I just dug it out of my basement so I could have a DVD player for my bedroom tv (it's a small one with no HDMI hookups so) and upon putting a DVD in I realized the stupid fucking thing can't read DVDs.
Who would pay money for this when the PS3 was out and had BluRay and the fucking retards over at Nintendo couldn't even be assed to put a DVD player in the fucking thing.
I mean I can understand it not having bluray or HD DVD or whatever but come on. This is just Nintendo being cheap and/or lazy.

Nongamers bought it because muh Wii Sports, then from 2008 on it was pretty much just a Smash machine with a few forward ports of Gamecube games.

Even the games had last gen graphics, everything about the console was a downgrade compared to other consoles.
Besides, at the time BluRay players were retardedly expensive so it made more sense to go out and buy a PS3 because you get a BluRay player built in. If I'm paying $500 for something I want it to have as much shit they can fit into it.

And you know what? The overwhelming majority of the people who bought the thing didn't care about the graphics or, more often, didn't have enough of a frame reference to compare the graphics to. To Grandma in the nursing home, Wii Sports and Wii Golf were the absolute bee's knees. Nintendo wasn't courting the hardcore gamer with this thing.

You can mod it in like an hour. You can get nes, Sega, SNES, gamecube all free and working 100%. You can use gamecube controllers. It's way better than playing on your PC if you have people over
