Nah, Avellone's stale memes ruined it. Glad he barely worked on NV.
Simply put, we're running out of water. No water, no food," he said. "We're just sitting here dying. We don't know what's going on."
It's hard to imagine living in such dire straits without a reliable source of clean drinking water, but the situation is getting worse. Since the beginning of 2011, nearly 40 percent of the country's population - nearly 100 million people living in 14 states - have no access to clean water for washing and drinking, according to a recent report by the Natural Resources Defense Council.
"That's a staggering number," said Steve Ellis, senior environmental conservation director for Earthjustice, a New York-based environmental legal nonprofit. "That means it means we were basically screwed out of an enormous majority of our drinking water," he told The Washington Post last April. "It's almost unimaginable."
On the ground in Syria
>BoS
Do you mean Tactics or do you mean the abomination we don't talk about
good enough list. it could be argued that NV is an improvement over 3 in everyway, but it won't change the fact that 4 is worse than 3 and fallout 1&2 are og.
>inb4 ebin
is anyone else excited for outer worlds?
>NO, THE CHIP DAMN IT!
wat did he meen by dis?
I personally believe that no matter what they do it, be it Bethesda or Obsidian or any other company, the Fallout universe will never be as interesting and expansive as the Elder Scrolls.
Name one (1) ES game that has the same level of world building as Fallout 1/2.
Tactics was great too. I like what they tried to do with the story and it could've worked. Too bad that was around the time that people started going all-in on the "Fallout Bible" which completely destroyed basically any new narrative themes.
Brotherhood of Steel for PS2 and Xbox though, now that game sucked. But like I said, it has it's moments. I'm a big fan of those types of games though, like Champions of Norrath or Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, so I found it generally enjoyable to play.
The worst part was the product placement with the shit story coming in a close second, but still it's a functional game.
>alternate Earth with some soft scifi thrown in
>generic fantasy world with some horseshit about it all being a sleeping god's dream that never really matters or comes up in the games
Well, when you have "Earth plus" and "whatever Kirkbride vomited onto a keyboard" there's going to be a natural disparity between them, isn't there
Realistically speaking, is there any hope for this, lads? Bethesda seem intent on turning the series into Borderlands-lite, but surely they'll change after the backlash from 4 and 76, right?
lmao
Fallout is just an alternate universe America that is literally the same as ours up until 1948 or whatever.
The Elder Scrolls literally has an entirely unique universe.
>m-muh generic
Nah dude, there's a reason why lore discussions are still going on strong to this day, but absolutely nothing for the Fallout franchise.
> that is literally the same as ours up until 1948 or whatever.
Hopefully, you're aware that the Fallout games take place hundreds of years after that.
>4 backlash
It's well-received though. Don't delude yourself.
>76 backlash
The game is in a much better state now, and Bethesda is active in the community.
Pull your head out of your ass, please.
Nah. They're intended to move away from making RPGs to become an action games developer instead. Just look at Skyrim and FO4. I bet that TES 6 is more actiony than Skyrim too.
>New Vegas
>Meh
If they're smart, yes. They really have to with Starfield and TES VI on the line as well.
Next to nothing about TES lore matters to the games. It's supplementary material, at best.
1 > nv > 2 > 4 > 3
i fucking hate 3, it’s practically just ‘remember this from fallout 1/2; the game’
Hey, it took some things from Tactics as well
>It's well-received though.
Pretty much every online community has derided 4 for removing any semblance of player agency, and interesting quest lines with multiple solutions that the series is known for. Todd even acknowledged that the voiced protagonist was a mistake.
And 76 is still a catastrophe.
never played it, so i wouldn’t know.
Yeah bro, sure thing.
>walk to Mariposa, blow it up
>walk to Cathedral, blow it up
>heralded as a hero

