Blizzard have invited multiple Diablo III streamers to BlizzCon 2019. It's unlikely that they're going to focus on Diablo Immortal for a second year in a row. According to Kotaku, Diablo IV development was rebooted in 2016 under codename Fenris, because the game's previous development wasn't shaping up well.
Project Hades: >After the launch of Diablo III's first expansion, many Diablo developers were moved to other teams or left the company. The remaining developers on the Diablo team, under the leadership of Josh Mosquiera, began working on Diablo IV under the code name "Hades". The project was in development for two years, only to be canceled later in 2016 when Mosquiera left the company. According people familar with Hades, the development wasn't shaping up well, so now, people on the Diablo dev team had nothing to work on and decided to come up with Rise of the Necromancer DLC in the meantime to make up for the canceled project.
Project Fenris: >In 2016, the Diablo team began developing a project with the code name "Fenris", which is supposed to be Diablo IV, with Luis Barriga as Game Director, who worked on World of Warcraft in the past. The goal of the project is to eliminate the cartoony elements of Diablo III, and quite literally, embrace the darkness. Another goal is to make Fenris more social by introducing light MMO elements to the game, so instead of having hubs full of NPCs, you'd see other players there, similar to how it works in Path of Exile. The development team is discussing, whether the game should have a new over-the-shoulder 3rd person view or an isometric camera like the game is using now.
Diablo: Immortal: >According to Schreier, there are two separate teams working on Diablo IV and Diablo: Immortal. Some developers within the company are tired of working on a single title for 10+ years, so they moved to different teams to work on smaller projects. Diablo: Immortal was primarily developed for China, because the quality standards for games there are super low. Blizzard later decided to wait for a global launch.
also you'd have to be an idiot if you think that diablo 4 is somehow news.
it's been in development for quite some time.
James Perry
why does anyone still hold out hope? they cancelled d3's second xpac because they couldn't monetize the game. whatever future this game has is going be riddled with lootbox cancer.
Gabriel Evans
>Diablofags setting themselves up for disappointment. >Again.
Lootboxes are being regulated right now, they'll fall under gambling law soon (no underage players, limited advertising, high taxes), and gaming will abandon them.
The window for maximum hype has closed. Anything they do now will be seen (rightfully) as damage control. Why they didn't end the opening ceremony last year with a flaming 4 on a big screen is beyond me. That's all they needed to avoid any negative backlash and have a positive feeling towards Immortal (or at least more positive than they got). Bethesda did it right - announced Fallout Shelter as an inbetween product before F4. Exactly what Immortal needed to be. Personally, I won't buy any more Blizzard products. Even if they announce D4, I won't be interested. Also it will be always-online which is one of the biggest fucking cancers in modern single player gaming.
Sebastian Reed
who fucking gives a fuck about blizzard anymore? imagine having hope for any blizzard game
Luis Torres
>couldn't monetize the game Except for the millions they made in the Chinese version of D3 which had a cosmetics shop and a shitload more content than the Western release?
Nathaniel Carter
I wouldn't bank on anything affecting lootboxes until they actually had a bill passed (which takes a while), and I don't think it affects M-rated games. It was more how games for under 18 year olds were gambling.
Caleb Brooks
Who gives a shit about Diablo at this point?
Austin Lopez
>Why they didn't end the opening ceremony last year with a flaming 4 on a big screen is beyond me. Remember how Mount&Blade Bannerlord was announced with a splash screen and the logo, and everyone was super hyped, and then 5000 years later it released? Maybe they don't want that. Diablo projects have been cancelled a few times since D3 released, and D3 itself was cancelled at least twice before it released. Blizzard just doesn't know how many of the things they start will end up released. Only Valve is worse in delivering.
Don't be retarded. We've seen how these companies develop games now. Anything they put out will be hot trash
Jose Foster
There are no "path of exile fans" or "diablo fans" in this genre, they are just ARPG fans. They'll play any game in the genre if they can explore builds and race with others or play monopoly with the economy. So yes, there are many people who care. Its the genre where everyone plays everything, its not like shooters where people only "main" one game.
