Squats, deadlift, overhead military press, pendlay row, benchpress, chin ups, and dips. You'll hit all your muscles with those, and they're compound lifts, which are better for beginners because they hit multiple muscles with a single exercise.

I usually just pick who looks fun. Bonus points if they're even remotely scrub friendly.

They aren't meant to be an indicator of being a master at all games, just characters I gravitate towards.

At least that's how I felt when I made the list since those are the characters I played most when I played those games as they came out and still choose when I go back to them, even if I'm not a master at them.

Currently I'm spending most of my time in UNIST as my first time trying to get decent at a fighter. I've been playing alot of secondary characters too in order to improve my gameplay in general by understanding how those other characters work and how I can work my way in when fighting them.

I pick a character with 2-3 clutch moves that i can spam.

I have a set of priorities in my head which generally tells me which characters I will play.
The only time the rules can be overridden is if the game is a tag game and the team has great interactions and a contrasting playstyle while using the same kind of weapon.
IE Yuzu and Hakumen in BBTAG being big sword users with JUSTICE on their side but are directly contrasted by their playstyles.

But even in that order they all matter to a point.

I prefer grapplers, but if a character has a really fun mechanics I'll opt to switch to it, Of course if a character I like character wise is ok enough I'll probably give them a try.

That all said if the character is on the bottom 25% of the cast I'll probably drop them. I'm not a top tier fag, but a lot of fighting games are to badly balanced to give the lower tiers a chance unless the skill gap is huge.

Tag team games are great because it means I get to pick one of each, 1 character that's just my favorite for who he/she is, 1 character that has a playstyle I'm found of, and one character that fills the gaps of the other two.

Usually I'll scan through the roster for anyone that has a partically catchy design, if not then usually the lower the tier the more likely I'll pick them. I caught this autism bug to pick low tiers since its a tough love way to play, like if I can be good at a game with a character who is unanmously known to be shit, then I know I'm at the very least objectively adept at the game