bethesda defense force holding nothing back.
skyrim wasn't even a good action game. i had 150 mods installed and it was still only an ok action game. their shitty engine is better suited to slower pace role playing games because the combat is clunky as fuck.
You can easily buy water though.
>skyrim wasn't even a good action game.
Confirmed for not playing in VR.
And hundreds of years in an alternate universe that's aesthetically stuck in the 50's can't ever amount to the level of creative and imaginative you can have in the Elder Scrolls. It's a simple fact, user.
New Vegas IS a meh game.
But they do matter, hence why the fans care about them so much and like MK's work.
People hate what he brings to the table because they want the status quo knights and vikings, not the snow whales that fly through the sky between mountains and clouds, or underground-dwelling worms that you can use as basically subways, or other wonderous and creative things that break the mold of standard fantasy tropes.
>Pretty much every online community
Yea Forums isn't the only place to discuss Fallout. Every normal person on this world that has played Fallout 4 loved it or at least found it fun, even more so with its DLCs.
Only virgins with nothing better to do with their lives bitch about it and call it a bad game, despite it being objectively a good game.
>player agency
"abloo abloo, i can't larp as a sadistic inceł in 4 like i can in new vegas and real life, what a bad game."
>interesting quest lines with multiple solutions
lol, these interesting questlines do exist in Fallout 4, you're just being a petty liar now.
>voiced protagonist
that still doesn't make the game bad, it just makes playing anyone who isn't a white character weird.
>And 76 is still a catastrophe.
says the deadbeat who hasn't played it lol
drown yourself in your salty tears, dude.
>a different opinion?? on MY circlejerk??!!
ah, the shill card, how wonderful.
>send water caravans to vault
>it just makes it easier for the bad guys to find and stick their dick in it later
i-i...
There should actually be a way to do this and then force the overseer to open up the vault for trade with water caravans, refusing to hand the chip or claiming you never found one.
Go to bed, Todd.
>People hate what he brings to the table
Because none of it is in game and none of it matters.
>Skyrim is actually Alduin yelling at Alduin using Alduin as a proxy
Times it comes up in game: Zero. Times it matters to the narrative of "kill the big evil dragon that wants to end the world because he can": zero. And all he does now is add more and more esoteric shit on top that only dedicated forum users will ever hear about, let alone care about, adding nothing to the series as a whole.
>int 1
>nuh uh, nugh um whua?
Is 2 worth a play? Just beat 1 and really enjoyed it but I've read that the writing in 2 is pretty bad.
You don't have a different opinion, you're just an asshole, but please, don't let that stop you from sperging more.
if you enjoyed 1, then absolutely got for it
Absolutely, ignore the contrarians. It's the first one but bigger and better. The atmosphere isn't as good and the Enclave aren't as good as the Master, but that's about it.
>played it for the first time a few weeks ago
>had the perk that makes the game more bloody
>tfw that ending
Kino
The issue with the writing in 2 is that it can't go five minutes without an obnoxious pop culture reference. But it's still a really good game.
>"REEEE REEEEE, 76 BAD THEN AND STILL BAD NOW!!"

don't concern yourself with the whiny opinons of the permavirgins here, just have fun!
>76 is goo-
You could defeat them in a similar fashion in new vegas lol, besides, that's not a good argument against the game.
I like 1 more than 2.
more focused.
>all this pro-76 bait
nah, in new vegas they just clip through the environment and glitch into your ass maxing you gib into a million pieces.
haha, so that must mean it's a terrible game with no redeemable quality, right Yea Forums?
I’m glad the F3 Defense Force has moved onto defending F76. At least this way, we know for certain that they’re trolling.
>Whatbaoutism
New Vegas is also an RPG, whereas 76 is basically a shooter.
SHUT THE FUCK UP TODD
what's the style and atmosphere of FO1 called? i think that even if the game feels clunky today no other game has surpassed it in the way it makes you feel
love the old world architecture that remains it looks really forboding and sinister together with the ambient music
no, it means that the engine is irredeemable trash that should have been abandoned after morrowind.

