Honestly it feels to me that Sakurai just doesn't particularly care for villainous characters. He seems to avoid adding them whenever he can help it, even if it makes no sense to do so (shit like adding Zero Suit Samus as a second Metroid rep before Ridley was absolutely fucking absurd, for instance).

Sakurai said in an interview that Wolf barely made it into Brawl (making him an afterthought), and Mewtwo was seemingly "replaced" by Lucario. Neither of those can really apply to the lizards, they were both chosen for Ultimate's project plan on Day 1 and neither of their respective franchises really have anyone that can replace them.

Absolutely based, Ridley, Rool and Roar, the three biggest never evers are finally in Smash. It's feel really good winning after all these naysayers talking shit about us for years. Here's hoping for more games with these bad boys in the future.

Sakurai has stated that characters from series with no future are rarely picked. And Smash Bros as a series has always preferred characters from on-going series or recently released games. the main problem with Geno now compared to Brawl is that there are now quite a few smallish, fast strong lightweight projectile-based characters and only his core fanbase will be interested. there's some twitter account that did a poll of who people want for smash DLC and Geno did pretty well, but Sora came first and only got like 10% of the vote with over 20,000 votes cast. Nintendo might as well have not picked the fan favorites at all for the DLC if the most popular can only get 10% support. They'll probably just add characters that bring variety and market the game to new audiences at this point

I won't be upset if he never gets in but I do genuinely believe there is merit to including him that has nothing to do with memes. He has a genuine personality to build off of that is much different than Wario's and separates him from just being Wario's Luigi and makes his antics genuinely entertaining. He canonically has a crush on Daisy, he goes way over the top in everything he does which could be evidence of insecurity and overcompensation, especially with his petty remarks when he loses something. Here is the deal, Nintendo make sure to keep Rosalina relevant as part of the Mario franchise, while Square let Geno die.

You can also argue that Rosalina was the main focus of the Galaxy theme, and lore, while Geno was only another weird character in a game full of weird characters, who only overcomplicated the plot. The idea of a new Villain taking over the kingdom forcing Mario and Bowser to work toguether was enough of a plot, you can still take Geno out, and the plot would still work and be really unique in regards the Mario canon at the time.

You take Rosalina out of Galaxy's plot, and it's just another Bowser kidnaps the Princess story, but now in Space.

That's just because Kirby's fanbase is much smaller than Mario's. Most people know Kirby only from Smash Bros, and Meta Knight/Dedede were totally new to most people in Brawl. People were also honsestly suggesting Dedede as an assist trophy after Meta Knight's reveal because people saw Kirby as so low-priority. Kirby's fanbase does love each and every character a lot, clearly, but none of those characters are really "iconic" if they're not prominently featured in Smash Bros. Smash Bros made them so recognizable.

Yes, but still, before Smash, people knew of Kirby, not so much of the Kirby cast. The franchise is growing, but is hard to sell most of it's characters to the people who only know of the series in a casual way. Again, the Mario cast is recognizable even if you don't play videogames.

I never played a Kirby game, though I like the characters, I think that as a casual representation, the Kirby franchise is in a good place. They may be fan demand for Bandana Dee and Adelaine, and they may even made it someday, but from a purely casual point of view, I think the only character missing is a pure Villain, than after Ultimate, it would most likely be Mars now that it has been formaly introduce to the mainstream collective.

It's clear that Sakurai doesn't give a shit about the character and will most likely never include him as playable, same thing with Toad.

Meta Knight already serves the role of Kirby's rival/villain especially since Sakurai keeps him in-character like in Super Star unlike what NeoHal has done with him.
The only villains I really need now are Porky (Ness's rival and Giygas' chosen child), Eggman (best Sonic character), and Sephiroth (I hate that Cloud was added, but adding this autistic edgelord Mama's boy villain would make Cloud totally worth it)

Ridleyfag here, as long as the character belongs to Nintendo, there is always hope. Sakurai himself is tires of fighting over the roster, even if he decides to keep working on Smash, sooner or later he will just work in base as to whatever nintendo would want to sell... which at least we know includes Kirby at the moment. As a Metroid fag myself, the future is uncertain.
