Nothing went wrong with that, it's just the Sony machine became too big to beat

it fell inbetween generations, had no dvd support, also they didn't think to add dual analog despite the ps1 having it for a couple years before the dreamcast's release, they also shunned EA published games so it had no mass system sellers for normies - it was strictly a game console for actual videogames

people were getting tired of arcade games I guess. That's what I remember anyway. I had one and I knew a few friends that did too, but they pretty quickly moved on to the PS2 and Gamecube. Like the guy above said, it was just an inbetween console.

Basically every other company had an advantage over Sega. Nintendo had bigger brand recognition for family friendly game and multiple strong performing IP's (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc). Sony had the mature audience, the hype factor, and the insider advantage giving them far less costs for more powerful hardware, and Microsoft was simply rich. Even if Sega managed to succeed with the Saturn and not release the 32X, they likely wouldn't have made it out of the 6th gen.

No dvd support

Sega of Japan

It sold well enough that it could stay on the market and be respectable. Like the GameCube and N64. But sega were already FUCKED as it was releasing and they were going bankrupt no matter what

it was obsolete when it was released

niggers

It was Too good for this world

It was succesfull Until Sony launched ps2 which was the biggest domination the gaming market has ever seen

Actually the only thing that went right was Virtua Tennis

Basically the same problem as gc
No cheap dvd player

completely obliterated by "OMG IT LOOK LIKE TOYSTORY IN REAL TIME!!" ps2 hype machine and the shenmue parasite

Sega was fucked from the start thanks to how Saturn tanked in America and how Sega of America and Sega of Japan seemed to fucking hate each other. The Dreamcast was never going to survive its full life cycle, even if PS2 never released.

This. It needed to be something it could never be. PS2 just hastened its demise.

I have 4 inputs on my television, and since i'm not interested in managing a rat's nest of wires so I just swap out the consoles I'm not playing right then.

The Dreamcast always seem to find a slot. Was playing Hydro Thunder last night and Gauntlet Legends with my bros before that.

Not a cheap DVD player. The only reason why that underpowered piece of electronic trash also known as PS2 won is because it was a cheap DVD player.

Haven't we hashed this out 1000 times by now? The Sega CD and 32X were total failures, and they jumped the gun big time on the Saturn, which was a trainwreck as far as hardware. They also completely abandoned the Genesis in 1994, which was their only money maker. The Game Gear certainly wasn't bringing in the cash.

On top of all that, piracy was an absolute joke on the Dreamcast, anyone with a CD burner could do it. The whole thing was just the final domino in a series that went back to 1993.

What was the name of that game of trucks?

Sega of Japan's autism.
They discarded the American version, which was supposed to have some beast hardware (like 3dfx graphics chip), which resulted in major western publishers like EA telling Sega to fuck off. Then they produced the very small amount of Dreamcasts, naively thinking it won't sell well; that ended up in a massive shortage, which pissed a lot of potential buyers off. And lastly, PS2 happened. No one could compete with it.

>Dreamcast was way ahead of it´s time and had revolutionary features such as purchasing games digitally online, it also rapes PS and N64 in terms of specs

Fuck off. That´s not why it bombed.

This is a good answer. People wanted bigger games with more scope. The Dreamcast's answer to that was Shenmue, and that was a pile of shit.

They got curb-stomped by the PS2, nintendo had beated them down in the n64 era, they cucked themselves with a ps1 deal, which also btfo them in that era, and they basically lost consumer faith by dumping their 32bit console ASAP.

SEGA late-game was making asinine decisions. They missed out on the n64, ps1, and even getting acquired by xbox. No room in the game market at that point.

You realize that at the time of release, ps2 actually had a high end gpu inside? The pc-console gap was there then but not as big as now

The VMUs sucked batteries like a $3 whore.

They could have found success but at this point their other division went bankrupt and they just focused on making money form IP's.

They didn't release Star Wars Trilogy Arcade on it like they promised they would.

The PS2 is more powerful than the Dreamcast and had a better library. It's been 18 years since the Dreamcast was discontinued. Get over it.

PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
VMUs were the shit. Check out my Chao.

Horrible management by SEGA of Japan. Saturn fiasco meant it was doomed before even being launched. Controller is uncomfortable. Absolutely laughable copy protection.

Really, with how much was wrong it's actually a small miracle the system and the games were as good as they were because this should have been a full-fledged disaster.

look at that fucking controller in the image and ask again.

>ywn play PSO for the first time again

Just wait for the Dreamcast Mini

>mfw there will be a dreamcast mini before a Saturn mini because the dreamcast is more relevant and didnt have retarded architecture
