This game genuinely has some of the best foliage I've seen. Really nice art style.

Bruma is the best town in the game, the cosiest, also with the most interesting shit going on around it.

Chorrol doesn't have so much going on, but nice location, surrounded by forest/farmland, and nice architecture.

Cheydinhal is really nice, interesting architecture, nice walkways, lots going on, but with seedy underbelly and corruption.

Skingrad - really nice town, nice castle, nice surroundings, but a bit enclosed. maybe the most unique of all the towns, did i mention the castle, it's basically one big castle, really nice town, especially in foggy weather.

Anvil - port town - attracts the riff-raff at the docks; pirates, skooma dealers etc, also infested with crime, in fact there's probably more trouble in the walls than on the docks.

Leyawiin - quite a dreary place in some ways, flat, flooded, poor, surrounded by marshlands and swamps, but plenty of character.

Bravil - avoid.

I wish Oblivion's towns were bigger. They could be quite comfy.

What are some essential mods for replaying oblivion? Aside from the usual unofficial patches to fix Bethesdas code?

Oblivion is comfy as fuck but I need something to make the gameplay more interesting.

>at least it wuz fo' i fucked everthang up

I think it's because the bundles of leaves are unrealistically chunky. Everything looks so lush, in an almost stylized way. Skyrim was more realistic, and, as a result, a lot more plain or even boring. Oblivion compensated for lack of detail with a more stylized look, and wins out because of it

In everything but NPCs, anyway. Oblivion will always be potato central

It's "acquired taste", but I like the way you think.

How so? A lot of the quests are actually interesting, with only the mages guild (and most of the main quest) being downright boring. The exploration was always great fun, even if the dungeons quickly got repetitive. Now the vanilla game has a lot of issues, but I wouldn't consider it shitty. Just lacking

>objectively a shitty game

Your opinion is not an objective statement. You personally might not like it, that's fine, but don't use the word objectively in an objectively incorrect manner.

Will we evere get a oblivion remaster or just re release?

Probably my favorite track in the game, good taste user

It's a small village ran by a cult. They keep slaves in the cave system beneath the buildings, and worship something they call the "The Deep Ones" which are even deeper into the cave system. We never see them, but they can be heard.

basically a lovecraft reference.

Attached: XFZezTS.jpg (1920x1080, 434K)

I doubt it, and it never fails to get me rustled. If it could get even one tenth of the love Skyrim has gotten post-release, I'd be happy.

Take out Riften since that probably smells like shit with the water canal taking people's sewage.

>tfw tried to replay Oblivion but can't even get past the start of the game without being disappointed with the controls, animations, dialogue etc.

I loved it so much as a teenager

>crime
>not comfy
pick one, taffer

Exact same, I played the living fuck out of this game at launch and I can't even get through the tutorial without uninstalling

I've been doing a playthrough recently as well, and am about 30 hours in. Not sure what to tell you user, it's easy to get over the dated mechanics if you give them a chance beyond just the start of the game.
The atmosphere and quests are so godly in this game it's easy to overlook everything else once you're used to it.

you made a house mod, right?

Is it the comfiest devsroom ever?

Jeremy Soule, the composer, had a tragic, near death car crash before he made the music from Oblivion, he survived the crash, but apparently was so close to death that it was beyond insane that he survived. When he recovered back to health, he has gone on record to saying that he didn't plan out the music, as you do, he went into the room, sat down, and just MADE it, put it on sheet, had them play it, and he just knew. He knew what to do, he knew what he had to do, and he knew exactly how to do it. He to this day doesn't know what it was, but only coming that close to death made him create this soundtrack.

Hate the game all you want, but the music, is quite genuinely, "death touched" it is the definition, of soul. You may even say, that it has true, unironic, soule

Attached: Soule.png (748x374, 548K)

The DLC areas in this game are maximum comfy. Personal fave is priory of the nine, nothing better than chilling and planning your next moves while your order socializes/trains in the background.

Attached: priory.png (1988x1267, 3.19M)

oh yeah, I definitely remember something like that, I really should get to play this game again, thanks for this

I listen to that symphonic variations video all the time while working, top tier stuff user.

Don’t fast travel

>new elder scrolls doesn't have Jeremy soule making the music apparently
>new elder scrolls is LITTERALLY souleless

Hard to top Dunbarrow Cave tho

Jauffre would be the one to know.

He lives quitely as a monk at Weynon Priory... near the city of Chorrol.

I will say this about oblivion, it is kino, however, it has one of the WORST, worst intros, of all time. It is the literal KILLER of replaying it. Every fucking time I try to replay I force my self through the sewer. it's a shame because when you do, the game is god tier and opens up, but the sewer on replay is literal hell

>Skyrim
>not Solitude

everybody shut the fuck up

Is there a mod to make Oblivion's cities bigger?

pure speculation since music is often the last thing done so beth havent hired him yet.

It only takes about 10-15 minutes, I actually prefer it to Skyrim's opening (though that may be because it's been memed into the ground).
still though, nothing more kino than waking up on the boat in morrowind.

wow, it's been a long time since i played skyrim. thanks for the memory user.

Any high res wallpapers like this?

>oblivion’s intro kills any chance of roleplaying

I wish I had the picture, but he came out on facebook and publically spoke about it, and said the opposite of what you just said user. In fact, it's the FIRST thing they do, and that's how he knows he probably hasn't be rehired for the job, and is sad to see elder scrolls go, because he loves it so much. He also did say in another post that he only does music for VR games now, because he believes "they are the future" so who fucking knows

patrician move is to make a save file right at the end of the sewers (right before your last chance to change your character), than forget the tutorial exists.

