What do you think of Arthur?
What do you think of Arthur?
the ideal white male
Unironically the one redeeming thing about this. Game is massively overrated but his arc, the house acting, the facial animations: really great stuff.
Absolute lad
>I was a shit person all the time who killed thousands, but because I will die I am a SJW now
shit character
Based character hated by brainlets.
The game is about REDEMPTION. hm imagine that.
Rockstar's best character unironically
You know my question.
And be honest.
WELL ILL CATCH UP WITH YOU LATER
I had less fun when he got all sicky.
Unironically i never made this connection. Im stupid
>for all my life I killed and robbed anyone
>oh no I will die in one month
>ok lets be a sjw
>save my piece of shit friend too who killed and robbed all the time without hesitation
>huurraaay THIS is my REDEMPTION
Yeah.
not him but its bad writing, there should of been an ending where he doesnt get redemption (if youre low honor in the last 3 tiers) because i went on numerous genocides during chapter 4 and 6 yet because of the story, arthur is forced to be a holy saint and win in the end
>forced to be a holy saint and win in the end
You only played 1 ending confirmed.
Legit one of the best video game protagonists of all time but Yea Forums will never admit it
I admit it.
My personal list
>Master Chef
>Sam Fisher
>Arthur
>Niko Belic
>arthur is forced to be a holy saint and win in the end
arthur dies helping john get away
(2 where you attempt to get the money to help john after escorting him)
thats all the endings
Whats that have to do with him being an sjw?
Arthur CAN die helping john get away.
Arthur can also die because he puts the money over helping john and goes back to get it.
There were plenty of choices you could make in the game to make Arthur redeemable or not and there were plenty of points thats reflect that.
idk i wasnt the guy complaining about him being an sjw
i dont remember any choices during chapter 6 (canonically where he starts redeeming himself) that make him nonredeemable, there was a strauss mission that made you: leave, leave and give money. and i dont consider him going for the money nonredeemable but thats just me
Arthur shows signs of being unhappy with the trajectory his life is headed in from the beginning.
The start of the story hinges on the reason why they were fleeing from their original campsite. They lost a few people in a heist and Dutch shot an innocent woman. The start of Arthur's doubt in Dutch.
By the time you make it to Mary's Valentine home and go through 3 of her missions. Arthur's already wondering whether or not he's making the right choice with his life because a life with Mary seems significantly more lucrative.
Nothing was about him being an SJW. Everything was about him trying to make sure his group was set before he found a way to leave.
I did not vote for him!
I wanted to buy this game months ago but I keep postponing it.
I just don't have the energy for open world games anymore.
The barfight where you punch that guy retarded is KINO
Reminds me of my mate leon desu lad
>I am a SJW now
How does telling his friends to leave the gang and not trust Dutch or Micah make him an sjw
Bertram like sherry
This.
Dutch became a sociopath. Micah was a racist psychopath and a traitorous snake that contributed to the loss of life and downfall of Dutch's gang
I mean other than literally leaving john to go back for the money, I can't exactly remember the story beats - but arthur doesn't stop being arthur after a cutscene/story mission so if you are "forced" to do a good deed, but then you spend the next 2 hours just killing strangers while out and about, you're still unredeemable. The vast majority of stuff that swings your honour meter is non-story actions you take, which is the major factor in if you get the good or bad ending
I don't care that Micah was racist I care that he was Grima Wormtongue and significantly contributed to Dutch losing his way
Post big boys
yeah i dont like that conflict of gameplay and story, because the game railroads you into getting redemption as per the the title, but your actions outside the story can undermine the entire theme. and the honor meter hardly makes a difference in what ending you get
>I killed equally shitty people in a lawless society to survive and keep my only family safe, but because I want to use my last days alive helping those same people get out of the life we live due to the man who has been effectively my father going down a dark path I am an SJW now.
Regardless of if your arthur was a scumbag or honourable, he only ever truly gave a shit about helping those close to him/the truly innocent. May as well call your parent's SJWs for caring about you.
