There's plenty of similarities. The game world has like 25 areas and once you unlock the basic movement upgrades you can pretty much go anywhere, fight a boss, unlock shit, just like in HK, there's no one linear route to follow at any time.

Then there's also a badge system very similar to HK's charms.

RR is a lot more fast paced than HK though, with way smoother controls.

It makes movement feel clunky as fuck.

The game scales bosses with your items, so regardless of the order you do them, they're always be a decent challenge. I recommend just playing however you want, with maybe one exception: try to give Cicini's quests a priority as they give you very valuable movement upgrades.

after that you will need to find the bosses in the world and defeat them, much like Dark Souls or like that. defeated bosses join you in town and will sell you buffs. after certain amount of bosses collected you get to fight some major boss fights.

I dunno if I'm playing it right, but I just spam that B and down+B power ups whenever they're available and then use hammer combos up close, and when not doing that I just fire charged red orb shots as much as possible, you can keep doing it even when dodging. This is usually enough to survive a fight without cakes.

don't forget green orb, on top of healing it causes knockback to a boss in some cases, giving you lots of breathing room. it's absolutely necessary against Irisu since she has screen wide AOE attack and if you don't push her back and she lands in the center of screen she will dab on you.

If you use different moves the combo bar will go up higher which will give you a damage multiplier. So instead of just spamming the basic hammer attack you should try using the other moves you get too

- Minor shit and you probably know this, but killing any boss (including the final boss) gives a unique item, sometimes very powerful.

There was a string of many small updates that I believe involved balancing of the SP bosses from the new dlc. But I haven't seen one in several weeks now.

Why are the character sprites always fat? It's awful for bullet dodging unless you do a shmup-style center pixel as hitbox thing.

Considering there is variation in eye shape, eyelashes, eyebrows and jaw roundness, it's far from the worst. Iris design you could vary a bit more (syaro's is already different though) as well as the distances between facial features if you really wanted. But to me they look fine.

Max Rank in about delivering as much damage as possible, and NOT getting hit. So in the early game, and especially in lower difficulty, it is difficult to build it up before the boss dies. But on the highest difficulties, BEX and beyond, you will often end the fight with MAX...because getting hit often enough to lower your rank will also kill you.
So....DON'T get hit if you want MAX.

Oh and skill-wise, charged egg shot (if you have lots of eggs collected) and super carrot work wonders for rank, simply because of the sheer damage those skill deal.

There really isn't. The game is just kinda slow and plodding. You're supposed to take it slowly since even common enemies can 2-3 shot you. Charge your attacks and plan your moves in advance before rushing in and getting rekt.

I think a demo would've probably alleviated the stigma around it, but some people (mostly insecure zoomers/normies) just aren't going to buy it no matter what because it doesn't look "cool" like hollow knight. There are entire attacks that wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Messing up on casual before postgame or outside 0% is legendary levels of bad.

I know what you mean. I liked Valdis; 100%'d it, got S-rank on all the bosses, saw all the endings, etc. The momentum and animation lock on attacks feels like absolute shit for a game of this type though. I also don't really approve of the way S-ranking gives superior boss rewards, when it's the people who can't perfect them who need those stat upgrades the most. It creates a kind of snowball situation where the more S-ranks you get from early shit, the easier it'll be to get S on later, harder bosses(to say nothing of how crazy boosts can get when you also combine the laurel). They should have made all the characters usable from the start too, instead of having to unlock two of them partway through the game.

Pretty sure novice is just casual but with actual damage. That being said it is four bosses in a row, and even with checkpoints and some healing between phases, you should watch your items.

I monitor twitch channels daily for interesting Rabi-Ribi streams and I can't recall a female streamer playing it, even on casual. Though this might be due to it being an anime fanservice game, rather then difficulty.

If you meant postgame, then I think it's nothing some badges and items can't get you through. System Interior 2 and Library do require some degree of skill, though.

I'd like to add that making movement abilities attacks you have to slot and trade around really kills the pacing at times, and I found the backgrounds and layouts visually confusing at times. Otherwise I enjoyed it a lot and accomplished the same things you did

I like both. Hollow Knight has superior atmosphere, environments, and music. Rabi Ribi has better gameplay, boss fights, and sequence breaking/nonlinear design.

Myself, I decided to do all the new SP bosses from Before Next Adventure dlc only on BEX difficulty, something of a self imposed challenge I guess. So far, I did all of them except SP Irisu...and I really don't foresee defeating her anytime soon, that fight is truly something else.
Those dlc SP bosses are really well made btw, the fights are well designed and fell unique, especially SP Miru, that one felt like from a horror movie.

Yeah about his writing: what about Irisu's picnic? When she invited Erina at the beginning of the dlc, I was hoping it would lead to some sweet yuri fanservice at the end. Instead, once the whole fearies-gone-wild plot started, Irisu was promptly forgotten for the entire dlc.
