I wish there was some endgame to CDDA.

Game is just so boring after you survive the first year.

Jannies are salty fags

Bump

none because i'm too stupid for roguelikes
even dcss is too difficult for me, and i dont understand why.

Attached: retard hazard.png (349x427, 168K)

CDDA,Elona,Unreal World,DF and Tales of MajEyal if it counts

Game is already boring after a week.
Soup like always because I’m too scrub to ever get to the orb. Farthest is the dumb mermaids or whatever that surprised me by being so strong.

there is an even easier one called Dungeons of Dredmor, it has a lot of cool stuff from other roguelikes but far less punishing and with a much more colorful and easier to understand world, it's a great roguelike and even better for people that want an easy way into the genre

Does risk of rain 2 count? Probably not

It’s a rogueLITE, so no.

Caves of Qud. Best roguelike ever

The fuck is the difference?

>pick minotaur berserker
>press a twice
>press tab repeatedly until everything dies
There you go, easy 3 rune win

Roguelite saves your progress and has unlockables and such that will help you with later runs
In roguelike, when you die it's back to the bottom for you

>even dcss is too difficult for me
I got all 15 runes the first time I won. Every game before that I never even reached the Lair. Minotaur Berserker was easy mode.

Roguelike is a very specific type of game that mimics Rogue and Nethack.

position on the spectrum

Oh and I should mention I did The Tomb holding the Orb of Zot.

>The fuck is the difference?
The fact that Risk of Onions is nothing like Rogue, retard?

I miss lava orcs. Strong enough to still be easy mode but not so much that i'm embarrassed to post it.

less like rogue

you and i both know it's not that easy. i know because i tried and failed before even seeing what a rune looks like.
rogue-like: a game like the old-ass dungeon crawler Rogue
rogue-lite: a game that uses some mechaincs that Rogue invented (randomised runs and permadeath) but in a different genre, sometimes you even unlock stuff in a run for your next run, or carry over items/buffs/whatever..

Roguelikes are literal clones of Rogue.

>has meta progression
>not turn-based
>not tile-based

instant disqualifiers, for one.

>mfw i created a genre and no one even knows who i am

Attached: rogue.png (637x371, 30K)

So, how's Caves of Qud?

roguebasin.com/index.php?title=Berlin_Interpretation

>rogue-like genre means games like the game rogue
>many people think the “rogue” means only the fantasy class

Best roguelike out there.

Cool setting and atmosphere. Gameplay feels a bit wonky and I don't know why.

Caves of Qud is awesome. I just wish they would finish the fucking story mode.

Really?
Can you elaborate a bit on that?
From what I've read it looks similar to Elona when it comes to some things, which I don't mind, but it also seem to lack some of the more extravagant things from Elona, and at the same time it seems to lack the indepth number crunching autism from Tales of MajEyal.
I love the graphics though, they're very charming, really, really good looking for a Roguelike.

I touched the orb once.
What game? And I like cataclysm lately. plus the classic dwarf fortress.

>I like cataclysm lately
>what game?
user...

Soup is really an amazing game. In terms of game design and balance it's easily one of the best roguelikes.

I know many consider it baby's first RG but there's a reason it got so popular, it's genuinely good.

I also enjoyed Angband a lot but it feels a lot more "hack'n'slash-y", it's more quantity over quality.

I'm not sure if I would consider unlockables to be a deal breaker. IMO it *has* to be turn-based though, which most "roguelite" aren't.

Dredmor is painfully boring, Tangledeep is the far superior commercial baby mode RL

Okay, I don't play with tilesets. It looked very similar so I was curious if it was something different.

>>>has meta progression
>>not turn-based
>>not tile-based

>instant disqualifiers, for one.
Not necessarily by itself. But together fuck yes. Plenty of roguelikes have some meta progression, ghost in stone soup come to mind.

>chesthole tileset
i dont understand the appeal it makes the game look like gamemaker garbage. Retro days best tileset

Attached: 1546041591156.gif (169x117, 96K)

Nethack is massively overrated

Absolutely this. And it isn't fun to play recklessly after doing the tedious task of skill grinding and assembling high tier gear.
redpilled. Anything but retroDays is dogshit. The fact that it actually vibes with the rest of the UI is just a bonus

Try out Sword of the Stars: The Pit. Its casual friendly and very interesting the first time. The only problem that locations lack variety.

>The pit bull mix lunges for the zombie child!

New DCSS tourney when?

