The first one was a trail blazer for sure.

The first one is arguably the best.
The second one has interesting elements but most importantly explores the most on the plot and the past of the main characters.
The third one allows you to play as a badass bald dude that kills people by snapping every single bone in their body or fucking them up with needles, but aside from that it's a pretty terrible game.
There's also portable titles i haven't really explored.

On top of all this there's a separate IP, sort of a spiritual succesor called Shinobido: Way of the Ninja but that one didn't get an US release, EU and JP only.

Those X-ray kills

Shinobido was so good.

No

I miss playing tenchu trying to get every kill again and again

It's worth noting that Shinobido actually got a sequel on the Vita.
Like 8% of anyone knows this, nobody fucking purchased that thing.
I've never played it myself as i don't own a Vita, but i've heard good things about it.

Tenchu Z was the peak.

what trail blazer mean??

I've heard about it too. It's gonna be the first game I'll play when I get myself a Vita for cheap.

Have you ever played Shinobido Takumi?

it innovates, does new things

Nope, sounds really neat but i wouldn't even know how to play it.
Does it work emulated?
Does it just use the save game file from the base game or something?

thank you. i agree with trail blazer definition for tenchu.

I doubt it holds up well, but I have really good memories playing Wrath of Heaven co-op with my friend when we were kids. Using bait strats and coordinated assassinations was so much god damn fun.

It's a standalone game. It's not translated, but there's a faq you can use that translates the menu and stuff.

They are pretty good.
My favorite is fatal shadow just because i like rin too much.

It does hold up pretty well.

the camera is fucking nuts though

Yeah, it takes a bit of learning how to control it, but it's nothing drastically different from other games of that era.

agreed. + when it did cooperate it gave you a cool and useful angle around corners or below ledges or whatever.

I really wanted to like 1 but the lack of direction is absolute shit.

Always ends up with me killing everyone because I can't find out where to go.

I felt the same way about the ps1 games, imo wrath of heaven and the other one are much more playable despite having similarly mazy-ass levels and the crazy "kanji + number of steps to away the nearest enemy is plus fire" system of indicating enemy awareness.

ECHIGOYA
where have you hidden?

PS2-era Tenchu have very linear levels. It's hard to get lost.

No, just stay with Sekiro. There's a reason FromSoft decided to make Sekiro it's own thing, instead a new Tenchu game.

they do have a lot of little branching loops and intersections that look like they all go to different places, playing as a kid i always felt like i was missing out on half of the area at first.

what do you think that reason is

theyre like the dark souls of stealth games.

They also have maps.

lmao they sure do dude, i'm just saying the devs did a pretty good job of making their handful of repetitive playstation corridors feel a little mysterious

One trick that helped me back then was to always look up when feeling lost.

How someone feels about Sekiro isn't much of an indicator of how someone will feel about Tenchu. They're very different games overall.

I wish way of the samurai and shinobido isn't dead

Based FROM
However the game was still pretty janky

>Sekiro is a Tenchu gam-

It isn't, but it was very obviously inspired by it. I really would like to see From create an actual purist Tenchu sequel or even reboot though, I think they'd to a fantastic job.

They need to give us an AC game, first.

There's already an Armored Core in development, they announced that months ago.

I'll believe it, when I see it.

It was also disappointing.
