Nope. Magikarp fell out of a busted fish tank and pikachu kicked it to get it to evolve and beat charizard. It was done as a joke way to end a conflict.

user I saw an advanced screening two days ago and no it is not pretty good. I wanted to like it but jesus christ it has severe structural issues. It is poorly written and poorly acted. The best part about it were the little snippets of examining Pokemon integration into society. Make a movie about that instead.
