Why did they do this? They had fucking gold on their hands and they blew it. I still play Crusader with my friends from time to time.

Aint that bad. I'm on Legends, but I'm mostly waiting to see the new game before commiting to buying Crusader 2

Don't get Crusader 2. They baited me by saying they went back to how the old games played, but they took everything that 3 had and made it worse.

Stronghold 2 was fine too. Building castles was fun and siege battles were more fleshed out. Stronghold 3 was complete disaster. There was always problems with food.I dropped it like fater 1 hour is was very bad.
How is legends? I haven't played that one.

They introduced major changes on how food and resources are used.
For example, the stockpile now costs 500 wood, but your wood camp nets you 50 wood per trip per worker
They also introduced some great QoL improvements on creating units, you can now create 24 units at once. Your mythical units have powers that range from air strikes to summoning knights
The mythical aspect is quite fun and the other changes make it feel like another game.
Sadly,there are lots of bugs on units AI, but at this point, bugs are a staple of the Stronghold series.
Give it a go, it's only 2 bucks last time I checked