I'm really disappointed they scrapped the Diablo souls-like spinoff project. All they would have to do is reskin an existing game and they would have had a masterpiece.
Christian Parker
the bill won't pass. its just another politican looking for votes. just like when politicians from hawaii, washington state, and minnesota said they were gonna make a new bill and nothing came of it then either.
John Roberts
If a chinaman pays $1 for your game, how many cents do you receive? >china commercial tax >china protectionist fees >communist party corruption >transaction fees >usa commercial tax >you Its a long chain.
Jaxson Fisher
meant for
Cameron Garcia
The fact that they didn't take the risk announcing 4, though, shows how out of touch they are with their community. They thought releasing a mobile game only was going to pan out better than announcing 4 and then canceling it? They've definitely lost diehard customers over this in an apparent attempt to gain the Chinese audience (who will drop them the instant the wind changes direction). I can't see that being a good business plan. I don't think you're wrong, I just think it's stupid that they acted how they did.
Cameron White
the only problem is there is no fucking competition for PoE and its slowly getting more and more shit each patch id love for a new ARPG that is actually good to come out
Henry Ross
They likely would have operated through a subsidiary Chinese company and funneled profits out through laundering or other shady practices. Similar to how they're using Chinese company to develop and run Diablo Immortal. It's all in the borders already. They wouldn't have paid all of those fees.
Thomas Moore
Diablo 4 is not coming out for another 10 years, there's nothing new they could do that isn't already in Diablo 3, the tech is still pretty much the same.
Around 2030 we'll get StarCraft 3 and Diablo 4.
Tyler Phillips
No, I'm asking who CARES about DIABLO? PoE is more of a Diablo than D3 could ever been and it's been obvious Blizzard doesn't give a fuck about it, becuase you can't milk it the way they would like to.
Christian Morales
Imagine having to sit there with a straight face and shill for Diablo 3/4. Blizzard shills, streamers, "content creators" in general are wretched, it's sad watching them try to squeeze blood from a stone.
Liam Butler
I haven't played Diablo 3 after disliking the free demo they did, but I keep reading it eventually got good. Kripparian said so too, he's a veteran of the genre.
Caleb Bennett
it didnt get good
Tyler Parker
Diablo 3 eventually reached the point where it should have been at launch, roughly about the time they launched the first (and only) XPac.
>no more RMA, long since removed >grind rebalanced >ability to adjust the difficulty from the start to make up for how goddamn dogshit easy it is
Ironically the console versions were the best versions thanks to controller support and the dodge roll changing how the game could be played.
Here's the thing though - thats bullshit. You shouldn't have to wait 3 years for a game to get good, and it should be a huge warning sign for any other products. Getting good eventually is a "well you tried" sticker. I'm not one of these people who think a game lives and dies in it's week of release, god knows I love long term support. But you should at least be feature complete and you shouldn't get a pass for your hot garbage because the deafening roar of the consumer telling you to go fuck yourself made you course correct. The fact they had to fix things like the RMA at all shows a tremendous lack of awareness and contempt for the audience.
Jeremiah Cox
kripp is a blizzard shill he was paid off years ago and is now a professional shill being paid 6+ figures to play and promote blizzard
David Carter
Don't be ridiculous. They're just doing it to dox the shit out of them using that verification app. After Blizzcon 2018 they're enemies of the state now.
Chase Perez
Kripparian shits on Blizzard daily, he was banned from Diablo and WoW for sharing exploits, and they don't even invite him to events now.
Jaxson Clark
>because quality standards for games are super low
the laws of Public Relations dictates this statement as something that would not be said by a Blizzard Employee or else they'd be hung by the balls, so it makes me greatly distrust the rest of your argument
Jeremiah Jackson
I copied that from the forum I linked. Clearly its not a direct quote, but on Blizzcon they did say things like "the Chinese market has different culture and expectations" etc, which essentially meant the same thing.
Isaiah Sanders
LMAO WHO CARES?! I'M NOT GIVING ACTIVISION A FUCKING PENNY!
Hunter Price
Although I agree with Synthesis and Betrayal being pretty shit as league mechanics, there is so much sheer content in PoE that no new ARPG is going to be able to compete.
