I will actively discourage my child from playing video games. Games are at best a time-filler. People who treat them as anything more end up leading unfulfilled lives.

Still in the process of making one. You can get the Switch, but it has to be confiscated outside off designated screen time hours. Of course it'll represent a huge distraction, and you'll have to discipline her to not ask for it constantly. It could be a worthwhile parenting moment.
I personally would avoid it. I actually do intend to get my child a game system, but it's only once they're old enough that we can go on road trips as a family (~8 years old, maybe earlier) without them getting too antsy. The Switch or whatever handheld is available will be for long trips only or for certain times during the weekend.
