Is he based off Light Yagami? Even his arcana is named after something Light claims to believe in so often. Both character's stories seem to line up

nice crossboarding fag

it's vidya related so nah

cringe

>persona
Cringe

never ever

I love Death Note, OP. But even though he looks a little bit like Light, I honestly they should have made him more like L. Should have played him straight and honest as a foil to the morally questionable way the Phantom Thieves were manipulating people. But instead they made the Thieves flawless and could do no wrong and made Akechi become "I AM SILLY." The most disappointing thing P5 did was never question if it was right for the party to be passing judgement on people the way they see fit.

>The most disappointing thing P5 did was never question if it was right for the party to be passing judgement on people the way they see fit.
they did tho. more than one time

Just a passing conversation where the characters just shrugged it off like "haha nah it's for the best." If you're talking about the polls on the website, that's pretty irrelevant too because everyone just turns around to loving them in the end anyway. If the Phantom Thieves were able to keep doing what they were doing for their whole lives, the world would end up like the latter half of Death Note where they're worshipped like god and everyone lives in fear of them.

>If the Phantom Thieves were able to keep doing what they were doing for their whole lives, the world would end up like the latter half of Death Note where they're worshipped like god and everyone lives in fear of them.
I guess? But none of the phantom thieves have evil intentions anyways

>But none of the phantom thieves have evil intentions anyways
So?

>So?
lol

I'm sure Light didn't think his intentions were bad either.

phantom thieves dont kill people though

Yeah they just completely change them to act like different people.

Him and Joker are both chosen by Yaldabaoth he is the Law and Order and Joker is Chaos and Freedom the new girl is probably gonna be the inbetween since she disagrees with how the PT do things

ok?

yeah they just leave you mentally fucked in put in a mental hospital for the rest of your life

I can already feel how poorly written she's going to be.
>I hate the phatom thieves...
>I'm a phatom thief!

sounds cool

>these are the people praising P5's story

actually the same person. but if you dislike the game so much why enter a thread about it?

>Mr Pancake shows similarity to Light in terms of personality
>Light's Japanese VA was casted as Ryuji
>Lelouch's Japanese VA was casted as MC/Akira/Ren
What did they mean by this?

Because I like other aspects of the game and finding discussion on the story's flaws interesting? My point is that you've got issues if you don't see the problem with literally mindfucking people and erasing them so they can be someone else.

It's almost like vigilante justice, which you know, is the very notion that Phantom Thieves operate under.

>Is he based off Light Yagami?
No. He is based on Persona 2's Jun Kurosu and Tatsuya Sudo, with a tints of P1's Reiji Kidou regarding daddy issues.

Yes, and they never did anything with that idea. The phantom thieves were just painted as in the right just because, or because Goro was batshit and made them seem a lot better.

It seems like you dislike the game though if you're so quick to anger at anyone who defends the phantom thieves motives. But alright
I can see why you think changing people's cognitions can be abused easily. But the phantom thieves prefer doing things ethically. Your points just seem to be only hypothetical

The entire game has been "What if Lelouch and Light met each other?"

Well I'm guessing "charming psychopath" isn't exactly original to begin with, but yeah they are very similiar so at the very least he's probably inspired by him

That is in fact the entire premise of incarceration as rehabilitation, which is practiced in every civilized country in the world, as opposed to incarceration as punishment. The whole point is to take a criminal and get them to stop being a criminal and start acting like a normal decent human being capable of living in society without being an asshole. The PTs just do it over the course of an afternoon as opposed to years. The main theme of the game is rehabilitation.

I like gameplay, music, side characters, art direction and the themes it presents initially. So I do like it a decent amount, it's just that the story was very disappointing for me, especially after it was marketed as a mature Persona game.

It's not about it being hypothetical, but rather that the themes were handled in such a one dimensional and childish way. Every one that opposes the phantom thieves is painted a blatant villain, and the game rarely questions or challenges their actions to any substantial degree.

Would it have been better then if Goro was 100% light and used his metaverse powers to kill criminals opposed to the PT who rehabilitate them.
Detective prince by day, Kira by night?

>and the game rarely questions or challenges their actions to any substantial degree
I'd assume it wouldn't since we're playing from the perspective of the phantom thief leader and we get to learn the phantom thieve's motives firsthand.

No he was based on en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kogoro_Akechi

The themes of the game are that assholes are capable of exploiting and abusing society's written and unwritten rules for their own personal benefit and that otherwise decent people can get fucked around the same way even when they really didn't do anything wrong, both of which are things that happen in real life literally all the fucking time. The game wouldn't work if the bad guys weren't assholes and the good guys weren't more-or-less decent people.

He's more like L, at least at first. The Phantom Thieves are the ones operating in the shadows while he's calling them out on television. And the way he plays mind games with Joker and won't leave him alone reminds me of the whole "I know he knows and he knows I know he knows" dynamic that L and Light had. But then it turns out that his motivations have nothing to do with his perception of justice so the similarities end there.

The problem isn't that the Phantom Thieves are the unquestionable forces of good while their enemies are always evil. It's fine for a fictional story, especially those that have fantasy elements, to ignore those things if they're not the focus.

The problem is that they sort of made it the focus by introducing Akechi who explicitly makes the concerns about brainwashing that we're really not supposed to think about too hard. Either don't talk about it at all and let us suspend our disbelief or explore it thoroughly and make it a part of the story. Making Akechi a completely evil asshole who was playing the public all along sort of pushes that entire plot point away never to be seen again.

There's a lot of shit like that in the game though which brings up some fucked up stuff and everyone cheerfully ignores the ramifications. Like Futaba's friend whose parents sexually abuse her in order to make money that get their hearts changed through magic and immediately become good people who get to keep their daughter with no consequences.

>The problem is that they sort of made it the focus by introducing Akechi who explicitly makes the concerns about brainwashing that we're really not supposed to think about too hard.
user, the PTs themselves address this internally, multiple times, and in fact do so before Akechi even showed up. They're doing what they're doing because it is ultimately a thing that helps people. The fact that Akechi even says that he disagrees with their methods at all is itself bullshit because the PTs' methods aren't publicly known. This is obvious from the very beginning, even before he drops the pancake line, let alone when he's finally revealed to be evil. Akechi only has complaints but no substance behind them.

>Both character's stories seem to line up
No, they really don't. Unless you haven't watched Death Note or haven't played P5.

Light was interesting and amusing to follow. Akechi is garbage and even the game is quick to forget about him.

>Obviously you dislike the game for having opposite opinions from the main characters
Are we really doing this?

>the game is quick to forget about him
