but persona 5 was semi political
it was literally "we live in a society" the game

SJW Western devs can't into meme magic.

Came here to post this. Shido is literally a Shinzo allegory.

Persona 5 was definitely political, but it twists the knife on some very real problems in Japan, so it doesn't feel forced like western video game politics.

Japanese games are not apolitical all the time. Especially in JRPGs which always have undertones of pro-nature, anti-west imperialism, anti-religion, anti-military, etc. Actually, most Japanese games don't have real stories anyway, you're right.

you think they are apolitical because you are clueless about japan's politics.

They're just not so in-your-face about it and leave room for you to somewhat form an opinion instead of telling you only one correct one I guess.
Saying they're not is wrong, especially P5

Oh user, if only.

What do you mean?

Why do western game's politics come across as obnoxious?

What does Japan do right about their political games?

>JRPGs
>anti-west imperialism
The others are common, but what are any examples of this?

Give you a clear picture and let you decide for yourself instead of force opinions on you

>Persona 5
>Apolitical

>People with wealth, power, and influence are allowed to trample the common man, with no sense of guilt

You can literally make friends with a politician in this game, and the main fucking villain of the game is a politician. Politics are more than SJWs, retard. There are tons of apolitical Japanese games and your dumb ass chose one of the most political ones there is.

it's not about not wanting games to have politically thematic content, it's about western devs inserting direct references to modern political events and ideas

Many western devs design games around their own hot takes or current affairs while Japs seem to choose topics that fit the game's setting or concept. One of the reasons why some don't even notice political themes in the latter is the fact that Japanese devs never take themselves too seriously or forget what matters most: having fun.

Western political games arent fun. Literaly name 1 that is or at least left a mark in pop culture. Meanwhile, MGS2 was a hard read on the dangers of the internet and information and its still relevant to this day. The game was also fun.

Because shootings and shit don't happen in Japan.

based OP knows exactly what he's doing, most of you are retards

You manbabies wouldn't be complaining about politics in video games if the political messages were something like "niggers are a threat to society" or "mass immigration is destroying culture". You only get made when the politics you don't like are in games.

>Politics are more than SJWs, retard.
This, 1000 times this.

You cucks wouldn't be complaining about politics in video games if the political messages were something like "niggers are replacing whites" or "mass immigration is destroying the patriarchy". You only get mad when the politics you don't like are in games.

I don't play western games anymore.

Attached: 1500762299567.jpg (190x248, 17K)

Nah dude you just don't get it

All the messages in Persona are actually bad messages because they're not about embracing the transgender otherkin you were meant to be because you like knitting

Attached: 3d7[1].jpg (470x470, 25K)

It's a less diverse culture so there are fewer groups complaining about things.

The semi final boss was literally a politician trying to run for prime minister

Papers, Please.
Fallout: New Vegas.

P5 is fairly political and critical of Japanese culture in general. It's just not the atrocious kind of shit that passes as politics these days.

Because the main goal of western devs is to push their politics, the message consumes everything.

The main goal of Japanese developers is to make a fun game.

>leave room for you to somewhat form an opinion instead of telling you only one correct one
That's bullshit, I've never seen a Japanese game that leaves room for interpretation of who's right or wrong in the story, least of all Persona 5. You've had people challenge the idea of the protagonist and friends changing the minds of people against their will but it's always later shown that they're bad guys anyway so they're wrong and you can disregard what they say. It felt like they had to reinforce the idea that you're 100% just at every step like they're afraid of making the protags look self serving as opposed to being the righteous beacons of justice they think they are. It's just not in Japanese culture to like being made to guess who's right and wrong and would rather be told directly.

Because people into politics in western game development companies are obnoxious. They think they're some sort of fucking heroes for championing a cause even if it's just popular opinion the media shoves down their throats because they don't bother to think it through. I've watched fight club again recently and it had me thinking when I heard this, maybe it's because these people have no purpose to work to in their lives that they resort to being so gung ho about their politics and shaping their entire being around it, it gives them a sense of direction an belonging that people naturally need in their lives.

Too be fair, the later was a theme in FFXIV, with the refugee crisis.

Love how liberals keep trying to use P5 as a political gotcha when there's so much "wrong" with it.

