When are we getting an updated Sonic collection for consoles in the vein of what we're getting from MegaMan, Street Fighter, and now Castlevania?

On that same note, does SEGA have some sort of issue with the idea of treating Taxman's versions of these games as the definitive versions? Do the SEGA Ages versions of Sonics 1 and 2 hold a candle to Taxman's versions?

Sonic 3 & Knuckles will NEVER EVER.

We're getting a genesis mini instead and they wont even be able to put Sonic 3 on it.

God damn the idea of S3&K running on Mania's engine is just insane to me. That would truly be a game that'd be hard to top.

The lack of S3&K in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection prevented me from caring. It has Sonic 3 and it has Sonic & Knuckles but who cares about playing them separately. I ain't buying an "Ultimate Genesis Collection" without the ultimate Genesis game.

Where do you have to ask to get an official answer about why the remasters are stuck on mobile?

I guess you'd either need a journalist to ask him during an interview or a fan to ask him at a convention.

So, does this Evening Star thing mean that they're moving on from Sonic games?

Attached: ESLogo-FullAlpha.png (800x444, 288K)

"Him," being Takashi Iizuka, of course.

Putting the remasters on consoles seems like an absolute no-brainer for both sales as well as good press. I know they fucking appreciated Sonic Mania Plus being the highest rated Sonic game in more than 20 years, so why not give the chance for the remasters to get those numbers as well?

Is it true that mega collection had a pc version? I couldnt find it anywhere.

Most likely, they're going to have some other projects to pay the bills but I'm sure they've still got connections at SEGA.

Yes, but for what purpose?

Because there's no way in fuck hell the classic games will sell that much.

What do they have to lose? For something that'd be no-effort ports, ANY sales would lead to profit.

They're already selling emulated versions on switch. Most adult fans will pass on those, but if it were the remasters they'd be all over it.

I just prefer the whole experience over just emulators.

Isn't that basically what the Sega Ages port of Sonic 1 on the Switch is?

Looking at a few videos, no. It's just an emulator with a fancy menu and the usual options.

>Sega will never be able to port Sonic 3 / and or Knuckles ever again because of the MJ thing
IT WAS A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD TO KNOW THE TRUTH. IT WASN'T WORTH IT.

Also the only thing stopping Sega from porting them is Sony, as they own MJs shit. Based Sony as always. #4thegaymers.

Thank god for emulation

As an adult I prefer that originals. They fucked up the physics for Sonic CD.

Sonic 2 isn't out yet, but the M2 version of 1 on SEGA Ages is probably second only to the mobile version. It has both the Drop Dash and Spin Dash and it's pretty faithful to the original game, but that can be seen as a negative if you've played a good amount of Mania like myself

Doesn't it also have the spindash and drop dash? It says that it has the drop dash on the store page. It's a romhack at the very minimum.

It also gives Sonic the Spin Dash

Yep, you have access to both in it

Do we know if it gives Tails his Sonic 3 flight or the ability to airlift Sonic in single player?

The 3DS version also had the spin dash and I know those are emulated. You can extract the roms from the cia.

Not yet, but they've implied they'll include some of the cut stages in it

I'd rather have an updated Sonic Jam 2 with everything from the genesis to the 32x with an updated Sonic World.

All Sega collection versions are bad except the 3DS ports because it's done by M2

If you want to play genesis games just get a Wii plus Genesis GX

3D Afterburner II is one of the best games I've ever played. All that extra content, perfect use of 3D, new campaign has new mechanics. The more I think about it and go back to it I can't even decide between it and the console version of Climax. They're both so damn good in their own ways.

I wish more people gave a fuck about Afterburner like I did.

>All Sega collection versions are bad
What's wrong with them?

>Sega will never be able to port Sonic 3 / and or Knuckles ever again because of the MJ thing
Sauce on that? Because I don't think his estate cares.

We're getting Sega Ages G-Loc: Air Battle, which is basically apart of the Afterbuner series.

Assuming its got the instashield and dropdash yeah it would be the GOAT with nothing topping it imo.

G-Loc was ported to SEGA CD as Afterburner III so I'm very cautiously optimistic there. They weren't great games and I don't like that they're in the cockpit over the traditional Afterburner camera but we'll see. If they put in the CD ABIII OST then it's on the right path, that definitely has some of the best versions of Afterburner music.

After this just put the 3DS ABII remaster on Switch with all its bells and whistles and put Climax on modern systems/PC. Climax 2/AB6 is too much to ask for, I know.

Still don't see how this proves they're done with Sonic. People need to stop being so worried all the time.

the most disappointed ive been with sonic as a franchise is when I booted up the generations port and found they'd removed the sonic 1 minigame

You'll never get a real answer. My guess is they don't want to sell them because of their Genesis emulator stuff they put out on consoles. Sonic is probably a decent reason for people to buy them and selling the remasters would fuck that up a bit.

