What's the best thing to do on the farm, in terms of money vs time invested? Iridium Sprinklers are great for reducing workload, but they appear pretty late, so what's a nice alternative before them?

Are livestock worth bothering with early on? I kind of want to go straight to cows or chickens on my next playthrough, but I'm worried they'll eat through my grass too quickly without offering a lot of return until later on. Same goes for fruit trees, I'm able to forage about 1k per day, so I could theoretically plant around four or five trees before summer hit, but should I even bother?

This game looks comfy, is it worth a buy?

Livestock and fruit trees are the least cost-efficient things in the game. If you are interested in making money then forget about animals and trees. Foraging is absurdly broken in the early game. Just forage everything on the map and water the biggest square of potato as possible, eating spring onions for energy, then salmonberries later. I've also hard great success in the first month planting nothing but wild seeds.

More complected then that, SF's population has stayed the same for a decade. It's the housing laws and insanely high priced rent (That goes up for new tenants) that allow mom and pop stores to exist but at a high cost.

If you have a 3DS and haven't played Rune Factory already then play it instead. It's 10x better. Rune Factory 3 and 4 specifically.

Otherwise it's just an okay game but luckily it can be modded.

It is a little boring at times. You want a horse as soon as possible as well as a sprinkler setup. You'd have to refrain from looking on the wiki though, because it's easy to get drawn into min/maxing which ruins the fun.

You don't have to water them, they grow to full on average in 16 days, the seeds are freely harvested by cutting down maple trees outside the farm or having them spawn near already grown trees, and you only have to harvest them every 8 days. It only nets you 250 gold per tree, but considering they take zero maintenance and don't need sprinklers and produce year round, they're great.

My only complaint with them is that they block your vision while moving around on the farm.

Time ticks away as you play and each day lasts 15-20 minutes. You can go to sleep whenever you want and wake up the next day with full health and energy. You always wake up at 6am. If you hit midnight (or 2am, i forget) you automatically fall asleep wherever you are then wake up at 6am in the same spot, but you don't regenerate health or energy.

Some days there are special events marked on the calendar outside the general store. They'll usually start around 9am, and when you leave, you'll be kicked out back to your farm at 10pm, even if you only went to check it out for a minute.

Usually, there's multiple small stores. For example, when Walmart closed down in one of the neighboring towns, three pharmacies opened up almost over night to fill the void. Unfortunately, pharmaceuticals have pretty set prices, but it did lead to some staying open later than others which was ultimately a good thing since you didn't have to rush to get there by 5:30.

I think most people are missing the point of this game. To me its barely about the le ebil corps, so much as in this promised land called Stardew Valley, not everything is well. Just because you moved in to se rural agricultural community, you're not just going to magically run away from the human problems in the city. For example, Penny is a woman plagued with an unsatisfactory life and shitty mother and having no worthwhile ambition to look forward to, Clint is a man with no passion for his craft despite being so good at it and has nothing else he can do beside it.