HAS ANYONE SEEN GAVIN
yes because he died
No idea, I don't play AAA vidya anymore because it's all so bad.
Arthur's redemption, atleast in his eyes, is making sure the gang is safe and able to live good lives after he's gone. Everything else he does isn't what he thinks will redeem him, but in the end it ultimately is and he learns that through dying through acceptance (a man at peace) or by being murdered (a sinner killed by a sinner).
Who decided that our "authentic cowboy" needed to spout Obama-era opinions on everything?
Completely killed the immersion for me, he had the same progressive talking points as a New York Liberal Arts graduate.
Yes. I would.
Such as?
i guess youre right, that settles my gripe with the story. thanks for enlightening me
>"shucks, If a man could be president I reckon a woman could do a better job"
>"I think colored fellers are superior to us white folk, it's their turn to have a go at things"
>"them Jews are good people. Hell, I'd do anything to fight and die for Israel"
The last one really got to me. The writers didn't know Israel was founded well after WWII.
Dutch, I insist
So you have to make things up to make a point? Cringe.
>ywn beat the shit out of a tard in a bar
>ywn fuck Abigail
>ywn be friends with Arthur
Very handsome, ideal cowboy bf
>Wanting to fuck Abigail and not mary beth
Get out of here deadweight.
>Aw hell Javier, I reckon them antifa fellers is just fightin back against a neofascist system of oppression. If'n we wanna call ourselves men, seems only right to me that we join their ranks against the nazis
Really Rockstar?
>There are people alive today who played arthur clean-shaven
I thought that Yea Forums would love this game since you can punch feminists, deport mexicans, and kill all niggers. Guess I was wrong
>Cheer Arthur on when he's beating the guy retarded
>Find the beaten-retarded guy later while drinking with Lenny
>He's slowly eating soup and mumbling
>Arthur talks to him
>He just keeps mumbling incoherently
>Feel bad
Clean shaven, long hair all day every day
Yea Forums isnt allowed to like this game as its not on pc or nintendo
>tfw kind of want to play this again to 100% it
>tfw remember all those challenges and they patched out the New Austin early glitch
Length 0 chops and beard, length 10 spartan moustache
>"Now Dutch, I insist - allowin' mary to engage in sexual relations with other men is empowerin' her as a woman!"
Maybe he meant extra clean shaven where he has absolutely nothing?
>beat a man until retardation
Ah yes...
>rob a train full of old people
I guess this truly was...
>slaughter hundreds of cops and soldiers
My Red Dead...
>slaughter the male population of strawberry
Redemption
But Abigail is for fucking and Mary Beth is for marrying, user
>evil rootin tootin cowboy who shamelessly robs people blind and kills without remorse
>but don't you dare be rayciss in front of him pardner
Massive unkempt beard Arthurs are the worst.
What part are you referring to?
God, I miss those threads.
>Mary Beth is for marrying
Why not both?
Dutch is a faggot and he essentially raised Arthur, makes sense.
>western game
>mostly takes part in louisiana
????????????
I would have liked him more if I could play as him in the epilogue instead of a dead-man-walking manlet who looks 20x worse in outfits than Arthur
>reeeeee why doesn't arthur call lenny a nigger
>He didn't give Arthur a stache
this but unironically
Blackwater. Home.
It's underrated.
It takes place all over the eastern US, Ambarino is an analogue for Colorado and the Rockies, Roanoke Ridge is an analogue for the Appalachians, etc
tfw no hosea
I like you mister, you have a kind face.
Arthur isn't evil. He's a man who does bad things for the greater good of those he cares about, in a time when everyone else is doing the exact same thing. What he does isn't even that bad if you consider every time he has to kill someone/people, they are trying to kill him too. Him not being racist is because he's lived a life that would teach anyone that background/what you look like means fuck all in regards to who you are as a person.
The good ending is the canon ending, which means honourable arthur is canon. The bad ending only exists to give zoomers who played the game like gta the middle finger.