76 is an action-adventure RPG, just like how New Vegas is an action-adventue RPG.
no, according to Yea Forums, that means it's a bad horrible game that should be whined about for-e-ver.
>not having any real choice does, tho
they do exist in 4 as well

nah, the point of Fallout is provide a fun post-apocalyptic game that critiques capitalism and the cold war, not give íncels like you a place to practice your sick fantasies.
>you have to go back
why do you want me to leave your safespace so badly?

Just nuke this thread already
>tfw have played Fallout 1 multiple times, but I get bored everytime I start Fallout 2 by the time I reach The Den
Here's your nuke, bro.
2's early game is a fucking slog. Get the Highwayman as soon as you can, that's when the game officially starts.
Fallout should be put to death already. The world of Fallout has already run its course, it has been 200 years since the bombs dropped, it's getting stupid playing the "post-apocalypse" thing by now, there are no more stories needed to be told with the theme.
>game is in a better state now
No, it's not.
>atomic shop is just as bad as ever

Have Sex
Oh, but you can, it's just that you really really really have to get creative, and even then, you can only exhaust each idea once.
Nuka World is one such example.
i always disregard the opinion of people that say that. it's like yeah, there's pop culture references. do we really need for that to be the main criticism for 20 years? it's as if every dialog had them, which wasn't the case. in fact i'll probably add that to my filter now. get fucked niggers, this game is amazing
>woah
fucking Dying Light, a zombie game of all things, has far more satisfying first person melee combat than any other game I've played
People also seem to forget that the first one has pop culture references.
You have to be deliberately dense to not understand the pop-culture complaint against 2. Reducing it to the mere existence of references makes you look like a faggot.
user, the references in 1 are the epitome of soul, while 2 are the epitome of souless
it's not that nobody understands it, it's retards like you who make it all about them as if it defines the game. it doesn't. its literally sitcom robot tier shit that people parrot.
>2's are soulles-

you just said it wasn't a place to larp sick fantasies, i really don't even need to try when you're contradicting yourself.
the argument against 76 isn't about what kind of game it is now. when it came out, it was a dumpster fire with terrible pr in the months following. it says a lot about the industry as a whole when left and right, companies are releasing unfinished, shitty ass games and expecting people to stick with them as they add features all the while nickel and diming them over the course of months. anyone defending this kind of behavior is deluded.

What are the essential New Vegas mods? Should I get the DLC too?
this is a troll
NOBODY is this stupid
You can literally do this in every game tho

DLC ranges from decent to kino.
Ok, cool
How bad is the level scaling in 4? I just want to play a gunslinger without stealth.
swap 2 and NV
Lol no. Wait until it's finished
They literally said that the voiced protagonist thing failed and that the DLC sold poorly.
get all the dlc just for the fuck of it. dead money is the best, honest hearts is based just for the burned man, owb is meme-tastic and lonesome road ties up some loose ends.
as for essential mods "weapon mods expanded" and related mods are pretty dope. on a laptop that i lost the charger for, i had around 80-120 mods installed. if you really want to make nv an incredible and personal experience, spend some time on the nexus. i've done 3-4 different modded installs/playthroughs and each time was unique and better than the last.
>dead money is the bes
this was my least favorite. hated not being able to walk anywhere without worrying about blowing up.
>scaling in bethesda games
not as shit as vanilla skyrim, but still sort of annoying. if you wanna play gunslinger, don't fret. you can easily start amassing ammo you need to fight bullet sponges by the time you're level 15-20. by level 25-30, you'll have enough for an army and wonder how in the world the NCR is doing so poorly.
fair enough, i can't bash you. myself and plenty others enjoyed the survival horror aspects.
Wow that totally fixes everything, are you also amused by somoene dangling keys infront of your face?
>Is 2 worth a play?
Best RPG and PC game i ever played.
Dunno, last time i played it at release I remember reaching a point where the 10mm took forever to kill shit and I couldn't find enough ammo for Cereal's gun. At least in Skyrim you can stop levelling easily

