The real reason Bandana Dee will never be in Smash: Sakurai hates how Return to Dream Land uses the main characters. Meta Knight and King Dedede are not supposed to be Kirby's buddies, they are his rivals. Smash still characterizes Meta Knight as an edgy villain and Dedede as a completely arrogant asshole, neither of which prefer to join Kirby, all of which Return to Dream Land chose to forgo entirely. Bandana Dee being added to Smash as the fourth Kirby character would validate Return to Dream Land and therefore ruin the dynamic the main three share in Sakurai's vision of the series.

I think Adeleine would be perfect for Smash but I'd have no complaints if we got Dark Matter, I'm a pretty big fan of the character.