Elona
I just love it

the berlin interpretation gets too specific. some of the shit it lists is just stuff you get naturally as a result of the genre's main features anyways. complexity, resource management, and exploration are just results of it's dungeon crawling and rpg aspects.

Just cut it down to
>turn based+cell based combat/movement
>non-modal combat
>has perma death feature, or at least some sort of progress loss
>rpg mechanics, since roguelike is a subgenre of rpg
>heavy emphasis on dungeon crawling. naturally this would require the implementation of procedurally generated dungeons / loot / monster spawns / npcs

>roguelike is a subgenre of rpg
Holy shit you're so fucking retard. Keep your opinions to yourself.

How do I become good at
- Caves of Qud as true man, without grinding my ass out and then contracting throat cancer from the game deepthroating me
- Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup - Yes I am bad at videogames.
- CDDA - I can't survive 1 day. I seriously don't know what to do. I try to loot a town and ZOMBIES spot and kill me instantly. If not zombies then skeletons or dogs. Please send help.
- Unreal World - I learned how to fish and make a fire but then I just get lost without water and die of hunger, or cold.

I still can't grasp how you play this game. Anywhere I go there are zombies so I can't go into any buildings to loot shit. When I try just outrunning them I end up swarmed and dead

Can anyone help me with a problem concerning Cataclysm? The first time I was playing I could use my mouse to click around the menus and on items in the world which made it really convenient to just sit back and relax while I played. Idk what happened because after that it wouldn't work anymore no matter what I tried. How to fix this

Happened to me too.
Could be 2 things, windows 10 update or your frameworks got fucked. Clean reinstall fixed it for me so I can't tell exactly what it was other than that.

For DCSS you just need to keep playing until you understand what kind of enemies are more dangerous to you and that AC is king even if you are a mage.

I don't play roguelikes. :)

Damn, that fixed it? I tried a clean download several times and nothing. Fuuuuuck

And CDDA you need to be careful and not make noise,at the start of the game its a good idea to only explore at night and only fight enemies one on one.

go back to fortnite then, kid

No thanks. :)

NO
I WON'T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN

Attached: 1555256381764.png (1414x1693, 1.27M)

Frogcomposband

I tried to bruteforce it and play a literal muscleman and I still got wrecked by all kinds of shit. Shriekers, skeletons, even dogs. I could kill some 1:1 but I would sustain so much damage just from one encounter or it would make so much noise that hordes would just fuck me up. I have survived more than 1 day in the woods but I don't want to play a game with zombies in the woods, I can just try unreal world for that.

>- Caves of Qud-
Haven't tried it, probably grind.
> - Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup -
Practice and read the wiki. Also focus on one combination of race and class starting, preferably one that is actually good.
> - CDDA -
Hide, find a good place to hide, and don't fight if you can.
> - Unreal World -
Also haven't played, jesus I need to play more games.

while definitions are defined by the general population, no one unironically thinks that stuff like Resi4 are FPS

What are some roguelikes without grinding?
>playerbase figures out how to spend 20 minutes in each floor milking everything so you can become OP in the early levels
>devs see this and say "this is now how the game is played" and make mid-late game content retardedly unfair so you HAVE to milk the early levels for bullshit gear
Way too fucking many roguelikes do this shit.

Attached: a man.webm (450x472, 1.44M)

>First Person Shooter
>Third person
Kill yourself.

This, class variety and character building are amazing, so it's my jam
Too bad the campaign is only partly randomized so it gets rather boring

Most have anti scumming methods.

DCSS,the game is literally about making grinding/overleveling useless

>CoQ
Most builds can work but there are a few notable mutations that make the early game way smoother as you try to figure out how to play. As far as I remember, ice/fire hands, quills/carapace, regeneration, extra legs, force bubble (if esper), teleport/teleport other are all good

>CDDA
Speed is key, get Fleet Footed. You lose speed when you're in pain, so as long as you keep yourself safe you're fast enough to make sure that most zombies can't catch you, which makes most encounters survivable. Non-human enemies can't open doors and are shit at climbing, so use cars, fences, doors, etc. as natural barriers to make space - Parkour Expert is another really good early-game trait. It lets you hop picket fences for free, chainlink fences (almost) never fail to climb, and generally reduces the cost of climbing (ie. through cars, wreckage, bad terrain)

Other than that get a decent melee weapon, play it safe, the outskirts of towns are usually easier to raid

Brogue is a fantastic starter roguelike
Fairly simple mechanics, not too hard, and despite being ascii the colors in everything make it very clear what you are looking at and it also has a symbol reference in the side in case you forget what symbol is what

Search for coffee roguelikes
the Doom one is fairly easy and decent actually
for more fantasy, dungeonmans is also good

i really want to like videogames again

I know the feel. Ex dumped me a few months ago and sucked the life out of everything and just shat on everything I love like an animal. Gym helps to recover but vidya is just not the same anymore.

