The worst parts of Dark Souls 1's level design are the empty wide open horizontal spaces like Blighttown's swamp, Izalith's lava field, and several parts of Anor Londo. DS3 has more of this type of level design than any other Souls game and is the worst for it.

I always hated the direction they went with Dark souls after playing demons souls. It felt more arcadey and unfinished and it was missing a lot of the environmental story telling in favour of npc “questlines”
