To these people, learning how to be Sword guy would greatly improve their happiness (at least assuming they don't enjoy getting killed by weak ass trashmobs and spending half the game dead), but they refuse to do it.

It's not because they prefer their personal happiness.
It's because they prefer their personal _incompetence_, and trading personal incompetence for actually being good at the fucking game is, to most people, a harder thing to get them to do than to just suffer butthurt until they ragequit.
This extends to relationships.
How many women do you know of that utterly _refuse_ to change their behaviour, even when they aren't making themselves happy, much less their boyfriend/husband? I can think of quite a few.
Their motive? They legit do not have one. They do not operate under such patriarchal constraints as "motive" or "reason". They'd rather bring down everyone around them than at least try to keep appointments and remember their responsibilities.