It's like sex. Just pick a time and do it on schedule, eventually it comes back to you.

I'm trying to get back into DCSS, it's been easier now since I had very harrowing hallucinations about it while on my almost deathbed in the hospital last year.

Attached: necrobold.png (1894x873, 394K)

It's said that if you dream about something then it's a good sign because it's your brain's way to try and solve issues you had with it before.

Infra Arcana. It's comfy, but there's barely any discussion/information about the game online.

give me some fun dcss combos

It's probably the fact it was the main game I was playing before this surgery. It was supposed to be nothing special but I ended up getting complications which led me to almost bleed to death internally.
Anyways, after that I woke up all drugged and everything was hazy and surreal, in the worst way possible, all the while being physically tied to a bed.
It's a very bad feeling, regardless. Took me a while before I could look at DCSS screenshots without experiencing it. It's like I was playing a nightmarish version of it.

It's strange to hear someone describe a near-death experience, have it relate to vidya and then still come back to vidya. It's usually the reverse effect.

Well, it wasn't vidya that led me to almost dying in the first place, far from it, actually.
It was also only DCSS that I got this lingering unpleasant feeling against since it was the one I hallucinated about while almost dead, everything else I could play just fine.
Thankfully now enough time has passed to heal it, that and I realize it's completely unrational though in the beginning you really don't get to stop feeling just because it's not rational

BaWn
You have good apts in almost everything so even a random setup helps you
Same for GnWn

Attached: octofun.jpg (1151x441, 123K)

DCSS! I recently got a 14rune win and I'm on the way to another 14+1 win!

Really hard one too, I can make it far/win most roguelikes but that one kills me around floors 3-7 usually.

What would you guys recommend? I'm currently torn between playing more Dwarf Fortress or sinking back into something like DCSS.

>Infra Arcana
My university colleague told me once that this game is 135IQ+ at least. I'm only 120 so it was a pretty realistic statement I think.

lmao what does 1351 Q even stand for, 1351 queers? your university is just making up some bullshit now

135 Intelligence quotient

>falling for it

Attached: 1488677132196.jpg (193x255, 29K)

Yep. Well like I've said I'm only 120.

I’m in the same boat user. I’ve been lifting more than I ever did before, helps a fucking ton. Thankfully my love for vidya is still strong, I feel sorry for you.

You'll get through it user, good luck. I went through it two years ago and I'm honestly still not 100%. It gets easier though.

Wake me when KeeperRL actually progresses.

It's definitely tough. I've been doing pretty well by taking a stealthy approach. Directly engaging with enemies every time usually goes bad for me around floor 4-5, but stealth is reliable. It's also pretty immersive for a RL and makes it stand out compared to others. Running across a corridor while a monster patrols and bolting the door behind yourself is pretty tense (especially when they repeatedly try and smash the door afterwards).

Brogue, because I am a big diaper boy.

>dogshit
But is it (mushy) dogshit or (hot) (frozen) dogshit?

Making my own and I'll start tomorrow, I swear.

Overrated as fuck

It's tedious, unbalanced, tedious, horribly written, tedious, ugly, tedious, buggy and tedious.
There is some fun in it, but you really need to ignore the plentiful bad parts to get to it.
And the devs are fucking retards. I'm not even talking about the SJW parts (they are genuine SJWs and I say this as someone who shits on /pol/tards all day), but about game design which they do not understand.

>Caves of Qud as true man, without grinding my ass out
Qud is inherently grindy. If you don't want to grind, pick a different game.
>CDDA - I can't survive 1 day. I seriously don't know what to do.
You need to kite all the fucking day. If you are getting hit, it means you aren't kiting enough. If you are having fun, it means you aren't kiting enough. Throw rocks, fire spears, sprint, craft armor all day.

I don't know how anyone can get into games with graphics this shit when they don't have any porn in them.

Brogue has an actually working food clock.
Sil forces you to go down constantly so your grinding is on a timer.
Infra Arcana keeps making you insane when you fail to move down.
Demon has no respawns or timers so you can't grind.

