What does Yea Forums think of Oblivion?
best elder scrolls game by a MILE
Pretty shit overall, but with a baller soundtrack and a couple cool quests.
3/10
honestly, i can't really remember that much, but what i do remember is that it had some good quests but the fights were bs for some reason.
iirc you could ride horses which was cool
Tried playing for the first time like a week ago. Boring as fuck. Weird face expression system, too much reading, shitty combat. Quit after an hour lol.
Try morrowind its more your style
the ultimate pleb filter

Personally though, having not really been an elder scrolls fan, and then coming to Oblivion with a critical eye in my 20’s as opposed to growing up with it ... it was easy to see a lot of flaws, like repeated assets ... a lot of the caves/dungeons are just the same assets rearranged, which kinda demystified the game for me. I think the map could be like half the size or less than what it currently is, and then some more attention to the visuals in the dungeons to make them distinct, and it’d be a better game. That said, the quests were fantastic and it’s one of the peak comfy fantasy games out there.
The worst of the three
Not a fan I want a Skyrim 2
The Pros:
>Some of the quests are pretty good
>Parts of the world are interesting
>Shivering Isles
>Because of it's age, there's a lot of mod content out there
>It's a relatively large game with a lot to explore and Oblivion Gates provide an interesting "Dungeon Crawl" element
The Cons:
>Quite buggy, and some stuff looks very dated and weird
>Certain parts of the game feel unfinished. Like they made the beginning building blocks of things, but didn't finish.
>The leveling and scaling of the game is very poor
>Spell Creation is a bit broken and weird
>It's one of those RPGs where the system of development looks deep or complex at first glance but is actually boring
>Oblivion gates become pretty boring and repetitive
Which game has the better story between Morrowind and Oblivion?
morrowind is dogshit
>level scaling
what's "shivering isles"? add-on?
Morrowind has the better main narrative, but Oblivion's side quests have better narratives.
Wrong.
Bretty good. The radiant AI meme makes for some interesting and often hilarious encounters.
The character models are absolutely horrendous though.
Morrowind would be way better for you
>The character models are absolutely horrendous though.
What went wrong?
Better base RPG mechanics than Skyrim, without being too obtuse like Morrowind
WAY WORSE level scaling mechanics
This. Oblivion is the only ES game to have fun and interesting quests.
Honestly? Being someone that actually played both when they came out, and have put thousands of hours in to both, Neither is particular good in the first place. The Elder Scrolls games are good just because they're generic fantasy worlds to explore and let you play a power fantasy for a while, and you can mod tits into 'em.
I say this unironically, someone should just make an open source First/Third person open world RPG that people can easily mod that just has a major city and a bunch of dungeons around it to mod and explore. All this nonsense of The Elder Scroll's ""lore"" and story is completely worthless. Just play the games to be a [Insert Fantasy Race]-[Insert Fantasy class].
had fun with the shivering isles then quit for a while after because the main quest felt kinda meh in comparison. should get back into it though, definitely better than skyrim.
skyrim is legit a walking simulator with nice graphics made to simulate a fantasy world, not a good game experience
Man, I need to get used to the fact that I'm so old now. Whenever I read shit like this, my knee jerk reaction is to think you're trolling. But you're probably not.
It's a pretty good DLC where you get transported to a magical island full of crazy people dreamt up by the god of madness.

wot
The facegen system and textures must have been unfinished when the game launched. This is the only explanation for the boiled potato faces I can think of.
FO3 was still quite ugly but at least the character models were somewhat tolerable by then.
The lore of the games does seem interesting, and at least provides framework foe the sandbox experience.
I want to play ESO to explore Tamriel more but goddamn I tried a few of the classes and they all suck. What do I do?
>someone should just make an open source First/Third person open world RPG that people can easily mod that just has a major city and a bunch of dungeons around it to mod and explore.
This. Bethesda has a monopoly on these types of games because they're literally the only people who do it and its why they sell so well because mods give so much replayability. If Dragons Dogma 2 or CP2077 had mod tools, Bethesda would be dead in the water.
boring setting, main city is boring, other cities are too small, the map is way too narrow in the south which takes away of the experience. dungeons are repetitive. all in all 4/10
Doesn't hold up at all. Gameplay and leveling are dogshit and the potatoface graphics are an abomination. A few good quests and characters aren't anywhere near enough to redeem it.
But it doesn't need to be good to get some nostalgic respect from people, it just needs to be better than Skyrim, which it is.

