Cloud's SOLDIER uniform is extremely non-regulation, though, and while technically 1st classes are allowed to do that, he was carrying Zack's sword, which probably caught her attention in a urgent way.

You just don't get that now in most games, especially not in Japanese games. I thought her arc might be ruined for me because I knew of her death beforehand, but it really enhanced my entire experience of it and made me love the game. It makes me question if my reaction to Final Fantasy VII was totally different to most, because I found it a really emotional coming-of-age story and stuff like the Golden Saucer date turned out super sentimental. It makes me sad in a way that other people never felt this and just joke about Tifa's chest or Aeris is a slut or whatever. I guess I can't get upset but I really loved her character and it's a shame most people don't care.

In "The case of Tifa" they live together happy for a whole year. Cloud starts getting depressed when Aerith's mom sends him a letter and then he gets black goo disease

AC was so poorly handled. The actual film should have been half novella events and then a condensed version of the actual AC.

There is an extended cut of the film that actually explains a lot more and has much more Zack moments where he talks to Cloud as well as Aerith.

This is one moment the original was missing, cloud and company should've visited Elmiyra, they should've been the ones to tell her what happened to aerith. That was a perfect moment to really drive home the drama.

Which is also part of the reason why I kinda hope aerith can be brought back in the remake. Imagine bringing back to her mom's house and she gets to see her last remaining family member again. Tears of pure joy.

Unless they added a bunch to what I read, it's just a series of easy short stories about what the cast does between VII and AC. They are very easy to read.

Yeah man, I've seen ACC. What I mean is that if the only thing you do is watch Advent Children it doesn't actually explain the story well enough. Too much time is wasted on action scenes, not enough on why things are the way they are and how they happen. ACC helps but does not actually alleviate the problems the movie has.

Sort of. Case of Denzel (the OVA) intersects with Case of Tifa, but it's mostly new stuff. The only other OVA is Last Order, the Turks POV of Nibelheim, which is noncanon (or at least it contradicts FFVII)

Again this is where AC fucks up. The novellas explain Sephiroth kept himself together in the lifestream by focusing on hatred of Cloud. It's explicitly a change he undergoes after the game, and it keeps him strong enough to manifest again. Since he can't become God he's just gonna fuck with Cloud at long as he can.
I mean, you can still hate it but it isn't as out of nowhere as AC makes it look.

I think the point is that Cloud may have loved both women to some extend but since his brain was switching between Zack's memories and his own, plus dealing with Mako poisoning and Sephiroth's mind fuckery, the matter of "Cloud's" decisions suddenly becomes overly complicated and speculative. Because of this, it's hard for me to take anything he did at 100% face value because you don't know what combination of his personality is driving him at that moment. The only time I can feel concretely about anything Cloud says or does is when he's finally fixed. That doesn't mean everything that did and said before is meaningless but it 'does' call into question what was influencing those previous actions and decisions.

The other woman he loved is gone. He moved past his depression and guilt and chose to lead a fulfilling life with people he considers as his family. It's not that hard to understand.

I disagree that what he did before his recovery was meaningless. He may not have kept the shitty attitude but is clear the friendships he made were real. It's not like his memory resets.