Before I even scroll down, the thread was overrun by NVfags, wasn't it?
No, your Fallout 3 mod is not real Fallout.
Remember when nukes were a big thing in Fallout? The Brotherhood teaches that technology run amok led to the destruction of the world, but let Liberty Prime run around chucking atom bombs everywhere.
It's hella good. A bit meta-gamey though in that you really have to minmax your character ( in other words it's for 3-digit IQ chads only, any less and you can't play it )

How easy is it to play Fallout 1 in its current state?
>more builds
Very. The only cumbersome aspect of the first two Fallout games is the UI. I played them for the first time a few months ago and loved them.
I played it a few weeks ago and only crashed like 2 or 3 times. Just remember to save often because I got used to autosaves and lost everything I did in Junktown my first time.
Thanks, I picked up 2 a while back for free, so will grab 1 then run through them
pistols, energy pistols, rifles, smgs, unarmed, melee (knives or sledgehammer), psi (most unique play style but also most overpowered, tons of utility). shit, you could probably do thrown-only as well, but maybe not on dominating.
fallout basically has 3 builds: unarmed, small guns and melee. 5 if you count speech-only and low int.
>What are energy weapons
something that only becomes viable in endgame
In 2, you can go straight to Navarro and loot the Enclave base.
>you can run to an endgame area at the start
yeah, if you want to make the game dead easy and boring. if you want to make everything a total pushover from the start you should play facebook games or something.
I've been waiting for a new vegas thread to post this, but I haven't seen one for a few days
I never completed New Vegas, yet I did enjoy the 20 or so hours that I put into it.
Never could find the time for it.
If I do try to play new vegas again, is there a way to roleplay either as a selfish male merc with a golden dong or as a sexually liberated (degenerate) gunslinger farm girl?
How difficult is it to set all of this up?
Are there any gameplay/graphical mods that make the game much better? No AAA shit like DoF and chromatic aberration, just some decent stuff like high res textures and sex mods and stuff. Thanks.
>Moving goalposts
>claiming that obtaining endgame items immediately and then starting your playthrough is a viable and not boring way to play
There's not much sex in NV, so apart from banging a few hookers/gigolos in Gomorrah or the Atomic Wrangler, I guess you're out of luck.
Is wasteland considered part of Fallout?
How about THIS game which... like... 8 people played?
I've played it. It's basically Wasteland-lite.
any game that makes more than one Holy Grail reference is limited to a B-ranking or lower
kek
What a cute doggo.
Such a good boy.
1 is shallow as fuck. Only the ultimate rose-tinted glasses would put it above any of the other games except 76 and BOS.
>is there a way to roleplay either as a selfish male merc with a golden dong or as a sexually liberated (degenerate) gunslinger farm girl?
Just with prostitutes a couple of very minor, very easy to miss female characters. Amusingly enough, the only times when you actually can proposition characters outside of those specific contexts is when their only option is to reject you.
1 is very short compared to the other games and basically a tutorial for 2.
Nice try, Todd.
I mean after all the backlash they gotta win back the love of the people.
Plus Todd did recognize that they fucked up the dialogue so maybe they'll go back.
YOU'RE DELUSIONAL. WE NEED MORE WATER TO THE CORE.
I don't see why you wouldn't get the DLC considering the Ultimate Edition retails for like $5 more than vanilla these days.
Varying levels of good: 1, 2, NV
Meh: Tactics
Varying levels of shit: BoS, 3, 4, 76, Shelter, etc.
Still my favorite movie of all time. Pure kino from start to finish.
How did carpenter dev it?
Well of course it wont be as expansive because Fallout is based in reality until the mid 40's. ES has an entire world they can develop from scratch. In terms of interesting I beg to differ, they are both great worlds but it really depends on personal preference
I played Fallout 1 and felt it was kinda meh.
I don't know just didn't grip me.
Also combat falls apart late game, as far as I can tell. Not the focus, but still annoying.
