Why is Dragon Quest 7 PS1 considered one of the longest JRPGs ever made?
Why is Dragon Quest 7 PS1 considered one of the longest JRPGs ever made?
Because it's fucking long, what kind of dumbass question is that
Please don't be mean...
If it's so long why can I hold it with only one of my small hands?
If a trick exists to pad out an RPG's length, this game does it.
How long is it?
What kind of tricks we talking here?
I think about nearly 100 hours on a single playthrough if you are doing grinding but you can beat it at around 40-50 if you just cheat to have max levels.
here's my final save file
How do I get into Dragon Quest, Yea Forums?
Zenithian trilogy
are any of the DQ games worth picking up on mobile? I heard they butchered DQ8 on mobile, so I've been hesitant to check out the other ones
Because it's a massive slog, well, the original version is at least.
>only 100 hours
eh, I spent longer fucking around in persona 5
III or VIII are good starting points. If you like them, play V, it's kino and I'm not even being ironic.
Do you read at an elementary school level?
If you were only going to play one then play 5
You have to play the barebones 1 then go to two and three to see how much development the studio goes through.
DQVII isn't quite as impressive nowadays in terms of length. The original is around 100 hours bare minimum if you do minimal grinding and skip over doing any sidequests. It stood head and shoulders above any other JRPG to date back in 2000, but almost 20 years later it's not as distinguished.
3 4 or 5 are all good starting options. 6 and 9 are also pretty great.
>115 hours
jesus christ is this just completing the main storyline without doing a ton of side quests/fucking around
Keep in mind that it's a PS1 game. Most JRPGs back then were usually only 30-ish hours long, minus bonus stuff.
It's long, but it's also really fucking slow with lots of tedious backtracking, slow combat, and potential for grinding. The 3DS remake shows that once you smooth out a lot of the bullshit that there isn't really more content than most other JRPGs of the era.
Probably so, because I almost never do sidequests and my final time was around the same. The game took me years of on and off playing to beat. I got it in 2002 for my 15th birthday and beat it in 2007 a few months away from 20.
There's not much side stuff to do, just 2 extra dungeons and a town to build.
Unless you think spending hours grinding for all the classes is fun.
literally at least 70 hours
IV’s best version is the mobile one
I-III are all based on the SNES versions, IV-VI are all based on the DS versions. There are some changes but very minor stuff, except III which removed the Pachislot minigame for no good reason.
By being below the handicap person
That's nice, go spout your speedread nonsense in Yea Forums and be laughed at.
It ends like 4 fucking times, and then the true True TRUE TRUEEEE boss appears
>implying I give a single shit what those bandwagoning seasonal shitters think
damn I've beaten all of them up to 6 I think plus monster 1&2 been meaning to play 7-9 since its been in my backlog forever
but 100+ hours is one hell of a slog for just the main story
The 3DS remake supposedly cuts down hard on most of the the fluff
>Moe characters didn't exist until the 2000s and 2010s
Fuck I wanted to start playing SMT but this picture makes a compelling case.
neither of those are considered "moe" well wait maybe whats her face qt3.14 android is moe
3ds has faster battles and cuts down on the opening. Everything else is still around.
>I think about nearly 100 hours
If you're a speedrunner maybe. Now I leave unpausable games to idle a lot while I go and piss or make food, whatever, but I distincly remember my save being 180+ hours. No secret dungeons, just the main game. I can't imagine more than 20 of those hours were idling.
I've only played the 3ds version but the opening was still around 2 hours before the first combat of the game. It was originally even longer? What the fuck?
>Opinions on top of opinions on top of opinions
Wow what a great case for this bogstandard series
Still, moe has existed since at least 1984
Not by too much. The PS1 version took about three hours to reach the first battle.
>the opening was still around 2 hours before the first combat of the game
wut
do you have to read 50 pages of dialog before you leave town and enter the very first random encounter to kill a slim?
i shit you not it was even longer
You have a lot of cutscenes and the world you start out in is peaceful. The PS1 version also has an entire dungeon but with no enemies.
Take a wild guess you dumbass.
????
Why not? SMT is pretty neat too.
It might have bumped up the ESRB rating due to gambling.
Just play DQV and then SMT IV
I got to the desert in 3 and just can't find the motivation to play it again
Is III your only DQ game or have you played others?
The stories told in 7 are by far the most memorable and poignant of the series. 7 isn't the best DQ just because it's crazy long.
I beat the main story in 9 but didn't do many grottos
Someday you might want to try a different party. It's so replayable I'm on my fifth playthrough and I'm further than you. I admit I'm playing the gameboy version though, which makes me feel like it's 1998 again.
How's the translation for IV mobile?
Heard the ds one was pretty bad
Well if you can't finish it you could maybe try some of the other games as shown in . IV and V are solid games.
It's the same translation, mobile just have party chat, which isn't even such a great highlight, but autismos will sperg about it anyway.
You know how you just go get the weapons from altars at the start of the game? There was a huge dungeon with lots of puzzles originally.
Imagine playing skyrim but having to do 20 mandatory radiant quest after completing a single main quest mission. That is pretty much why Dragon Quest 7 is considered one of the longest
Cool gunship
that sounds fucking disgusting
Every localization after 8 and before 11 is pure garbage.
>inb4 "the Japanese versions were the same"
No, there's a world of difference. The Japanese version used puns for monster names and sometimes character names. Otherwise, the Dragon Quest games' dialogue tends to be no different in style from any other JRPG. It would be like if someone said that a Dragon Ball Z dub where every third line of dialogue was a pun was a faithful translation because Toriyama enjoyed naming characters punny stuff.
>III is a prequel to I and II
What. I need to finish III now and see how this is possible.
It's probably the most famous of all 8-bit plot twists alongside 'Samus is a girl.'
Thread should've ended here.
>considered one of the longest JRPGs ever made
Hmm, if only we had some way of quantifying longevity of a game... if only there was some unit of measurement that we could apply to figure out which games are longer than others... we really should get our finest scientists on the case!
yeah but in DQ7 things actually happen.
Don't play any of the ones from 8 onwards as they all have god awful translations. Especially 11 and the DS remakes
Nothing happens in DQ7 until 50 hours into the game when you accidentally bump into a magic tribe trying to brig back God.
Until then it's just a bunch of disjointed, self-contained quests.
retard
Maybe you shouldn't make affirmations about a game you clearly didn't play, user.
>3ds version of 7
>100 plus hours in
>side tracked by everything else and extras
>Not ended yet
I'm riding a magic flying rock in the sky, so i think i'm close to the end?
retard
DQ7 took me 76 hours to beat on 3DS
I think you have 20 or more hours to go my dude, did you release all the elemental spirits?
Holy shit how are you not spoiled
Especially with all of the Smash Retards around now
>Actually clicking those threads
Not everyone hate themselves.
shit, i don't remember. I'm picking it back up soon and all i remember was going into the sky/heaven and seeing more story unfold. I love this version, there's so much content and the music kicks ass
Mandatory fetch quests
Backtracking with slow walking speed
No quick travel
Grinding required to progress
Unskippable cutscenes
Unskippable dialogue
Overly long and common random encounters
Please don't be rude
Because ita long a sturdy, like timber.
For someone who's only played the DS version of DQ5 (enjoyed it), how does 7 hold up? PS1 or 3DS? I actually could use a new JRPG fix.
I'd seriously recommend you to play IV or VIII first, and then, only if you wish those games were 3x longer, play VII.
