Honestly, there are so many classes and specs that this game will never be perfectly balanced.
They're permanently working on it though, they ran a poll not long ago gathering opinions on each individual class for new balance and are currently completely revamping Osamodas and Sacriers again.

Join Ilyzaelle and do the tutorial then quests. If you get lost pm any member of the guild Steamed Hams except xiway/bouyete for advice.
You can change the stats of your character freely once you're subbed, and freely until lvl 30 by talking to an eni in the tutorial area's inn so don't worry too much about it.

This is what Wakfu was supposed to be.
The environment was supposed to be 100% managed by the players : resources, monster spawns, everything.
Ankama assumed some players would be more inclined to resource management and would fully dedicate into it, but in the end there weren't enough people to sustain the ecologies and hyper farmers just genocided everything every time.

It was always sub-based. They extended the demo area recently so that you can actually get a shitty dofus by doing all the quests you can find in the area.

Sacriers can damage, tank, and heal but they're getting reworked soon.

That's exactly the way they're reworking it, it kinda lacked in this regard and lost its berserk identity but they're apparently trying to give it back this humph feeling again.
It's not freemium, you have to sub. Otherwise you'll be stuck at lvl 40 (out of 200), the inability to fight monsters or interact with resources in the parts of the map that don't belong to the Astrub continental mass and you won't be able to relocate your stats.
Also you wont be able to connect at all during prime time, if the server is full you'll be prevented from joining instead of entering the queue.

Yeah the sub can seem expensive if you're low level, but as you level your rewards for doing anything get exponentially better up until the sub price looks pitiful to you. Ogrines are worthless compared to kamas.
The sub is also cheap in IRL money so that helps.

wakfu is honestly a really good game, multi-account autism fucking killed it, that and ankama going back on their word and releasing it as sub2play instead of f2p, beta was super alive then it came out and there was basically no one playing.
Can't really speak for what they did long after release but I really miss it, and I hope they make their new game another mmo instead of mobile shit so I can relive the experience for a little bit atleast.

Playing alone gets fucking boring
I'd rather have a wakfu monoacc than letting the multiaccount autism run unchecked

Air is better at low levels because of the mobility and the fact your summons still have low hp. Plus the tofu summon gets to level 3 fast.
Later every element is viable.
Fire is very good to heal in a group, but that's pretty much it. Meant for group play.
Earth tanks absurdly well, as do the gobbals themselves.
Water does ridiculous damage at short range, but I wouldn't advise going for it.
Air can kite everything to oblivion and can solo a lot of the game's content. Their current braindead strategy is getting nerfed soon though (casting deplumage on a tofu and sending them to hit someone then explode for a gazillion damage).

Osamodas early game is better on Air since the tofus have a metric fuckton of mp
On lategame you can go whatever since all elements have good summons

Enu's job is to prevent enemies from moving and they do it very well. Extremely useful, but also boring gameplay. They can also support the team in various ways (healing, utility summons, some damage, BIG damage to enemy summons).
Sac is getting reworked soon so I can't really summarize what they're gonna be. Ankama said they want to give it back its berserker identity so expect taking hits and dishing out damage I guess.
Iop is (or will be again after eca gets nerfed soon) the biggest damage dealer in the game. Their damage is absolutely retarded and mostly short ranged.
Eca is the most versatile class in the game. They can do everything, and they do it well since the devs removed the possibility for them to get bad rng from their spells (now they're all beneficial). They have a nerf coming because the devs finally woke up to how OP they are. I expect their damage to be lowered back under iop's. The main problem is that they can get to 100% crit for free with a spell, and therefore build entirely for stats and crit damage where other classes have to do a lot of sacrifices to get the necessary amount of crits to make crit damage worthwhile.

It's strong and very versatile in Dofus.
Very desirable for any party

Thing in Dofus is that at high/end level content, the bosses hit like trucks so people end up relying in not getting hit or resistances from equipments. There are some classes useful for that tho, masqueraider or feca. Ouginak is also a kind of dps/tank but they also rely on self sustain from hp steal or regen. I think Pandawas also have some defensive skills and do decent damage. Lots of utility spells too
Honestly, just try all the classes. You can level easily at the start just by doing the first quests

Low level masq leveling is pure pain. It gets better later. Ougi shouldn't be hard though with their lifesteal and ability to kite.
Eni is good at healing in pve and 3v3 pvp.
Osa is good at pissing off everyone you play with or against. And at soloing things up until very hard dungeons.
Ougi is good at 1v1 pvp, less but still good at 3v3 pvp, never seen one used in pve so can't say. They're damage dealers who are good at chasing down a single target so pretty niche outside of pvp.
Masq is OP in all game modes currently. They make themselves and their allies a pain to kill.

Oh yeah I remember when this class could solo 1v1 anything because he self healed himself more than enemy could deal dmg to him, as well as deal dmg. Then after 'nerf' Eni was able to win any fight unless someone was playing the class that could sustain himself out to the point that Eni had less hp than he could do in a single turn.

AP theft is all about Wisdom in Dofus (Last i checked) so stats into that is wise. BEST thing you can do is go fire build until you get Clock then restat into wis/water. After that go into +range and fucking nuke some poor mob from 7 range for a good amount of damage and steal 2ap.

ap removal is currently strong, and the water branch is all about giving yourself ap (and you can give ap to your buddies with dial too but it's impractical in pvp)

MMOs need to be updated forever, so you have a choice between paying a subscription, losing to people who pay in korean MMOs, or your MMO being dead.

Well thing is, you could, but there's also pretty much no penalty for dying save for a stat debuff and even if you killed a farmer he could come back, then again after you kill him again, and it would repeat until you either took all your shit elsewhere or one of you gave up. Prison was also a thing but so was escaping from it, which made prison pointless too.

Only way to truly protect crops/trees/plants/mobs would be to have whole squads looking after them and have them kill anyone getting near, but that's tiring and something you'd only see deep in the mines with the valuable ore.

wakfu from a political stance is basically end game globalist communism. A group of cheerful volunteers are expected to keep the whole mess running while LE EBIN COMMISAR(strong pvper) and his central planning board of retards (the dominating guild) just go around and grab whatever they like with zero consequences because they are in charge/at the top of the social hierarchy. You have to be able to blockade players out of a zone, or be able to punish them in a meaningful way to keep them from doing the dumb shit they want to do and most importantly you need a way to stop players in the middle of the act of wrecking something. Furthermore, the zones need to be large enough to actually contain a multiplayer ecology. This has been the number 1 problem since day 1, even with ultima online. Game devs make this tiny little worlds that -seem- large but realistically are 1 x 1 mile micro-zones that would devolve into anarchy and cannibalism if a similar group of people were dumped into them in real life.

Just to be sure if it is the class you want to play, check on the early levels. You can do great things with foggers but you need to know how to play around all your turrets. Also need a non brainlet team to do dungeons. You can also check youtube videos to see what high level foggers do.
I would say that for low levels pve is better to stick to your enemy and try to steal as much HP as possible. Also remember to use your prey spell