Nicholas Sanders
There are people who beat the story ONCE and quit playing, you know. Others who reach max level ONCE and quit playing. Those are large masses of people, who will move to a new ARPG when it comes out.
Jeremiah Taylor
>PoE thrived off of the """""""competition""""""" provided by Diablo 3 >Everything Blizzard did just made PoE look amazing by comparison >They stop doing anything and just give up completely >Realise that PoE is slowly getting worse with every new league without something even shittier to compare it with
Are blizzdrones the biggest idiots in gaming? How many times do you people need to learn not to hype yourself up? Diablo is pretty much forgotten, and if it ever comes back, its gonna be a microtransaction lootboxed filled shit.
Robert Reyes
>Blizzard have invited multiple Diablo III streamers to BlizzCon 2019. It's unlikely that they're going to focus on Diablo Immortal for a second year in a row.
I wouldnt put it past them to find the people that would play immortal and pay them to do so. I wouldnt be surprised to see another announcement talking about how diablo wont be shown at Blizzcon. The Stockholm syndrome for Blizzard really is quite amazing though.
Bentley Stewart
Nobody who reaches lvl100 in PoE is going to stop playing. If lots of people stopped after the story, then what does it matter when theres only a handful of ARPGs to play? All Diablo has going for it is brand association and even that isn't worth shit anymore. I dont doubt a shitload of people are going to play it, but I dont think itll survive. Anthem and F76 are great examples, gobbled up by normies on release and now nobody is playing them.
Adrian James
Anthem and F76 were "good recipes", as in they would've attracted and maintained a normie playerbase and succeed, they were just badly executed. A competent cash grab does indeed grab cash. And Blizzard has been, for the most part, pretty competent with what they release. I don't like the design everywhere, but whatever design there is, they normally execute it well.
Parker Martin
You are not wrong but they choose to do something even worse which was to not shut up and that at the worst time and place and made it worse by talking even more. Blizzard knew that the playerbase (in the west at least) was already pissed off they knew that they needed to calm them down with something positive or about some progress in some other project that they where planning but no they had to make a giant commercial for a cash grab mobile game as if it was the major presentation to an audience that already had low expectations. Blizzard refused to listen to the critical community feedback ( which was already being ignored by the rather pathetic mods on the blizzard forums) and just thought that the old saying still goes that this consumer base will buy any shit that they will produce and won't complain about it and thanks to that attitude are they now known as the studio that will just fuck your hopes right in the ass and will even send some very angry journos after complaining consumers that will write insulting articles about said consumers who rightfully complain that a product is not up to standard which is a terrible reputation to have in the west. They best move Blizzards PR team could have done during that presentation was to tell the guy presenting it to just shut up or at least tell the press afterwards to not blow it up but that is hindsight for you. I will also predict that the next blizzcon might become the one with the lowest amount of visitors and it even has a small chance to become the last one all thanks to that one big fuck up.
Asher Butler
>become the one with the lowest amount of visitors and it even has a small chance to become the last one all thanks to that one big fuck up. Dont underestimate the blind faith of blizzard fans. The event will sell out at the higher price and people will still pay to watch the panels live even though the information is almost instantly posted online.
Hudson Wood
they will announce that diablo immortal is now going to be a multiplatform game they will try to dress it up by saying they listened to the critical feedback over a mobile only diablo game and how it's now been reworked from the ground up for pc, etc.
remember me when blizzcon happens
Matthew Butler
This year I might actually unironically watch the stream only to see how much they can fuck up things even more. It's absolutely beyond me how the video game company with the most fan goodwill in the world, built up in decades, managed to burn it all in a matter of weeks
Jaxon Stewart
just shut up and consume your enjoyment is nothing but an unexpected side-effect
I dunno man I mean I never expected that anyone from the visitors would have the balls to even call them out during the presentation but it happend. I mean they chafted the HotS e-sports and Diablo fanbase, Wow is still bland, Overwatch is arlready forgotten by the masses just like SC 2 and Hearthstone is most likely the only thing that still makes them consistent money and is not just hated by the community or is ruined by stupid decisions. But Blizzard made some good press by releasing diablo 1 on GoG but I do not know if that is enough to get some goodwill from the hardcore fans back I guess which is why I made that prediction but I could also be wrong and be dissapointed by the lack of self control and or will some of these fans have when it comes to not spending money.
