this is actually caused by a cluster of poison pots making poison smoke in some other nearby room, and the FPS drops go away once you destroy them. It's fucking stupid that it happens at all, but it's especially dumb because you don't even have to be looking at the poison pots for it to fuck everything up.

There's no such thing as dodging too late like that. If you press the dodge button too late, you don't dodge at all and you just take the hit right there. You either dodge and don't get hit, or you get hit.

If you're saying he deserved to take damage for doing a frame-perfect dodge, I'd say that actually would be a mechanics problem. If the player manages to start the dodge, then any damage that would've been taken during even the very first frame of that dodge should be ignored. The player presses the dodge button so that the dodge animation starts on the exact same same frame that the pink ball explodes, so he's not really even doing it too late.

I think it is kind of a polish problem in that it never happens with regular dodges, only with the special DLC dodges unique to when you equip the the 2H beast claws or kos parasite (with their respective runes).
The iframes for regular dodges and rolls are infallible. Seems like a minor DLC oversight

There's a lot of programming going on at the point of that hit and I'm sure it was a 1 in 10000 chance of happening in the right circumstance so I don't think they would have even written the dodge mechanic to be like that. I agree this would be a fix, how the dodge actually works I wouldn't know. It's a souls game so if the player were to trigger a hit on their hitbox and simultaneously press the dodge button at the exact same time, I would consider that a failed dodge overall. But that's just me.

It's not a failed dodge because the iframes start at the same frame that the dodge animation starts, which is the same frame the enemy's attack lands. Since it all happens simultaneously, it should just be a prioritization thing for that frame. Like on any x frame, active iframes should always negate any possibility taking damage.
It's also unfair to the player because, depending on the input lag, the player actually reacted and pressed the dodge button at least one frame (really more) before the attack landed - not at the same time, despite the animations happening that way.
