What's the most overrated RPG of all time?
Any Jap shit.
definitely some weeb anime bullshit jrpg.
planescape was kino
Baldurs Gate 2.
Its essentially just a JRPG in a cRPG skin.
Anything Josh Sawyer touched
Morrowind. The quests are all dogshit and even Fallout 4 has more choice.
The only thing you do is grind till you break the game.
i'm g shit about to kick your fucking jit ass
You posted it. The gameplay is just trash in every game that runs on the Infinity Engine.
>best-seller
Lol @ whoever added that
Be careful, Todd may hear that.
What game?
Not that. It had a great story and made sense. Look into Icewind Dale if you have a beef against D&D since they're just a shite story designed to make players feel powerful. Also fuck off.
sneed
Planescape Torment
mass effect
Friendly reminder: on any board discussing any RPG game which is not weeb shit, 90% of the people talking about it haven't actually played it and base their knowledge on:
A. Common knowledge and heresay.
B. Wikis and Guides
C. Memes and Screenshots
Actually having in-depth discussions about RPG's here is basically pointless. I actually discovered that during a lengthy argument about Planescape: Torment. As soon as I brought up things that cannot be quickly searched up in wikis, barely anyone was able to respond.
Skyrim.
Any other answer is wrong.
>As soon as I brought up things that cannot be quickly searched up in wikis, barely anyone was able to respond.
Try me.

Final Fantasy [Insert number/numeral/subtitle here]
Tactics is good though
Yeah, I agree there.
witcher 3, no contest
Playing it right now. Depending on where it goes from where I'm at (Skellige) it very well may be. I don't despise it by any means, unlike a lot of anons, but I don't think it's that revolutionary.
Also, someone post the copy-pasta.

you really picked the most mediocre games he listed to defend?
Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece. This is irrefutable.
We already decided this
user, Planescape isn't even a game so this isn't a trinity, it's a duet.
>strawpolls on image boards
Chrono Trigger is a generic JRPG with boring combat and a time travel gimmick, there's nothing special about it.
2nd for Chrono Trigger
What an overhyped piece of great at best game
I'd argue that Secret of mana, especially 2, Terranigma and Lufia 2 are all superior but they just got completely overshadowed
>manged to even beat out consolewar bait options
It must be true then.
I've beaten most infinity engine games and dropped planescape. It honestly feels closer to a visual novel than a standard infinity engine game.
>revolutionary
Literally NOBODY ever said it's revolutionary
It doesn't do anything new, it is just competent at executing already existing concepts, well, for the most part
Why didn't the "mages" just cast themselves out of the dullest game in the history of JRPG? Seriously each level following the boy time traveler and his pals from across time as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Sakaguchi vetoed the idea of a non-turn based combat system; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for Final Fantasty. The Chrono Trigger series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Secret of Mana series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
a-at least the Story was good though
"No!" The writing is dreadful; the story was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "went back in time."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Takashi Tokita's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Chrono Trigger by Hironobu Sakaguchi. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing Chrono Triggerr at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play Final Tantasy." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Chrono Trigger" you are, in fact, trained to play Final Fantasy.
Gets me every time. Thanks user.
Witcher 3
Any Final Fantasy game
Cope
>people don't remember in depth stuff about games they didn't like that must mean they never played the game at all!
How retarded are you Codex-fags? I played PS:T for two hours or so, thought it was garbage, and I can barely remember the game, yet I still played it.
> Mass Effect 2

What exactly ISN'T mediocre about Mass Effect?

nepshit
it's not even close, those autistic hugless permavirgin memeing the fuck out of it also know it's shit
I feel like its sorta enjoyable if you pirate it and skip all the terrible VN scenes and play it just for the game-play, the giant list in 7 that tracks everything you do and gives rewards for repetitions of literally everything tickles my autism
>mass effect 2
>dark souls
>final fantasy 3
you really think tripe like KOTOR, Pokemans and Persona deserve slots over Dark Souls?
How is it overrated if even fans acknowledge it's bad?
Skyrim, without competition.
Chrono Trigger
Wasn't this a single guy with a bot? Modern Yea Forums doesn't even have enough anons familiar with PS:T to keep threads about it from dying early, I cannot imagine there were 454 unique anons who chose PS:T.
It's time to stop caring about what Yea Forums thinks. Look at all the replies your post gathered; garbage.
Yea Forums is flooded with memers and normalfaggots. It's practically irredeemable at this point.
Don't ever bother arguing with anyone here. It's not worth your time or effort. There's a good chance the person you are talking to has a sub-100 IQ or is just being a flagrantly stubborn faggot.
KOTOR and Persona have obnoxious fanboys but they are nowhere near the level of retardation achieved by Soulsfags.
Anything Bethesda/Bioware
Witcher 3
Dark Souls
Genuine question: How do we get the japs to play the good wrpgs (deus ex, arcanum, bg, fallout)? All they seem to know is skyrim (not even TES) and mass effect
All of those sites are actually American aside from Famitsu
Japs are too busy with gacha shit
Pre-Bethesda Fallouts. They're fucking boring and missing the comedy that made Fallout 3 so good.
why don't you try something more modern instead of 20+ years old. get with the times old man.
Great games are timeless
None of those games are good, they are all outdated pieces of shit
Did you even leave the mortuary?
Obviously not because if you played it you would have liked it.