>try morrowind
hurr durr
I think everyone overstates how amazing its quests are because quests in modern games have become markedly worse since.
Unmodded, the progression system was kinda crap, on one hand you constantly leveled up and even though something wasn't a core skill it could help you to pick it up a bit, on the other hand everything scales to you so you'll end up at a point where, unless they are quest specific, be fighting common bandits who wear daedric armor.
Can you believe that cucks modded level scaling BACK IN to Fallout 4??
honestly great, the class i made made the combat fun even on higher levels and i got to level 30 doing nothing but quests and shit which is more than i can say for skyrim since theres fuck all to do but wander aimlessly or join god awful factions
thats the joke braindead
i feel that, honestly, oblivion was sort of "past my prime" so to speak.
haven't really played in ages, i think my gaming prime was back in like 96-99 or something.
anyways, how does it compare to the bloodmoon/tribunal ?
also, i don't even bother trolling, did enough of that back in early 2000s or something
EXPANSION
PACK
i always ask myself if the devs thought the gates where in any way fun or interesting. the most boring thing in any bethesda game holy shit
The jack of all trades, suffers for it and needs mods like every elder scrolls, but is the one that needs mods the least.
Only TES game where you can actually make a monk build. I'd like to add "so far" but VI is gonna be shit
funny
What does Yea Forums think of argonians?
Definetly the best TES game. And I have played (but not finished) MW. Has some the best, COMFIEST atmosphere and best quests in any RPG period. About 25% of the quests are incredible. My Top 10 games of all time.
Is flawed/dated in some ways, but thats part of the charm. I don’t recommend a ton of mods but almost every flaw can be fixed with a mod. Even the cheesy parts are enjoyable. The only serious problems it has are the speech system and telepathic guards.
At least it HAS a spell crafting system unlike Skyrim. And it feels “unfinished” because they had one guy design every single cave so they feel repetitve.
also everyone always gushes about the music but i fucking love the sound effects and the look of the UI and the loading screens and stuff
they're ok
I think they look stupid when they just have human anatomy with a lizard head
AT LEAST give them lizard legs.
slave scum
Is that all you have to say?
HOL UP spear mods for skyrim? when did this happen
>too much reading
>oblivion
what's wrong with you?
It was just a case of uncanny valley and bad textures. The game uses FaceGen, third party software that is all about generating human faces accurate to real life. Most real human faces look terrible in video games. From also uses FaceGen which is why the Souls games has so many potato faces too. Bethesda figured out how to make good video game faces with the software at the same time From was generating potato faces so I don't think the software is at fault her, just how it was utilized.
Daedras and Daedra worshiping races fear the hist.
Have your (you)
I don't think about some insignificant flora.
i always thought it looks like decent looking faces plastered on to models that they didnt fit right. if you look closely you can see the mouth/eye/nose region looks more detailed and out of place then the rest of the head
Oblivion is the funniest game of the 21st century.
Aight that li*Ard is pretty cute. Would chain in my basement.
Which country is superior between Morrowind and Skyrim?
He looks like Shrek cosplaying Shinok
The one that isn't a smoldering ashy shithole
Yeah, as much as I like to shit on Bethesda, I have to admit that they did a really good job with the face meshes in Skyrim.
FO4 feels like a straight downgrade.
it's aight
Based Darkman poster
I'm playing it for the first time. Youre saying there are more oblivion gates? Fml that was the least comfy part of the game for me
Always bummed out that they retconned Cyrodil into generic Fantasy kingdom instead of of a deep jungle
>tfw no nord mommy with a chiseled jawline
Tiber hated jungles.
In real life when explorers were in Africa, they documented tribes of people that didn't have heads and had faces in their chest.
Now obviously just because their was an account of it, doesn't mean it was true.
You have to view some of the lore that way, I mean look at the imperial presence in Morrowind, look at their skin, their clothes and culture, literally none of it suggests Jungle.
I think lore autists have taken one passage far too literally.
Nah Tiber just changed it
top tier music; I often listen to the entire soundtrack on youtube to this day
great atmosphere, love the forests and how the ayleid dungeons look
looked great at the time, was very fun at the time
loved the weapons and armor
I spent the entirety of october 2008 doing nothing but playing this game and sleeping; don't regret it one bit
My favorite game of all time
Unironically the worst game I've ever played. Every single aspect of it is godawful, yes including the quests and OST.
try diablo 2, i guarantee you will change your mind
Fun when it came out but I'd only replay it for the good quests and Shivering Isles
>that dark brotherhood quest in the mansion were you kill each participant one by one
