You're in tenpai, you can and should Kan if you're in tenpai. Not only that but you also have 3 triplets, a lucky dora would turn an already good hand into a monster hand. Not kan-ing that hand would be a pussy move and you should feel bad for that.

As a long-time player, I just want to say that Mahjong has CLOSE TO NOTHING TO DO with skill.
No, I don't count basic tiles efficiency as skill. It's more like a requirement to play this game.
My internet was down a few days ago and I played with computer all day.
Oh boy, those games were hard and I got busted into negative multiple times.
It doesn't matter how good you are at discard reading and hand building, There's way too much uncontrollable situation that will be your downfall. For example, getting Ippatsu'd right after you Riichi, or just getting shit hands and draws in general
The best thing you can do is being a super paranoid player and fold every single dangerous situation a.k.a "last place avoidance" playstyle, which is the most suitable for online Mahjong.
Don't fall for "Mahjong is a skill-based game" or "If skill doesn't matter, how did X players consistently get into top placing?" meme. Those top rank players overcame their bad luck with the sheer amount of games played with last place avoidance to consistently rank up.
No matter how much fans want to mask this game as high-level skill-based game, this game is inherently gambling and luck is HUGE factor.
If you want to "get good" or rank up, the only thing you can do is to keep playing non-stop, hundreds of games, while avoiding 4th place as much as possible, then you'll definitely rank-up. I don't know how soon you'll rank-up, but you will.

Do you know how furiten works?
It means that if a player has discarded a tile, they can't ron it anymore.
You can essentially fold by forgetting about getting a good hand and just discarding tiles that people you know/suspect are in tenpai have already discarded. You won't win, but you won't get ron'd either. This is actually an extremely essential strategy

Do the tutorial than try to memorize yaku. You should know all of them eventually, but you can start with a small subset of it.

Playing online means you don't really need to know how scoring works, but you should be able to count your han if you were to win. You don't need to know how fu works, except for how to win a hand worth 0 additional fu.

If your tile efficiency is good, then remember that luck is out of your control, and thus not relative to your skill. Play south games for more chance to weather those hard luck rounds.

I have no idea if it applies to virtual online Mahjong as I don't actually play this, but I assume its similar even if you can't read people because you can see if they're in likely Tenpai, I'll say it anyway:

It isn't always about having the best hand. In fact, accepting you won't win every round is an important part of getting better. Sometimes you r goal for the majority of a round may be playing defensively to deny a deal-in. Sometimes you'll sit with a crapsack undora all simples and think "do I really want to win with one-two yaku?" Yes you fucking do, because the asshole next to you has been building four winds and you're onto the last 30 discards.

Oh, and for now: Always dump honours first. You will always be in a better place statistically if you do this. It denies you some of the crazier yaku but so many new players consider a seat/prevalent wind or dragon set a crutch to support a hand, it mathematically is ALWAYS better to not do this, so if don't, until you're in a place of experience.

I am glad so many of you are enjoying a new game! I think if you ever play in real life you may come to love it too, though it is often a lot slower than this is likely to be. A two-winds game between friends of the same skill level chatting can go on for hours

I use that strategy super often. Think about it. If you're the only one in tenpai you get 3000 points from other players. That's worth three times a "pon pon chi" no dora hand.
Worse case scenario, you're forced to break your yaku to betori and have to pay others tenpai tax.

If you are talking about bonus rounds, whenever the dealer (East seat) wins a round it goes into a bonus round where that player remains East (seats don't change) until somebody else wins.

If dealer wins or is in tenpai at the end of a hand, the round is repeated.

If he's in tenpai when nobody completes a hand at the end and all tiles are drawn it counts as his win, even if others are in tenpai as well.

There's a pretty big power gap between bronze and silver. I shot out of bronze on like my second day playing, and now I've just been floating at ~300 for a week while I learn to play more defensively.

Also, if you're stuck in bronze, it's because you don't know how to advance your hand efficiently and you never stop to think if your opponents are in tenpai. No way to sugarcoat it, you basically have no idea what the fuck you're doing if you're stuck at novice.

Like I said, if this is your first online mahjong game, you need to play more matches for the knowledge and experience to keep winning 1st or 2nd. 3rd and 4th reduces your xp, worse if you bust into negatives. If your serious laddering, you gotta gitgud. Otherwise, just enjoy the game casually and not worry too much about ranking up.

The key to getting out of novice is to make not dealing in your #1 priority. Not dealing in is more important than winning hands. If someone calls riichi, you generally just want to fold unless you're very close and can discard safe stuff before breaking up your hand. At the very least, you should do one safe discard on the first go around to avoid dealing into an ippatsu.

This. Even if you reduced this principle to absurdity and folded literally every hand from the first draw, you'll still wind up 2nd or 3rd 95% of the time in bronze. If you pedal that back just a little bit and only play the best and fastest hands, folding as soon as you think you've fallen behind and someone is 1-shanten or better, you will be getting 1st and 2nd almost uniformly, only going 3rd when some nyagger busts out on the other two players.

Seems reasonable, but most of your income is gonna be from daily quest; you don't win a whole lot from ranked unless you consistently place 1st/2nd. Average win for a 1st place in silver is probably about 1500 coppers, so for your strat you'd need to get 1st 10 times before you could buy a 15k item. This is already a lot, but when you factor in getting 2nd place, which wins you barely anything (and can lose you coppers), and 3rd/4th which will outright lose you a lot of coppers, you could easily run out multiple times before you make it back up to 15k.

The other winds require specific combinations you are too pleb to worry about yet. You should generally be dumping honours tiles you don't already have a set of for now too.

Yes I always do get rid of honors but I keep getting wind so I want to see if I can make a useful hand out of those

dealer is always east but in south round, south is the 'prevailing wind'
