I don't think he finished the game, Deacon St.John and Raymond (the white trash rapper) were not even close to being friends. That was clear from the beginning all the way to the end.

Deacon is shown throughout the game to be mentally unstable due to the death of his wife and being a drifter forcing him to some really horrible things just to survive a post apocalyptic world full of rippers and marauders.

Try taking on that horde using a shotgun/pistol and crossbow and regular molotovs, in early game; that's what I did and i ended up dropping every obstacle, using molotovs to drop timber piles, and in 4 tries, I did it, with literally no ammo, i used my LAST crossbow bolt on like the last group of freaks, and knifed the last 3, and popped the horde trophy, I was so satisfied, game is a 10/10. Please challenge yourself, and stop proving developers right about how dumb ass consumers will make the game way too easy by using stupid broken methods to do everything. That was an awesome experience and you robbed yourself of it.

Days Gone is an important experiment in the vidya landscape. Where before studios tried to fall back on SJW good boy points for easy viral press, that’s not working so much anymore. The militia turns evil and attacks over the course of what, three or four missions? The pacing really fucks itself at the end, and the missions get lazier and lazier.
I thought the Militia was pretty obviously shit right after the ring girl mission. It was going downhill since then.
I think it was likely they kept adding content whenever the game got delayed which is why it felt like that. An interview last year said the game will end after the 3rd camp with Iron Mike. That part felt like a natural conclusion to the story and felt nice to end it with a sequel hook.
But the game kept going on, it was the halfway point at 30 hours even after the 3rd camp. The final few parts felt disjointed but I'm pretty satisfied with how long the entire game was because it kept giving and giving.
