Melee with a bigger roster and more defined mechanics, then an arcadey game where you must either smash as much of a city as possible within a time limit or prevent as much destruction as possible by defeating an enemy monster.

Alternatively, if you want to go both experimental and mainstream at the same time, asymmetrical multiplayer. Imagine Dead By Daylight but the team is human defenses and the solo player is a kaiju. Human players use a combination of RTS and TPS gameplay (TPS parts similar to EDF) to converge on the monster to help prevent destruction. Killing it would be near-impossible, but stalling long enough for reinforcements or sending it back to the place it came from works. Humans can also build up a meter that lets them summon a Mechagodzilla or similar robot kaiju that can actually full-on defeat the enemy player.

Smaller scale scenes like that have a special flair to them, seeing individual people’s pov. 2014 had a few good ones, like when the first muto wakes up and pulls down some cranes. The main guy has to watch a trapped worker get dragged into the ocean

Shin Godzilla isn't a movie for everyone and if you're new to the series I probably wouldn't go for it since you might not get engaged with the back and forth between the human characters. There's about 10 minutes of Godzilla in the movie but they're excellent scenes

Shin is its own thing. It was an attempt to do a modern version of 1954, making Godzilla into this chilling, horrifying embodiment of nuclear threats. The other half the movie is a big statement on the excessive bureaucracy in modern Japan; they basically spend so much time with people talking because that's how long it would take for them to take action even if a giant fucking monster starting glassing cities.

Two suggestions from each era:
Godzilla 1954 is a must.
Mothra vs Godzilla (1962)
Godzilla ‘84
Godzilla vs Biollante.

The movie didn't nerf him, superman as a character is flawed because he's near immortal barring a type of mineral the grows on his home planet, bat happens to get a shit load of kryptonite and basically wrap all his armor and weapons in it

Shin is pretty good, but you've really got to be in the mood for that one. It's about 80 percent talking, 5 percent hokey effects, and 15 percent genuinely well done Godzilla action. Really helps if you're a fan of Evangelion too, because it's got the same writer/director, and he bites a lot of his style from that. If '14 put you to sleep, you're probably going to hate this one though.

Unpopular opinion: I like the more horror based Godzilla movies than "Godzilla vs monster of the movie" format. I will say Destroyah is scary enough to be fit in the former rather than the latter.

Most of them are at least entertaining, but many are pretty samey by the time you've watched a few of them.

If you want more standard kaiju:

>54 (it's the first one, watch it)
>Vs Biollante (the plot tries to do way too many things at the same time but it's fucking weird and I love it)
>Vs Destoroyah (this one is fucking great, very impressive production values, has some really amazing scenes)
>Final Wars (wacky as shit, probably the craziest movie I've ever seen, it's just all over the fucking place. Basically so bad it's good.)
>Any with Mechagodzilla or Ghidorah, particularly the later ones

If you want less convential stuff:

Well answering that would be a spoiler, but yeah, there's a reason why it looks that way, it's a very different interpretation of Ghidorah but personally I loved it. I wish more kaiju movies were willing to change things up like that. In case you don't know, the writer of the trilogy is Gen Urobuchi, who seems to get massive boners for subverting expectations, which I guess it's why so many people that wanted standard kaiju hated those movies.

No, Godzilla wasn’t made up of people the whole time. He was an adaptive colony of microorganisms that were changing form as they needed to in order to dominate the environment. You can't go wrong with the original Godzilla. A dark monster with scales reminiscent of mountain crags, like the earth itself come to life and unleashing the cruelty of the elements. It had that perfect look of being formidable while also warped and misshapen by radiation, the atomic breath was actual breath instead of an outright laser, and it had no coexistence with the world at all. It wrecked Tokyo for territory and because it was bored, and possibly eating people. It was a monster from an ancient time that ended due to a cataclysmic event and was itself a cataclysm, with a third needed to destroy it for good. Also, in a sense a land of Eastern dragons had to experience a Western dragon.

It also helps that Godzilla 1954 is easily the best Godzilla movie, actually building to the monster, emphasizing the horror and loss of life, and having the closest thing to developed, compelling characters in any of the Godzilla movies.