Jace Fisher
How can you still care about Blizzard? How do you continue to keep coming back and having faith in them? When the fuck are you stupid niggers going to learn?
Andrew Sullivan
>Blizzcon 2019 >Diablo
100% of attendants present will be paid shills to avoid another PR disaster like last year.
Aiden Rodriguez
Why would they invite Diablo streamers if there will be no Diablo stuff? Obviously there will be something, the question is if it will be the mobile game, an expansion for D3, or a sequel to D3, or a new game set in the Diablo universe.
Joshua Perez
>It's unlikely that they're going to focus on Diablo Immortal for a second year in a row. hahaha HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
Grayson Mitchell
It's blizzard slaves trying to defend their corpo again.
Joseph Smith
>It's unlikely that they're going to focus on Diablo Immortal for a second year in a row. lol
Christopher Kelly
>Synthesis and Betrayal being pretty shit as league mechanics dude, you are the one getting shit at games. Too much ubishit and phone pay to win makes you a lesser gamer. It's not POE's fault you are now lazy and unable to play beyond the brand.
Ryan Perez
>a new Diablo game >this one is also trapped in development hell Fool me once Blizz
Brayden Murphy
>shilling chinese f2p games Do you get paid in dog meat?
Jason Martinez
Red letter quotes are so powerful....
Michael Anderson
>You don't obey me? You are from the ENEMY TRIBE Doubling down is the final proof. You aren't a gamer, you are a brand supporter. You live to post pepe faces on twitch. And will die as such.
Hudson Watson
The problem with POE is the better your build the more boring it plays.
Bentley Diaz
>According to Kotaku, Stopped reading there.
Juan Hughes
They need to remaster d2 or really change the game completely from what it was in d3.
No way it competes with POE if it doesn't
Sebastian Rodriguez
I'm not even the faggot you argued with, I just wanted to know if you get paid in dog meat
A lot of people care, dumbass. I imagine most POE players like myself want blizzard to make a good game that is competitive with poe.
POE has no competition at all like someone else said and it's getting more and more shit.
David Phillips
Imagine defending trash leagues like synthesis, and betrayal.
Blake Watson
>eliminate cartoony elements >replace NPCs with other players These two objectives are irreconcilable.
Adam Butler
Oh, there probably will be diablo staff. But just like last year, the whole presentation will not be created for gamers, but for shareholders (Diablo being about killing demons with your kids? lol). They don't want gamer's response, which will be negative - they want positive reaction to every fucking word, no mater how anti-gamer and pro-corporate it will be.
Audience will be rigged, and streamers will be forbid to utter a single negative word under civil contract.
Cameron Harris
diablo sold because it was bundled with wow before reviews were available, and nobody plays wow or gives blizzard the benefit of the doubt anymore
Jack Rogers
Blizzard haven't released a single good game since Diablo 2, why do you still have hopes? Even that was Blizzard North
Brody Reyes
>A chef who gets the omelette right only every once in a while is a true professional chef.
diablo2 nostalgia is still strong, especially in blizzard communities that basically closed themselves from the world of gaming since Wow. Being a blizzdrones means they only thing blizzard, talk blizzard and consume blizzard. D2 is still fresh for them, because we are only at D3.
Gavin Baker
>because we are only at D3. We're at D:I now and apparently blizzdrones didn't have phones.
Luke Johnson
You are on repeat, you can't argument anything. You spent so much time bitching on redddit you forgot about the game entirely. It's all about the karma farming.
Alexander James
>multiple Diablo III streamers There are people who streams Diablo 3?
>Although I agree with Synthesis and Betrayal being pretty shit as league mechanics, Mechanics themselves are fine. Betrayal just began as an unbalanced mess and both leagues have severe performance issues. They're shitty leagues technical-wise but not mechanic-wise. Synthesis is basically just an extra Breach if you don't wish to get involved any deeper than that.
