The gap between HW and SB is greatly exaggerated. The story and characters were overall worse in SB it's true, but Zenos was a better villain than thordan. He had a constant intimidating presence and his character was properly developed over the course of the story leading to a perfect climax. Thordan had a cool fight but that's basically it, he was just a scheming bad guy until he turned into a cool armor dude and sad "actually I oppose both light and darkness" making him seem more nuanced than he actually was. The 24 mans in SB were better than the HW ones and are far and away the best we've gotten so far. The 8 man raids were also better than alexander in terms of overall polish and presentation.

At the end he loses to us and kills himself only to be denied the satisfaction of dying after defeat. Now all he want's is to get his body back to fight us again at an even stronger point. How is that not a proper development for his character? And it took the entire expansion too so you are talking out of your ass.

NIN is anything but a good prog DPS when it comes to recovering from deaths. Dying fucks you over incredibly hard on NIN, you become downright worthless for the next minute.
Good prog melee are SAM and DRG, they both only lose very little for dying and can get right back up and continue fucking shit up with basically no downtime.

Monk is honestly the hardest dps to play well.

It's not about deaths, it's about predictability. For the most part you don't need to know the fight on NIN to recover if unexpected or unplanned downtime fucks you over, the same isn't true for monk. Even if you're forced off the boss after using Trick you're still at least gaining some rDPS from it.

DRG yes, SAM no. The only thing SAM brings to a raid is high damage; if they die, their entire effectiveness is reduced by 15%, compared to a NIN who loses less because Trick and Shade still maintain almost complete effectiveness with weakness.

Zenos works perfectly as a foil to the WoL. While the WoL might be a hero in the context of the setting, at the end of the day the main motivation for the WoL is the thrill of adventure, the thrill of the hunt. Regardless of whatever roleplay reason you may create for your character this remains the core motivation on a meta level because it represents the desire of the player. We want to see new things, fight stronger opponents, over and over again. Zenos was the same way, but he essentially started his journey as a level 70 adventurer. He had no competition until we arrived, then he received what he always wanted, which is why he was able to connect to only us. Zenos' best line is when he remarks that Lyse and everyone else would never be able to understand the common desire that he and the WoL share. Zenos is the character that's most like the WoL in the entire story, because he's the most like the player.

The story could’ve worked even with the split, the devs just fucked it up mainly because of the huge filler that was the story between 4.2 and 4.3 and the fact that they didn’t use any existing characters for the Ala Mhigo part and threw in Lyse instead. We could’ve had Arenvald or even Widargelt traveling with us, it would’ve been a hundred times more fun.

My main gripe with SB is that the Ala Mhigger side should have been a lot better than it was but it suffered from annoying characters and bland locations. The only likable cast member on that side was M'naggo

The Doman side on the other hand was excellent, in my opinion. The characters and story were great, even going through the patches, the music was always top notch and the locations were interesting. Granted, Yangxia was bit meh and the Ruby Sea felt a bit empty but they both looked nice. And the Azim Steppe is one of my favourite locations they have ever introduced to the game.

HW was so much worse than SB. Did people forget about the massive downtime between every single patch, especially 3.1, 3.3 and 3.5? There literally was no reason to stay subbed.

I'm curious if downing Gaius was always part of the grander scheme from their 1.0 planning, or just something they escalated for 2.0's story reboot since people thought he was cool from his slight amount of appearances in the original game.

a simple fix for Wildfire would be to make it a stacking buff that loses one stack each time you use a weaponskill, then detonates when the last stack is removed. That way ping wouldn't fuck it as hard.

The levels you earn in POTD are separate from everything. You only get an exp reward after clearing every ten floors. Real exp rewards come after clearing 50-60. Once you clear up to 50, you can always choose to restart at 50 and just spam 50-60 clears for mad exp. Or go further once you boost your armor and weapons in the palace.

Meikyu is a client state that sets you as comboed for three actions. You're talking about an enemy debuff (a server state) that gets checked for each of the MCH's next several actions. Meaning at minimum the MCH's client also has to have a flag raised saying 'call the server after every weapon skill'. This sounds trivial but it's actually a big increase from the data side.

The problem isn't with Secure, it's that Slaughter/Seize/Shatter have taught people that it's HORRIBLE TO SPLIT UP NEVER EVER, and Secure is the one map where you would actually want to because it's about capturing & HOLDING the most ground you can, not consolidating on a single objective like in Seize/Shatter.

A left, B mid/flex, C right was (and still is) the best strategy to use; JP still does it. But NA players are braindead and if you tell them they can no longer cower behind a giant deathtrain, they sperg out.

A shame too, because conquering the map and holding 4/5 flags at once is so fucking satisfying to play and look at.

There are still many examples of Ala Mhigans who aren’t entitled savages. The Quarrymill and the Resistance ones for example, even Wilred got his shit together and tried to make something of himself. I think it’s a bit unfair to systematically treat them as such and ask for their death. The Ul’dah refugees definitely didn’t deserve to get Ala Mhigo back but the resistance guys actually tried to get shit done without asking anybody.

It isn't. Most of the points generated in your score in Secure are from the flags; kills usually tend to make up like 25%. Deathballing can be useful, but if a team at any point has more than 3 flags, they're typically building more points per tick than you can get from kills.

This is especially true since deaths don't negatively impact your score in Secure. So it's not like +10 in Seize/Shatter (-5 enemy team, +5 your team), it's only +5.

At this point they should really just create a buffer inventory with 10 slots that you can't add items to but only take items from - and if your main inventory is full then items will overflow there.
When something is in there, you'll have a permanent notification. Every time a new item is added, you receive a noisy notification,

I can highly recommend the books, they had a fun pulp fantasy quality to them but it makes me so sad the remaining 116 volumes are not translated and probably never will be, and it's been out since the 80s (and is still getting writing, I hear).
