Pretty much but I doubt you'll have much luck finding people this late in the expansion. Don't get discouraged though there will be a ton of parties to join in 5.0 for Eden. The first 2 fights of any given savage tier are easily puggable, you don't really start to run into trouble until fight 3.

That only matters if you're switching to a gear set with empty slots or are unequipping a set with a shield and have a full shield slot.

You know what it is? When I used the recommended gear option when DRK hit 70 it equipped the rings in the opposite slots, and because the game is fucking retarded it requires the extra inventory space for unequipping them to switch them instead of just swapping straight across like normal.

To level 50 it helps, the expansions have tended to have more quests than I can even use though. Even now I'm still trying to clear out the level 67+ quests from Stormblood.

Learning mechanics of fights as a tank either takes trial and error or the help of other knowledgeable people. Just imagine how tank mains feel when new duties are released (probably excited but likely stressed for not knowing how to lead the party). Tanks are the leaders and pioneers of any classical party.

SB was a major step down from HW and the only good addition it brought were the ultimate fights

1. Don't entertain thoughts like "I have performance anxiety, I will mess up." It's self perpetuating.

24-man raid series were probably the best of the game, although Dun Scaith is still the best individual raid

8-man raids started with cool fights and shit story, ended with shit fights and cool story. Overall average

Ultimate was a good addition

Eureka was a shit addition. I like the concept behind it but the execution was bad.

Story had it's good moments but suffered from bad pacing and plot. The ending was so shit that it was as if they were trying to kill Shadowbringers hype

For boss fights, save mitigation for tank busters if the fight is heavy on them.

Trial and error. If you get hit by one you usually wont die but just be left low on health. Identify what the tank buster is, then mitigate accordingly.

Stay in tank stance as long as you like until you're comfortable. Typically tanks will do a large enmity dump on pull in their tank stance, and then swap to DPS stance and expect DPS players to use Diversion.

Your job is to just keep the boss positioned properly, and to not die. If the party explodes then there isn't much you can do.

You'll be overgeared for that trial, and mechanics that were once lethal are now not so lethal. Again, just trial and error it.

The secret to tanking is that once upon a time every tank player had no clue what they were doing. The super confident tanks just pretend they know what they're doing, when in reality they're just as clueless as you are.
Your best bet is to just leave tank stance on and play it safe. No-one will fault you for that if you're inexperienced.

I didn't play it really, just subbed here and there. Did no Eureka and no savages/extremes at all this expac, don't have a static or an FC. Pretty depressing honestly.

If this your first character is recommended either Marauder or Gladiator since they are tanks and have instant ques which help make the story go faster.

When it comes to FFXIV I have no preference really but if other MMOs help in WoW I mained mostly Rogue and Mage and in Ragnarok Online I mained Sage, Stalker and Creator.

You stress too much if you're talking for normal difficulty, you just learn them on the go just like a dps. I don't remember normal difficulty ever needing a tank swap.

Not that hard to be honest. However, many parties are guilty of over pulling and tank being too far from healer, or brazenly walking into a trap which silences someone. Also on floor 41-50 the succubus can hit you with dark mist which will prevent you from taking actions. For the boss, she will be able to 1 shot your party of people get hit by her aoe's 5 times, as the runes on the floor will light up each time someone is hit, causing the bloody rain to do too much damage.

My friends are trying to get me to play this game and I hate every moment of this shit. I'm level 26 and I've just started skipping past all the dumbass dialogue in an attempt to power through but I'm fading fast. They keep telling me it gets better at 40+ and it's an entirely different game at endgame, do I tough it out? I want to cancel so bad.

In 26 levels I haven't had a meaningful interaction with another player. I'm a WoWbabby and while I'm definitely not going to defend the game, my greatest enjoyment of MMO's are player created experiences, which (on a PVP server at least) WoW had in spades.

My rotation is super boring but I know that's because I'm low level.

I hate how everyone looks like a cosplayer and seeing pink-haired catgirl versions of Cloud/Squall/Noctis is getting old.

I think the point where I came closest to uninstalling was when Thancred showed up late to a quest, did an anime flip over my head and tossed kunai into the neck of an Amal'jaa, all presented without a hint of irony. Honorable mention to being called a shitebreath tosser by a Lalafell NPC.

Story's better later on, but it sounds like the game's not gonna give you what you're looking for. You have to go way out of your way to find player interaction in this game, it's the themeparkiest game ever.

I don't know shit about Garo and I don't really care for how the armor sets or mounts look but the weapons are for the most part pretty cool and frankly I wouldn't mind having the option to call myself a "Makai Scholar" or "Makai Black Mage" and as such I've been doing some Frontlines roulette lately. PvP is one hell of a trainwreck with uncoordinated randoms.