>arthur arbitrarily decides he has a hardon for John halfway through the game and he's the one that really needs saving and fuck the others
He's the only one with a wife and child
The term you're looking for is anti-hero. A common trope of westerns.
I couldn't stop laughing when you're running around the ranch as John in his sleepwear and you see how fucking lanky he is.
>Arthur isn't evil
kek keep telling yourself that
>shoots random people in thiefing heists
>genocides policemen, civilian guards and outlaws alike
>beats the shit out of debtors to get cash out of them
>not evil
Arthur is an evil man whom the game allows you to redeem. The game is literally called red dead REDEMPTION for a reason you retarded nigger. There's a redemption arc from your previous life.
I think it was more for the sake of Abigail and Jack. When Arthur still disliked John part of the reason was because he was such a prick to his family. Arthur clearly has a soft spot for them.
I wouldn't say he's evil, Dutch just got his claws in deep when he was young and impressionable and was able to mould him into the perfect thug.
he's the only one out of them all that has something resembling the foundation of a normal life through his son and wife, and part of him and arthur's relationship is arthur realising why john did the things he did and getting over his grudge.
are there games (or movies) with an evil protagonist
This. His journal is always full of regret about what he has to do, even before the diagnosis.
Rockstar really hit gold with the journal. Give Arthur even more depth.
The ends justify the means, brainlet.
Well his relationship with John started improving after Jack gets grabbed and John tries to be a better father and bf. I imagine most of his resentment came from how John had a women who cared for him and a child to take care of but neglected them, and Arthur had and lost both.
Hatred
You only do any of that if you specifically go out of your way to make him evil.
You do bad things like rob people as part of the story but the only time you kill innocent people is if you yourself as the player chose to do so.
His redemption is from his life up until the point he learns he's going to die, not from the atrocities you had him commit in your playthrough.
Rate my Arthur
There Will Be Blood is absolute top kino. It's even referenced in RDR1.
>genocide hundreds of o'driscolls
>genocide hundreds of lemoyne raiders, braithwites and grays
>exterminate St. Denis' police department
>kill hundreds of St. denis gangsters and Angelo henchmen
>kill hundreds of Pinkerton agents
>wipe out the capital of the murfree brood with only two people
>defeat a Cuban army on an island and a fucking battleship
>massacre a US army cavalry regiment inside and outside a fort
>turkeyshoot all of cornwall's hired guns
>"WE NEED TO KEEP RUNNING ARTHUR! THEY'LL FIND US AGAIN OVER HERE! SITUATION'S GETTING TOUGH ON US, MAYBE IT'S NOT OUR TIME ANYMORE. WE JUST NEED ONE MORE BIG SCORE!"
>People who play dishonorable Arthur
>Be nice to everyone in camp
>Except John
>Who I antagonise every time
>get furious at Arthur for breaking John out of prison because it'll bring the law down on the gang
>immediately go murder a prominent oil tycoon and get into a massive shootout with the pinkertons in Annesburg
Why was Dutch such a retard?
>go out of your way to make him evil
I don't have to. He's already a clear-cut villain. You can try to whitewash all the people you shoot as part of the story but honourable and dishonourable arthur amount to shit when it comes to his villainy, either way you play AS the villain and get the option to redeem him. The honour bar is only a mechanic that the player can use to steer the story towards the redemption arc or not, which proves my point.
arthur and the whole gang and whoever wrote this shit is retarded.
>invincible gang of 15-20 people with a KDA of 1:1000
>having to run from anyone
>there will be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
oh sorry its so boring i dozed of reading the title
He snapped in blackwater and slowly slipped into insanity throughout the entire game
Stick with capeshit.
Its an excellent film.
How is a man who kills people who try to kill him a villain when he lives in a place where killing people who try to kill you is the literal norm?
