Roguelikes with shit graphics (including no graphics at all as well as low-res static images) will no longer be taken seriously.
dead cells
Elona+
;)
why do you say that? roguelikes have always been niche
roguelikes were never taken seriously
Because the industry has already produced "Roguelikes" that have surpassed that very low bar while also achieving a far greater measure of success in terms of playerbase and reputation.
No one looks at a game made of @ signs, periods and pluses and thinks "Wow"
Are there any 1st person roguelikes? I really want to make one
Wizardry sound familiar?
cdda and caves of qud are comfy as fuck. wanted to get into dwarf fortress adventure mode but meh
I want to get into DF adventure mode but I suck ass, I spent like an hour walking through a forest throwing rocks at birds and licking their corpses. DoomRL is pretty good though.
the point of roguelikes is that it uses its shitty graphics to create huge worlds with incredible amounts of interactions. nethack in and of itself requires an encyclopedias worth of knowledge to understand every possible interaction. of course youre right it hurts its marketability, but people who like classic roguelikes arent your typical graphics fag
One of my favorites
bro i completely forgot about doom RL thanks for reminding me. that game was the shit back in high school bro, seriously great game
I never played it, does it have randomly generated levels, items and permadeath, and is it non-modal? No JRPG battle menu, otherwise it'd just be Etrian Odyssey.
>not knowing what Wizardry is
Begone, small child.
I know what it is, I've just never been interested in playing it. Would you mind answering? Is it a roguelike?
>does it have randomly generated levels
no
It's fucking Wizardry nigger, it's been around since 1981
You're not answering my question, is it a roguelike? Why aren't you able to provide an answer?
Qud.
No, it's not a roguelike, because it existed before roguelikes did. Why not type your asinine question into google?
On the note of DoomRL the guy that made it actually had a kickstarter and has made a official game that is more or less DoomRL but actually sellable it's called Jupiter Hell
pleb game but at least its a roguelike
I just wanted you to admit it. Why bring it up when I specifically asked about 3D roguelikes then? Please follow the context of the conversation.
Nothing with the same complexity, but Immortal Redneck, Ziggurat, etc
Also Rogue the Doomlike if you're looking for a joke .wad
>jupiter hell
it actually came out?
store.steampowered.com
Comes out in June
God, you're dense

Are roguelikes the ultimate vidya redpill?
>Reminder that binding of isaac, rogue legacy, enter the gungeon, etc are NOT roguelikes and any posts mentioning them should just be ignored.
Are you fucking stupid?. Literally their page says Roguelike you absolute mongoloid. Binding of Issac is one of the most influential games on Steam how is it not a Roguelike?
What about vagante?
All I've ever wanted is a 40k roguelike that's actually finished/feature-complete.
Really in the mood to play C:DDA but I have to relearn the controls and how to do shit since it's been a while.
Might do Elona+ or something but I dunno.
Recommend some. Something that I can just download and start playing, 'cause I downloaded nethack 4 and it asked me to compile shit and connect to a server.
gearhead and gearhead2
But what should Warhammer 40K roguelike be all about? Space Marine fighting against hordes alone? The story? The universe?
You're thinking of Space Marine. It's a cool game. It has a cool story, and it has the biggest open world in any roguelike. And I was hoping they'd go with that. They have a very good story. So for sure that was their choice. I wanted to make something that felt like Warhammer 40,000 while still looking cool:
>it's roguelike because the devs told me so
I guess Battlefront is one of the best shooters of all time just because EA think so.
>it's roguelike because its influential
I don't even know how to respond to this shit.
ROGUELIKE GAME I DONT LIKE IS NOT ROGUELIKE STOP LIKING NOT ROGUELIKE ONLY LIKE ROGUELIKE
dungeon crawl stone soup, sil, doomrl, infra arcana, catacalysm dark days ahead, Tome, and i think og nethack should have standalone .exes
or if ya wanna go premium cogmind, tangledeep, and dredmor are all on steam
God you're such a fucking moron.
WHEN I SAY ROGUE AND NARCISSISM THIS IS THE WORST ROTATED CONCEIVED EXAMPLE IN LIFE YOU WILL SEE THAT VERY REAL CONCEIVEMENT FOR CULTURE AND SOCIETY THAT IS THE REASON FOR NOT ROGUEING IN ALL MEN YOU MIGHT JUST WANT TO LEARN HOW TO LITERALLY USE THE LANGUAGE AND EXERCISE TO ACTUALLY GET A LOAD OF PEOPLE TO JOIN YOU WITH BEING ROGUE AND NARCISSISTS
The original NetHack you dumb fuck
Go to sleep, kid
I'm looking forward to Dwarf Fortress in the Epic store.
Is Diablo a roguelike?
Are you THAT bad at roguelikes you've got to act so salty?
The game literally says Roguelike you actual retard holy shit.
Apparently it was designed as one, but changed during development, search on yt for the postmortem, interesting shit.
I'd really love to play final Diablo with proper turns, etc as it was designed.
Nethack is so fucking cool but I'm so fucking bad at it
not him but the term has been widely misused by steam tags and publishers on to the point that if a game has perma death or procedural generation then it gets called a roguelike. hence why fans of the roguelike genre get butthurt. Traditional RL's are pretty obviously within their own class and yet vary wildly. Its a great genre based on but not limited to perma-death, rpg, turn-based, procedural, challenging exporation.
What are some roguelikes I can play on my cellphone?
No mobage or jewery shit.
>DCSS