Joshua Long
Shut up, Jason. You're shit at your job and you should be ashamed of yourself.
Julian Brown
Yea, I like to stream me and my friends playing it.
Hunter Rivera
>There are no "path of exile fans" you would be surprised how many people are addicted to poe and obsessively shitpost in every other arpg thread trying to get more people to serve their chinese overlords
Jonathan Bailey
>a no retort coping reply
Sebastian Reed
>Some developers within the company are tired of working on a single title for 10+ years
How about taking pride in your creation you pieces of shit? They should all be fired if they refuse to work on the projects.
Joseph Bailey
>blizzard invited shills to blizzcon
Elijah Lewis
>ITS OK WHEN BLIZZARD DOES IT
Tyler Morris
>Diablo IV Who the fuck wants this? I mean, can they ruin Diablo even more after 3.
Easton Bailey
D3 post RoS was pretty good and the seasons looked like the game was shaping up for a comeback story.
Then they just fucking stopped working on it at all because it wasn't a microtransaction cash grab like Hearthstone.
Evan Wilson
STOP, IT'S ALREADY DEAD!!!
Henry Cooper
Yes. Is that even a question?
David Lopez
Do you see any question mark dude? Of course not. Of course it was rhetorical question.
>It's unlikely that they're going to focus on Diablo Immortal for a second year in a row oh boy you are in for some big surprise
Ian Allen
They don't need to do anything groundbreaking or TECHNOLOGY, all they really need to do is >build upon how good D3's combat and its impact feels (basically, keep the level of gore D3 has and go even further and make the environment even more destructible) >bring back proper builds - skill trees (with rune effects as sidegrades on the tree similar to Grim Dawn), diverse itemization that isn't solely focused around set items and a handful of uniques, things like charms/whatever the talisman was gonna be in D3 >bring back the dark atmosphere and visual style/grittiness of D2 - the painterly shit is honestly kind of nice, but is too soft for Diablo. At the very least give it more depth with bumpmapping and actual fine detail. >embrace the player economy and allow free trading again instead of trying to fight an unwinnable battle against RMT
None of this is going to happen obviously since Blizzard has been dead for years and it's just Activision wearing the hide, but it's nice to dream.
Kevin Ross
didn't china block immortal anyway
Justin Diaz
>Blizzard made an internal announcement that shocked the Diablo dev team, as they learned from the higher-ups that the second Diablo III expansion was canceled. The executives considered Diablo III a massive failure
didn't it sell 10 million copies or something? how many billions of copies blizzard needs to sell to consider the game a "success" if that's not enough?
Luke Walker
>Lootboxes imagine making a decent game that doesnt require lootboxes to hook people
Connor Sanders
>still doing damage control for last year fuck up with inmortal Lmaoing at blizz
Benjamin Parker
Not enough microtransactions to sate Bobby Kotick's eternal hunger, that's why they're moving on to a mobile game.
William Gutierrez
It's a failure because their plan to monetize loot through the RMAH failed They were banking on it and players didn't like it and refused to use it
Grayson Powell
>work for years on a game but can do it they you originally wanted it to be because of some corporate fags that wants to add new shit every couple of months Yeah i wonder why would they feel a burden and decide to fuck off
Jonathan Sanders
they already did with immortal but oh you wait, bli$$ard is not finished yet
You forgot: >Steal PoE's best ideas Blizzard are very good at taking other games ideas and refining them.
Bentley Reyes
rumor has it it will be like this >plays like e-sports >cartoon art style >microtransactions >always online >written by a 22 year old female blogger with pink hair
>and betrayal. Fuck you i liked Betrayal, it gave us some fun characters!
Jayden White
>written by a 22 year old female blogger with pink hair most of those just got fired
Dominic Bailey
I would almost respect Blizz if they flew out all the streamers to play Diablo Immortal and don't showcase Diablo 4. Can you imagine the shit show? It would be such a fuck you that it deserved respect.
Adrian Torres
>mfw I remember Rise of the Necromancer happened, for $15, 5 years after release