Micah is a villian, Arthur is just a outlaw who you can make good or bad.
hmmmmm....... interesting......... yes......... this 40 minute dialogue scene truly pikes my interset am i right fellow kino viewers
>everybody who sides with arthur is absent from rdr1
how convenient
>5 seconds went by ina movie without something exploding or a character making a pop-culture reference
You have to be a big boy to be able to post here
prequels were a mistake
You must be 18 to post on 4channel.
The game itself is lacking but the character of Arthur is probably rockstar's best yet.
Pretty based/10
>Not being a dishonorable Arthur, slowly shifting to Neutral then ending as a honorable Arthur
>triggered by ms paint
yikes!
For me it's giving John an old timey villain mustache
it's also Josiah Trelawny
>Dab on Molly
>Arthur mentions how he catches Dutch staring at Mary Beth
>youtube.com
Based Dutch with patrician taste
>Not being a dishonorable Arthur, slowly shifting to Neutral then ending as a honorable Arthur
But half the dishonorable stuff is just being a discount micah. Plus you can tell by how Arthur talks at the start of the game that he always had at least some morals and a sense of right a wrong, albeit from the warped point of view of a man raised by Dutch.
Though the game does love to give you dishonor for minor things like looting dead bodies you find out in the wilderness.
>Molly keeps trying to block Mary Beth until she walks over to the other side of Dutch
kek
have you ever met someone that got really religious and then started judging you? That's Arthur after getting TB. Fuck Arthur.
Hunting, Fishing, and Cowboy Dressup... The Game
t. micah
Best character in recent gaming history.
Also there's a mod for XCOM 2: steamcommunity.com
Better than hunting, fishing, and tranny dressup... the game
>tfw realized all of Dutch's speeches in camps are just the same one he did in the mountains during the intro, just worded somewhat differently
He was doing it before then, just not as much because not only was he not dying but Dutch hadn't gone completely off the deep end
I think the game intends to make Arthur’s moral status ambiguous. Does Arthur do bad stuff? Yup. Does Arthur do good stuff? Yup. The game makes it unclear whether Arthur has a good heart but does bad things, or is at his core a bad guy trying to convince himself that he’s somehow better than other outlaws by avoiding murdering innocents or that he has some kind of code. I unironically think the entire game is framed within Judge Holden’s speech to the Kid in Blood Meridian towards the end of Blood Meridian. You can’t be anything unless you fully commit to it, which Arthur does not. That is why Arthur is so torn for most of the game and also why Micah is such a strong character.
Tfw Hosea didn’t sacrifice his life fighting Micah.
Handsome
Micah was a great antagonist but I hated how nobody ever actually called him out, even at the end of the story. Arthur calls him a snake and a rat but nobody ever actually explains to Dutch what's going on and why he's a traitorous piece of shit. Even John at the end of the epilogue doesn't really say anything about it, I wanted him to point out to Dutch that he and Arthur gave Dutch 20 years of their lives and he threw it away for the sake of a creepy faggot with nasal congestion
i wish i could have played as Micah. He was actually a proper outlaw and not some pious hypocrite
Greatest protagonist in any media ever
This but unironically.
>no Micah DLC where you run around doing evil shit with Cleet and Joe before meeting the Van der Linde gang
>no young Hosea/Dutch DLC
>no Sadie DLC where she spirals into depression and self loathing and eventually kills herself
Best grandpa
>no young Hosea/Dutch DLC
Dutch and Hosea in their prime would be amazing. Though it wouldn't fit the theme of the games as they are about the world passing the outlaws by.
That's why it would make a better DLC than a full fledged game
>All that vandermatthews baiting
>Hosea falling legitimately in love with Bessie and becoming a better person because of her
I want
GOAT
>rubs head
>L'mask u somthin dutch
>kid Arthur trying his best to impress Dutch
>kid John being a dumb retard
I already miss him bros. One of the best written character in videogames, reminds me what meant to be human
ONLY OPTION. I always hated when the story would grow a beard on him. Also I tried to make him a bit fancier before he got sick.
delet
What THE FUCK is this homo shit!? Hosea is pure. PURE.
