Because Sony still saved Japanese games. During 7th gen a lot of console game developers abandoned it for mobile. A lot of people in Japan were questioning whether console games have a future in a first place, or it will be completely replaced by mobile games in a few years. Sony provided a cheap hardware that is very easy to write games for, compared to previous gen. You can say there is Xbox and PC for that, yeah but japanese developers would never release exclusives for that, unless its the entite development is entirely funded by a company.
All things considered this was a very good generation with games like Nier, Persona, Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry selling faster than any other in the franchise so far
