Why are all mahjong online games just "find the pairs in this pyramid of mahjong pieces"?

Simple rule of thumb
2-8 of any type is simple, only have simple and easy yaku
any of the dragons (red thingy, green thingy, blank tile) you get 3, its a yaku.
every grouping has a 1 or a 9, or an honor tile (dragons or the winds) and thats a yaku

try to go for those as a beginner, all simples is extremely easy to pull off.
Chi is sequentials, unless you have a yaku from another way, they're more or less going to screw you as a beginner, i wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're going for.

Pon is also gonna screw you usually, unless you get all triplets. Go ahead and pon the dragons though.

I just watched the first episode of saki and they explained that those weird red tile are only in east round. So in south round they are replaced by normal tile (in both east and south ofc) . Is this how it is? I always thought the red one are just some current dora or some shit but they are some kind of bonus tiles instead?

Got a sanbaiman in one of my first games with lesbian level uradora. Actually had to review the game later because I had next to no idea what the fuck was going on when I actually got it.

It's painfully obvious with two pons, even one pon you have to be wary of discards. Thus you either get those specific concealed sets with maybe one pon or you won't get your daisangen except on new people. If you pon twice you only need a pair which is much easier even one discard. And with two still have a chance so of course its not nearly as worth

Normally you wouldn't show your dora triplet because a whole table would gang up on the person: chii guy would completely shut off all the feeding and the rest of the two would speed up making a 1k hand. Now how it would go: everyone would be suspicious of everyone nobody would open the hand and nobody would riichi until someone lands a damapinfu or the ton guy draws his tsumo OR the ton guy still exposes himself by making some shitty chii and people would breath out and rush for a 1k hand. Now how this table went is probably everyone gathering their important slow shit and someone deals into the ton bomb.

You can't "solve" mahjong, tard

There are definitely times where you don't want to riichi. If it's pretty late in the round, a riichi could actually hurt you because now you're just advertising a fuckload of tiles that everyone can use to stall you out if they aren't confident they'll finish their hand. Early to mid-round is often the best time to riichi because your opponents have less to gauge your wait on.

For me it's quite the opposite actually. If I lose or do shit it's either because I'm making mistake or it's just bad luck. There's no other factors.
If it's lag, a stupid teammate, some stupid mechanic being annoying then it gets me mad to no end.
Mahjong is pure chill for me. If I deal into someones hand I either have myself to blame for dealing an unsafe tile or I just got unlucky. But neither piss me off. If I suck, just stay focused and improve. If I get unlucky, keep going and the luck will turn to your favour.
If I make a movement error in Quake Champions because the game stutters from shit netcode and terrible optimization, or if I miss my shots in Counter Strike because of dumb ass spray pattern bullshit, I get mad as fuck.

"Tenpai" waiting on a fifth tile is different to karaten and usually it's considered noten. Tenhou allows it as tenpai in certain cases (but not all, I believe) due to lazy programming.

Is that really standard? We do that a lot in my group but it's because we're all new and we all don't really give a fuck. Often we'll have that player set that tile aside for his next draw and then just have the new next drawer take the next tile instead.
We knock the wall over half the time and just go "oh well" and put it back and keep playing

Anyways if you ever play irl, especially if it's with a club and they know you're new, people will wait a second or two before drawing after a discard. If you're playing with friends you really don't have to worry because anything goes, just have a good time

I don't care about irl tournaments because I'm not living in the capital and it's expensive to ride all the way here but the rules specifically state to draw slower. In my club everyone just draws fast because they just want to fit more hanchans into one meeting and so everyone is ok with giving up on the tile if someone pons.

Depends on the setting. For example in European tournament rules pon always takes precedence over chi, call can be made until the next player takes a tile from the wall but intentionally drawing as fast as possible is subject to penalty.