>literal whose talk about the lack of faggot options
how does that make the game political

Not him but I think Shin Megami Tensei is a decent example, specifically the first one where the American government (controlled by Thor) literally nukes Japan.
FFVII's villain faction Shinra also has some imperialist elements, namely their relationship with Wutai.
Can't really think of any other examples.

>tfw can't self-insert as Joker because he's too cool

>Western political games arent fun.

>Medieval Total War 2
>Morrowind

Because you get all of your opinions from Yea Forums shitposting threads.

Shido ran a populist, Trump and Duterte tier campaign and won in a landslide. That's as political as things can get.

I drop any japanese game at the first sign of Yuri
I don't care if I'm 80 hours in
Fuck Yuri

>Persona 5
>apolotical

Pick one

Why can't people form opinions of games by actually playing them?

Middle right is valid as fuck.

Based, Yuri is for fags

Can't believe they went after him for trying to make people fuck.

dude literally prevented a nuclear apocalypse what the fuck is your problem

>New Vegas
>Deus Ex
>Bioshock

It's more about how he isn't really improving the country. For example, the text on the posters in Shido's palace state something like "I will take advantage of the people and reap all the benefits for myself". The bluntness of this "slogan" is a jab at the vagueness of Abe's campaign slogan of "Take Japan Back", which is pretty similar to our "Make America Great Again".

well the protag's name was "Joker"

All video games are inherently political, user.

Attached: hypocrisy.png (606x2311, 345K)

>or at least left a mark in pop culture

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare series is one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time and promotes a Hollywood style hypocritical anti-war stance in an action movie setting.

Persona 5 is anarchist leaning more than anything.

Which political games do you like, Yea Forums? For me, it's Vanquish.

Alot of jrpgs have anti refugee sentiment

Why are there always brainlets who are incapable of understanding the problem with politics in games, and readily assume that politics in games are bad just for being politics in games?

We all know Kefka is Trump

Which character was trans in Persona 3?

I mean, Metal Gear Solid 2/3 were a thing

Is Mishima the rep of the regular Persona fag?

Persona 5 actually did ultimately frame the Phantom thieves as wrong for changing people's minds though. that's what the whole final dungeon was about, how the people become complacent sheep waiting for Yaldaboath to take over because the Phantom Thieves have stolen their desire and ambition.

Mishima is the eternal NPC.

>P5R is a new game where a little younger Sojiro is the MC
One can only dream

This. They should've just killed those people with guns.

i lol'd when Futaba used the NPC meme before it became a thing

Futaba's verbal abuse of Mishima was great. Why is he so fun to bully?

Attached: Kek irl.png (1280x720, 1.26M)

Joker's "savage" response was hilarious

It's been a while since I played so I don't really remember but weren't there a lot more people in there than just the ones the PT went after? I thought it was just about people being complacent sheep in general, not something that was brought about by the protagonists.

Games are and should be political if it fits with the themes and story
Think Witcher 1
Games should not have modern american politics and ideological bullshit all over the place
No 14th century emperor drumpf and his altruistic righteous knights and the wall of the land to keep non whites out

At the very least I don't think they ever explicitly state Tora or Shido's political views, which is a step in the right direction

You absolute fucking retard, just because you associate with politicians in it doesnt make the game political. It's about whether the game wants to make a definitively political statement.
>Politics are more than SJWs retard
At least this isn't a lie

It was implied before the third temple, when Ann had some doubts about it

Those doubts made no sense. If the Phantom Thieves didn't do their thing, all those people would've gotten away with everything.

Good job OP! All these retards took the most obvious bait possible

>weren't there a lot more people in there than just the ones the PT went after?
Every person in the city was there.

>Not "Looking cool, OP!"
You had one job.

>ywn experience the political and racial tensions felt in Morrowind again in a pure fantasy world.

>ywn be chased down by hyper-nationalist Ordinators for wearing just a single piece of their hallowed armor again

>ywn kiss the degenerate leader of a multicultural, cosmopolitan political house for a promotion again

>ywn help racist wizards do magical experiments on slaves again

>ywn escort a drug mule khajiit stuffed to the brim with moonsugar to a shop and watch him get murdered for the goods inside again

Truly, Morrowind was GOAT

Attached: When+memes+collide_f76a38_6428679.jpg (1200x940, 209K)

So how could it be the fault of the PT then?

>No stupid arrow in the knee memes