Ramuh Ex is easy shit as a Scholar, just pick up the glowy thingies for Surge Protection to avoid getting gibbed and go to town while the fairy heals you. I've done the fight multiple times *without* caring about the orbs mechanic, just spamming heavy heals through his tankbusters

Spam Palace of the Dead Floors 51-60. At your current level you'll get around 650k exp every 10-15 minutes depending on how shit your party and luck are. Would be roughly the same exp/hour as just spamming dungeons, but PotD queues are basically instant so they are the preferred way of leveling DPS jobs up to 60 where you just do roulettes for a level and then do Heaven-on-High until cap once you hit 61.

Stormblood brought in a lot of really nice and desperately needed quality of life changes and also had some really fun and unique dungeons and trials. A good deal of the primals and raids are some of the best in the game. Mechanically and gameplay-wise it's a blast.
But the story is an absolute bore that feels like it's just mindlessly floundering around and being pulled on a leash by Lyse until you fight Shinryu, most of the characters are poorly developed and some (Fordola) just forgotten about completely, and Zenos is a pretty lame and generic villain. The patch content also suffers and is mostly also a slog, but instead of MUH POWER, it focuses way too long on the incredibly forced Yotsuyu melodrama that tarnished my appreciation for Gosetsu, one of the only good characters in the expansion. Stormblood as a story didn't get good until 4.4 and by then it was already on its way out. Despite featuring the liberation of TWO major locations in the world as well as a straight up declaration of full-on warfare with Garlemald, Stormblood ended up feeling to me like a filler expansion that only really serves to waste time setting up for Shadowbringers. My favorite part of Stormblood's story was waking up back in Ishgard at the very very end to see my true bros Aymeric, Estinien and Edmont are still the ones that care the most out of anyone about me and my story instead of dragging me through their own problems constantly.

Considering WHM stayed irrelevant for basically 75% of the expansion because Square Enix can't put the foot down when SCH/AST babbies cry on reddit about not being blatantly overpowered and broken? And then they put healing infirmity mechanics into raids so you'd be doing less healing through spells but not abilities. And that's precisely where a great deal of AST/SCH healing output comes. Between balance and fight design they just made it a no brainer to pick nothing but AST/SCH. Take a look at the parsing ranking site for FFXIV and notice how literally 90% of the healing teams in the top 100 are AST/SCH.

I think a lot of what makes SB shitty and bland is it's an extremely straight forward plain war arc that they try to dress up by making Zenos into some Dragon Ball ass over 9000 motherfucker.

Like ARR the Garleans aren't even a major consideration for much of the story even though they have a lot more presence on the world map than the territories they supposedly occupy because woops we can't make them world mobs if they're going to leave. Instead of you have major serious arcs around very fantasy elements like beast tribes and primals (a lot of them in 2.x as well) and somewhat less dragging Ascian stuff, which contrasts with more realistic dungeons and stuff to give you variety and interest and shit. Stormblood is just straight up a bunch of filler between instanced battlefields in wrecked empty shit holes. The primal fights just happen out of fucking nowhere, the second one is especially hilariously devoid of any setup or build up.

Heavensward especially just about works as its own stand alone Final Fantasy game, most of Stormblood is outright analogous to the first half of one before the real villain reveals themselves but stretched out over like 90 hours by the time 4.5 happened.

Eureka was an amazing addition with near flawless execution. The only problem was the light grind if you were trying to make more than one weapon. I am more excited for the next Eureka than all of the dungeons, raids and trials added together then multiplied by 1000. Having content that is separate from the boring endgame "mmo" progression is what this game needs more than anything else.

Been playing this game for five years, this shit happens way too often. Something in their RNG is either fucked or they're just plain lying on purpose, and I believe my sample size of tens of thousands of gathers is enough to rule out "Well you just remember the bad times more" or whatever. It's okay as some alternate progression since the game is so bereft of grind otherwise, but it really needed something more than "grind these fates/mobs until you can make the shiny weapon". Every zone needed it's own form of BA, maybe not quite as involved, but at least SOMETHING to work towards that's separate from the level/light grind.

Yeah, getting to the boss might be kind of annoying on a DPS job if your Aethergear level isn't all that high, but Edda herself is easy as shit if you remember to use your self heals and potentially carry a few Potions with you for emergencies.
If you are doing it on a healer or tank it's trivial.

Oh yes. Takes a bit longer to do. But a lot of bosses are fairly easy up to that point, including Edda. As long as she doesn't gain any runes, her attacks are quite weak. Some people even go up to 200 by themselves. I have been trying it myself, but highest I've gone is 173 due to dying.

Every single time at least two people couldn't look away from from cold feet repeatedly and got blown up, and then either me, or me and the other non-tard can't do enough damage to not get worn down because healers don't exist in potd and she still has 80% of her health. Eventually killed her because one of the non-tards was a tank and we outlasted her.

Only time I wasn't the last one to die was in a 4 dps party where I went into the fight already dying of aids. It was awful.

get 18k wolf marks. It'll take a bit, but not too long. That's a whole gearset for one class. Whole gearset means you can get a title. Use the title when getting wins in feast/frontlines.
Get 10 wins in frontlines, and another 50 in feast, and you'll wind up with all 3 mounts.