Vandermatthews is the purest love imaginable
Actually i'd like RDR2 more if you could wear pretty dresses
Hosea is made for loving Dutch
I actually genuinely love John's shape. Those oversized ranching gloves are based.
scute
Absolute beta.
and then shit fucking escalated after he got hit in the head on that tram accident
*rapist
I like John as a protag (story wise anyway) just a tiny bit more but I liked Arthur's voice and comments more
What exactly does your honor change about the story if anything?
>MacDougal gets referenced
>You meet the German man you shoot in Mexico while searching near Rhodes
>Strange man in the mirror and in Armadillo
>HERBERT MOOOOOOOOON
Who else.
>Be a complete knight in shining honor
>Arthur cries to Tilley or whoever about "I'm a strange man I kill innocents too often."
Weird.
Nothing. You get some variations of cutscenes but that's it. Micah might end up one eyed depending on your honor and choices but that's it.
>Though it wouldn't fit the theme of the games as they are about the world passing the outlaws by.
Always thought it was odd how 2 was just treading the same ground as 1 thematically. When I heard it was a prequel with Dutch's gang, I thought it would be set in the glory days of the Wild West but it's almost exactly the same as the first game.
A flawed person that still tried to care for his friends. Terrible with women, great at banter. One of the best written and voice acted videogame characters ever.
Series is literally called Red Dead Redemption user.
So the entire epilogue isn't canon, right?
Hmmm.
>never sprint anywhere only walk
>only light trots with my horse
>taking in the scenery and soundtrack
Based.
>461534223
PLs DONT
>Game is called Red Dead Redemption
>The redemption isn't red.
shit game
Post your favorite track, Yea Forumsros.

CUTE!
I love her so much.
I liked her.
Red Dead II gives me that kind of painful homo romantic lust vibe. I like it.
Rate my BOAH
>Not being a dishonorable Arthur, slowly shifting to Neutral then ending as a honorable Arthur
I feel like this was what they intended to happen but they give more bonuses for having good honor (discounts, extra outfits) and give you the honor bar from the start so there's really no reason to ever go dishonor outside of second playthrough shenanigans.
Looks good but it's generic af. Literally see that Arthur pop up about 20 times in these threads.
>muh all black badass fancy outlaw
I'm telling you, you faggots are missing out on dishonorable play throughs. You finally feel like an outlaw and all the times Arthur says shit like "i've killed innocent people", it actually makes sense.
Just spam the honor exploit at the start ("howdy mr!" x2000 times), buy any outfits you want for having high honor, then play however the fuck you want because that's the only incentive to getting high honor anyway.
>tfw constantly robbing homesteads
>tfw no longer have to take shit from people who call me a "coward" and shit talk me for no reason
Truly the way this game was meant to be played
>cheesing fucking RDR of all fucking games
you people are nofun redefined
I don't know if not being able to romance anyone was a good thing to prevent the waifu shitters, or a bad thing because I couldn't breed with Mary Beth
2nd playthrough retard. And fuck getting enough honor the "legit" way just to make my BOAH look all pretty
It's not even a fucking cheese/exploit. It's time consuming as fuck, you have to greet like 100-200 separate people. Shit took me forever
wtf he looks like a manlier el donte
KEK
Come on fellas it 1899, keep in blacked on my behalf
What's the spookiest thing you found in this game?
>Sean’s Party
>Dutch holding Hosea’s hand
youtu.be
>We did it, Hosea.
>Whatever else happens.
>We did it.
WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE!!!
the kind i like to punch
>mfw that's the way it is
gentlemen
Oh Arthur
Arthur
Disgusting.
John
>We've all seen you and Hosea "reading"
>literally retarded: the post
A thousand times this.
Seriously this, his journal adds so many layers to Arthur.
Overall I still think John's story in the first RDR is better though.
Loved that
>falling for the evil meme
Eh I'd say he's pretty evil.
>robs banks, steals from innocents, and kills dozens of police officers who likely have families and are just doing their job
How can you hate something so pure?.