Yes
It was boring, I kinda knew I wouldn't like it because I hated point and click combat but I thought the story was supposed to be good but it didn't grab me at all, it was trying too hard to be a mystery, I kept wondering why I should care.
This

Pretty much anything involving anyone that used to work at Black Isle. They have fanboys that hype anything even if it shit.
Skyrim

Planescape has what in comparison?
>a devout following online
this also applies to jrpgs. if you make any attempt at discussing things beyond waifushit you'll most likely be met by blank stares. seriously, go to any tales of, persona, xenoblade chronicles, etc thread and see what discussion is like.
>it didn't grab me at all, it was trying too hard to be a mystery, I kept wondering why I should care.

Ebin
You literally said yourself that you were intimidated by a mystery. What am I to interpret from that?
If you can't handle not knowing everything from the start, then don't take on media that does. There's plenty of non-challenging stuff out there and it's not necessarily bad or stupid.
You should know some things and more importantly establish why I should care, him just being the player character is not enough to make me care, even he didn't seem that interested in his own story.
They drop you in as a stranger in a strange land with immortal powers, a decaying body, shit scrawled on your back directing you where to go, and a comedic talking skull who knows a little too much. If none of that intrigues you, idk what to tell you.
>even he didn't seem that interested in his own story.
absolutely wrong if you read any of the dialogue or interactions
Anyhow, I don't give a fuck if you enjoy it or not. Just leave it at that instead of claiming that it's 'too smart' for you.
Not OP, planescape torment is one of the worst experiences I've had with any video game. My playtime was 20 hours but it felt like 60 because of how incredibly mundane and boring the game was.
Weeb stuff is the same shit, people always focus on waifus
fpbp
Story fucking sucked dick. It was scifi channel levels of crap. The combat was alright, the character models were nice but it was way too pretentious for it's own good. Definitely could just feel the director leaning back with a shit eating grin, full of self satisfaction the whole time I played it.
samefag
Go for it, i played it like 5 years ago but memory should be holding. Don't expect much past Trias because games devolves into mostly combat by then and it lose a lot.
Look at this too cool for school faggot. /v was never some holy grail of gaming. It's just a fuckload of contrarians and always has been.
Bait has gone stale my lad.
glad you agree
>plays waifu jrpg garbage number 4452563 no problem
I would argue that it's Baldur's Gate 2.
Torment is highly rated for sure and perhaps overrated, but even its biggest fans thend to acknowledge it had some serious issues with its gameplay. You'll see no such concessions from the biggest BG2 fans. And every. single. time a new WRPG is released they'll come crawling out of the woodwork crying their beady little eyes out because "baww it's shit compared to BG2."
And the truth? The truth is that BG2 is a bad game. Not just an overrated game, but actually a bad game. At least Torment has the advantage of a memorable setting and some quality writing for a video game, but you'll find nothing like that in BG2. The writing is bargain bin tier and fails to find a consistent tone, the setting is one of the most generic kitchen-sink fantasy worlds in all of fiction, it single-handedly popularized bad RPG romance options to the point that many mouthbreathing retards now consider them a necessary feature in similar games, it uses one of the blandest pop-culture roleplaying systems in existence, and the combat which makes up most of the game is both unbalanced and exploitable as fuck and, more importantly, just not any fun.
thread should have ended here
Just like that fucking atrocious torment tides of nummenera that got kickstarted. Played like aged shit. And it was just fucking tedious, walls of text literally everywhere with overblown descriptions.
chrono trigger is good because of how consistent it is in all aspects, but compared to a lot of stuff that came after it just comes out as being good, hell it has one of mitsuda's weakest soundtracks. That said it's aged 100000000x better than any wRPG from the same era
Nice, projecting and strawman in one sentence. Well done
>Story fucking sucked dick
What didn't you like about it?
Honestly it's so generic it's basically forgettable to me ar this age. It doesnt so anything "bad" but it's the definition of safe to me. A little time travel gimmic to reel people in and then Just standard turn base jrpg nonsense for the main fair.
Nothing was terrible, just way overblown. The twist about peoples fate on the moon could have been seen a mile away, the andrioda trying to say not to have emotions in the same cutscene as they are freaking out. Literally anything with 9S was atrocious, from has gameplay to his dialogue. Just reminded me of hope from ff13. The who 2B "death" to try to illicit a viewer response in a really cheap way. All the fake endings (rolling the credits at the end of chapter 1 is not an ending, it's just needlessly being a faggot). Honestly looking back there wasn't much I did like about the game.
This is a rather flexible pasta.
BAEd
You posted a great example.
This thread demonstrate that the majority of video game players are autistic with the attention span of a coke addict and I'm glad this medium will never progress beyond mediocres toys for todlers and disabled teenagers in need of dopamine
