user I feel you. I had a gt 210 at one point paired with a AMD Athalon with 3gb of ram. I remember running just cause 2 and getting 30 FPS on low settings.

user if you made that on a dumpy computer then my advice is set your sights lower. Like someone else mentioned, focus on making a decent 2D game to start.

user a cheap method of getting a decent gaming pc is getting a old sff pc (small PCs that you would see in college) from like eBay and pairing it with a low profile GPU. I know a friend who did that and he gets pretty decent performance.

DS2 tried to calculate weapon / armor degradation by checking if they were touching anything damaging each frame, which caused them to degrade faster the higher the frame rate, which was originally scaled to the 10fps consoles can manage

just avoid trying to reuse video/audio final outputs for game mechanics, and your game should only run smoother on higher end systems

DSFix unlocking the framerate on Dark Souls fucked the gravity. That was exactly what I was thinking of.
I guess that might not matter but like I said above user, I have seen games increased in framerate and odd bugs crop up. Just keep that in mind. Also you might deal with the issue that something looks "good" on your low framerate but looks very odd when the animation is not running at toaster speed. Not trying to be a dick it would just be a shame to do a ton of work on a game and not have it work right or look right on most people's systems.