Where in the game is this?

Any news from the other provinces?

Cheydinhal, probably my personal favorite city in the game.

>not using a "live another life" mod that allows different starts and can even turn off the main quest completely so you don't have to be the hero if you don't want to

I don't know you and I don't care to know you

Never played Oblivion but the animations/clunky UI put me off. It's one of those games you'd rather watch others play.

I love, love the athletic ability in oblivion. It made it feel that every time you jumped, you were getting rewarded. No idea why they got rid of that

y’boi here

honest to god wtf were they thinking with glass and daedric being commonplace armors

Aw, nothing like getting jumped by a band of bandits wearing $5K+ armors.
I supposed if you were truly autistic you could headcanon the fact that the oblivion invasion may have led to a higher availability of daedric materials. but that'd be pushing it i think.

AGHGEC body mod

top lel

Just started playing this again bros, using no mods except OOO and the darnified UI. I'm having an absolute blast, its so much more fun than Skyrim, and much comfier too.

>Chorrol
>comfy
>when Hackdirt is nearby
Hell to the no
to the no no no

my nigga, rediscovering this game after 10 years has been some of the most fun i've had with vidya in years.

venice smells just fine

>comparing riften to venice
bruh. guaranteed riften smells like downtown new orleans.

ima give 20$ to the first one that shoots me VERY near the heart

My go to comfy spot is the Imperial Bridge inn, I like to roleplay that my character has a crush on the waitress there but he's too much of a beta to act on it so he sits in the pub drinking pints and tries to pluck up the courage to talk to her, but never does because of the imperial soldier and the other guy who are regulars.

I don't know anything about modern day Venice's plumbing and waste water management but I assume they try to prevent their shit from directly coming into contact with the water in their canals.

going for the realism run, I see.
sounds comfy at any rate.

Find a flaw.

Attached: The_Bloated_Float.png (1634x1048, 2.35M)

That quest is kino as fuck

I loved fucking around and causing bar fights in there

Anything that rebalances the awful level scaling. I don't know what's in vogue these days, but I used OOO back in the day.

It would be as there was no way a common bandit would be able to beat shit like high level dremora humanoids accompanied by all types of shit like the Xivilai

Looting the remains of oblivion gate attack sites always works, you don't need to be the one to kill it.

Adding to this I've had a few bandits engage with
a Daedroth near an oblivion portal and they got absolutely owned. I think this was during mid game with level scaling.

guess if you go that far it's not impossible. But still.

>Do this quest
>Scared of open water

Attached: IscCxIk.gif (200x242, 866K)

God damn Oblivion quests were genius.

Meanwhile in skyrim the only quest that has you board a boat and go into a random area in the middle of the ocean outside the regular map of the game just has you raid yet another bandit tower except this time it's on a small island.

Skyrim had proper 3D trees while Oblivion's foliage consisted of a bunch of 2D sprites that would rotate around to always face you

It looks nice from a distance I guess. It also couldn't throw proper shadows, all tree shadows in Oblivion were just these random big shadowy blobs moving in circles underneath the trees.

Oblivion side quests in general were pretty damn good, I still occasionally boot up the game just to play around with the Whodunnit? quest

Oblivion isn't objectively shitty but it does have a bunch of flaws, some that you can mod out but others that you simply have to tolerate.

It's still the number one game that I keep wanting to go back to, but I lost my modded install and can't be assed to do it again. Plus it's so fucking unstable and unoptimized.

Bravil is a fucking dump.

>Skyrim had proper 3D trees
If you can call this proper 3D.

That's a great mod. Even the emperor is alive and you can visit him in the White Gold tower.

Same. I hate preset backstories/personalities. In Skyrim there's also Skyrim Unbound mod which is much better than Live Another Life in my opinion since it allows you to completely opt out of being Dragonborn. You don't even absorb dragon souls when you kill them nor do you automatically read dragon walls. It also allows you to complete the Civil War as well as purchase the house in Whiterun without the main quest. Great for roleplaying.

Attached: 36731420-1532202983.jpg (1921x1080, 1.18M)

>Even the emperor is alive and you can visit him in the White Gold tower
It also syncs with Kvatch Rebuilt so you can visit that city before the Mehrunes invasion.

I used to play with a simpler mod called something like "you are not the dragonborn".
Sometimes you just wanna be a qt huntress in the wilderness trying to survive.

Attached: TESV 2015-08-29 00-58-29-29.jpg (1920x1080, 252K)

Oblivion was such a comfy game

>you are not the dragonborn
Yes I heard about it. I personally used to play it with Live another Life + In Your Shadow + Immediate Dragons but then I just switched to Skyrim Unbound because it does what all those three mods offer better.

Check out a mod called Alternative Beginnings. It's by the same guy that made the Alternate Start mod for Skyrim.

true kino

If you're a fan of his music check out Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 soundtracks. He made them and they really sound amazing. Familiar to Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim yet still fresh. I usually mod them in Skyrim/Oblivion when I play.

Don't be a bitch. I've posted my New Vegas house mod for people here a bunch of times.

Yeah don't be a bitch

I always liked hanging out at the Inn of Ill Omen. Basement rooms are fucking comfy. Same reason the Bruma Mages guild is so cozy.

Bruma house also has a bedroom in the ground. Helps with warmth.

Why did Skyrim inns feel so fucking homogeneous? Every inn outside of a major city felt like the same thing except with different names inside.

Same reason why every village felt homogeneous. Laziness.

I hate the way inns work in ES games. Let me pay to rent it for like a week and use the storage in my room without it counting as stealing, god dammit.

use google you lazy cunt

I hear the theme.