>Name their studio after a Sonic song
>people actually think they aren't making Sonic games anymore

This, them being their own studio actually means they could do a new Classic style game and it just be under that name, like a separate studio SEGA just contracts like Sumo Digital, Sanzaru, or Dimps
Which port is this? Even the PS Now port has it

AIR is good enough for now.
Don't @ me with stupid bugs

The PC port doesn't have the Sonic 1 minigame, which doesn't matter, if you are on a PC you can download a much better emulator and a S1 Rom.

Also, Iizuka said in a recent interview that Mania was a vital turning point for the franchise after it's rough patch from 2013-2017 and that he was really happy with how it all turned out. And funnily enough, he also said that new sonic titles were in development in that same interview.
Yeah I said titles, not title. I really hope this means he stealth confirmed a new classic game.
I also wanna mention that Evening Star is set up in the same place as the new Sonic Pillar Team, Los Angeles.

Attached: 1557362040783.jpg (3983x1905, 710K)

If SEGA doesn't pay them "billions" for an original 2D title, after Mania's sucess, they are borderline retarded.

But then again, they might go full retarded again a make a Lost World style reboot again.

>Knuckles Chaotix
That's why I didn't recognize it.

I hope so, we really gotta stop playing it safe and just make new shit again. Mania was fantastic but the forced nostalgia pandering really holds back its true potential at the same time.
Please, just let Sonic be fresh again, Sega. Just please give us something fully new so we can finally call it the Real Sonic 4.

Attached: DcXrPSrW0AAdutz.jpg (640x480, 68K)

Ah, I see. I've got it on DS and Switch so I'm set
Here's hoping those games are good. I love me some Sonic, and even more if the game is good

Hope so too, bro. At least we have TSR and CTR to fill the gap of new games for now.
Yeah I said both, cause those warposters are stupid.

Has anyone ever tried putting out a remake of Sonic 1 that improves its awful level design?

Sonic 3 is ruled out from being re-released at this point due to being excluded from Mega Drive Classics and the Mega Drive Mini. Sonic Mania was meant to be a collection with Taxman's Sonic 1 and 2 but it was turned into a "new" game so that's pretty much the new Sonic Collection right there.

Here's a download: mega.nz/#F!IZAFxYxC!hbFXvRPLNFNnDuor0ryzzQ
If you're using a gamepad you'll need JoyToKey.

Amen to that. I'm hoping to pick up both and waste my entire summer on them too.

I wouldn't call it awful, but there is a hack that tries to simplify it more if that's what you want I guess.

Did they announce more games for the Mini, or at least confirm that Sonic 3 wasn't getting in it? Source!

That's the spirit

Attached: 1557495692378.jpg (279x229, 7K)

Check the website for the games, and when AtGames was developing they confirmed Sonic 3 wasn't getting in due to the music. polygon.com/2018/4/13/17237000/sega-mega-drive-mini-classic-edition
M2 is developing it now but it's unlikely that changes Sonic 3's chances.

Well it does look like it improves the level design of the levels after Green Hill Zone a bit so that is nice. I just don't like that wall mounting and jumping though. Pretty decent looking hack here.

why hasn't digital distribution kill shitty retro game collections?

remember, the taxman already ported sonic 3 to his engine, sega is just to cheap to pay the Jackson estate royalties

Fuck no. Im tired of these shitty old side scrollers from the 90s. Only a virgin could play sonic 1/2/3 forever. Do a 3D collection

Maybe I want everything, dick

I love the Classics but if they did an Adventure/Adventure 2/Heroes collection and/or an Unleashed/Colors/Generations bundle I would be on that shit day one, and probably preorder too

>That stage 3 green hill zone theme
Wow this is awful

the only thing we know of that was written by MJ was the ending theme of sonic 3. the real problem seems to be brad buxer

Attached: 1533522930648.png (390x307, 213K)

Yeah, kinda wish it left the music alone

Shit would be supreme

>finished marathoning the classics and mania
>broke out the dreamcast to do Adventure
This is a nice way to wait for new games.

I sold mine to gamestop like 2 years after I bought it

It’s not that they have an issue with treating those as the definitive versions. It’s that when ever they start to do poets and emulation via M2, that’s another division starting from scratch. M2 doesn’t have access to the remakes, and even the Switch and 3DS versions of the game don’t have anything to do with each other. They take the base game, and they emulate it, because that’s what they’re paid to do by Sega along with multiple other games. They aren’t going to use Taxman’s iPhone port for Sonic and deal with the original material for everything else, M2 works with emulation not remakes

If that's the case, they should release Taxman's remakes as a HD or DX version to be separate. That way you can have the new versions and keep the genesis version for purists.

Sure, but that’s something you have to convince the higher ups of and for now they don’t want those things off of phones. Iizuka, M2, etc. green light this stuff to get those games out there in some fashion, but their superiors don’t want the remakes outside of the mobile ecosystem

Man, why does Sega of Japan gotta be such dense motherfuckers

This was a nice thread, goodnight

All we saw of his proof of concept was Angel Island Act 1 and Blue Spheres, both of which ended up in Mania.

Apparently people found leftovers of the sonic 3 pitch build in Mania's data, such as sonic 3 sprites and even the level maps of AIZ act 1 and 2 after Plus came out. So I wouldn't be surprised if Mania was just built on the remnants of that build.