Play Ground gives way. Best short roguelike, with pretty interesting take on genre staples to reduce RNG and tedium

It really is that easy tho. In one run I killed 13 orbs of fire on the way down zot and they all died to berserk.

you could probably mod the shit out of dcss to make all the attack log messages lewd or some dumb shit like that

Been getting back into Elona recently, downloaded Elona+ Custom G yesterday.
Don't know what race/class I wanna go with, though.

Or turn off all non-woodland generation to play survival mode
CDDA start can fuck you over if you don't know what you're doing or what to do first day
fuck perks, if you want a melee character you should have at least 10 in str. At least 10 in str. Take whatever you want for everything else. INT is good for reading, DEX is great for dealing damage with fast weapons, and STR should be at least 10 for a melee character. STR should be at least 10.

Fuck what you know, come up with a fun character and pick anything. Be fast, be slow, be useful, be retarded - doesn't matter. If you take Drunken Brawler, consider any time you find a flask to be your personal payday. Fill it with any alcoholic liquid and call it a day, because now you don't have to carry a large bottle around.
Stop fucking skipping your fucking combat skills at the start, holy shit. Stop wasting points in skills you won't use until day 3. Stop wasting points because 'down the line I want to be a tailor'.
Read a fucking book if you want to be a tailor. You need to focus 100% on your individual fighting tactics at the start. Take a point or two in melee, pick a combat skill and throw points in. If you have any sort of hand-to-hand attack types, take points in it and dodge. Dodge is always useful.
Dodge is always useful. So is throw, but throw is trainable by throwing a rock at the air. Disassemble or smash a chair, make some throwing sticks. Congrats, you can now kite good.
Several martial arts are worse than others. Several only matter during specific points in combat. Krav Maga is an acceptable, yet low baseline. If you went for high int, use Dragon Kung-fu. If you have good str, go for Karate, because blocking twice more next round is good. Crane kung-fu also can be fun.
If you want water, just make a funnel and call it a day. Find a way to purify it, and you're good to go.
Don't worry about mechanics until month 1 ends at least.

Is Centipede still Fist of the North Star or did they nerf it like everything else fun?

I like getting fucked in the as 5 different ways before I've finished the first quest/dungeon, but is there a roguelike that lets you coast through most of it without thinking?

Attached: 1535039588358.jpg (583x438, 40K)

Snail tourist for maximum challenge.

Mystery Dungeon games, I guess. Stuff like Shiren, Izuna, and the pokemon spinoffs.

What should i use, electric or normal car?

Attached: 2019-05-09 21_31_48-Cataclysm_ Dark Days Ahead - 0.png (1680x1050, 546K)

Electric if you have a ton of solar panels, normal otherwise.
Real chads use a hybrid.

>munchkining this hard
Next thing you'll advise noncrippling weaknesses so you could take more perks.

>Fuck what you know, come up with a fun character and pick anything.
Worst advice possible.
If you're having any amount of fun in DDA, it means you aren't doing it right.

You should check the parts first, and if yoh have time/tech salvage what you can. Particularly mirrors, never could keep them attached.

DCSS after not playing it for years. Is it just me or did the game become a lot easier? Think I'll just go back to Caves of Qud. I don't really like Crawl anymore. It's a good babby's first roguelike, but I prefer something more flavorful and thematic.

Play Rogue and find out

How is CDDA now?
Last time I played it shooting was nerfed to the ground and needed Coolthulu's Bright Nights fork to be playable, but it seems that hasn't been updated for ages.

It got more tedious and gameplay mechanics are being nerfed into meaninglessness to make room for realism.
For example, you can now butcher one moose into hundred of edible bits but need like 40 days to starve to death.

>It really is that easy tho.
apparently not. i tried it again just now and i died to a bunch of bees.

Salvage solar panels from every car you find. Cover the whole car in solar panels. Get mechanics to 8 and add a gasoline engine, ideally a V12. Also do a lab and get an A7 laser. Mount it on your ride. Win.

Yeah, when you're run through it like 3 times, then you've seen most of it. :( Good thing the classes keep things fresh. Arena is kind of a cool concept, when you want to try builds that wouldn't be viable in the campaign.
And holy shit, the "time" classes are absolutely the best ever made. I will forever love time warden and his shenanigans.

Man, playing TW and just building shitloads of defenses on teleport is hilarious.
Put a shield rune on activate on enemy seen, then be 100% unstoppable 100% of the time.