I do appreciate how concise everything is though. Most rpgs feel like they lazily sprawl out for hours and hours and hours.
Fallout 1 doesn't waste your time and lets you make your way through the world and the story at a nice pace.
It's definitely in my top 5, but There Will Be Blood is where the true kino is at.
Based keyword-detecting spambot
>it's getting stupid playing the "post-apocalypse" thing by now
Fallout was never about the post-apocalypse. It was about the post-post-apocalypse, the new states and tribes popping up in the wake of the slate being wiped clean. Right from the very first game there were new cities and little sign of the past.
yes, 2 is an improvement over 1's buggy and unfinished release.
there are lots of 80-90s culture references, but its for the best.
also play ATOM RPG if you want more of that, but modern.
>It was about the post-post-apocalypse
Bethesda never got this, unfortunately. In Fallout 3, it looks like the nukes landed last weekend.
>I like an RPG that only lasts 10 hours and has no factions and like five weapons and only three useful skills and perks with the rest just being beginner's traps
That's gonna be "yikes" from me.
>Is wasteland considered part of Fallout?
In every way but officially, yes.
1 set up the whole world and lore.
Granted, they are more interesting than the game itself, but without it, they wouldn't exist.
The problem is not about that. The problem is the year they picked.
A Fallout game that takes place relatively soon after the bombs, seeing tribes attempting to form and settle sounds interesting,
>Meh: Tactics
spoken like someone who didnt play it in its day. the multiplayer was amazing, you could even mod the maps and do the singleplayer campaign together. there was even a small roleplaying community, haha.
>Wasteland
i only ever played W2, and it was a huge disappointment. do NOT get excited for W3 or support brian fargo, EVER. that nigger reneges on stretch goals and ignores feedback. Wasteland 2 was a worse game than the Fallout 2 fan projects.
You don't need generals when /vg/ exists. Go there.
>/vg/
/vg/ is where game discussion goes to die
3 is far worse you pleb
/fog/ is just a namefag circlejerk like everything on /vg/
>seeing tribes attempting to form and settle sounds interesting
That's basically what Fallout 1 is. We see the emergence of small settlements and trade routes being established. Over the course of two games, we see Shady Sands go from a small village to one of the most powerful factions in the wasteland.
Most of the lore, from the NCR to the Vault experiments to the Enclave to most of the backstory of the ghouls/mutants to the proliferation of tribals and raiders, came in the second game. So did most of the tone that people now associate with it with the dark humor and focus on the sins of the past.
It's kind of weird to consider how different 1 was from the rest of the games; it's like comparing ANH to its sequels.
No it isn't, dumbass.
Just to play devil's advocate, the settings of 3 and 4 didn't have situations that enabled governments to form and move things along.
In the Capital Wasteland the super mutant threat was being barely contained because the Brotherhood were the only ones with enough firepower to deal with. It's not until after 3 that the Brotherhood seems to have gotten enough of a leg up to become de facto rulers of the region.
In 4 the Institute has been building up generations of mistrust and paranoia. The one major attempt to start a overarching government failed because of them (either directly or indirectly depending on whose story you believe).
Granted the areas still shouldn't look as ramshackle as they do after 200 years, the main towns should be bigger and better constructed.

did they fix fallout 76 yet?
So I've modded up Fallout 4 with all the base prerequisites, I'm playing my original run build, level 80 and I've pretty much run out of things to do besides build settlements. Nothing is that much of a challenge and it doesnt seem like theirs much to explorer.
I'm not looking to completely overhaul the game or mechanics, but some recommendations for light survival mechanics and harder enemies/more spawns would be cool.
Also looking for any decent mod that will allow me to set up raids on my settlements that are actually hard? Thanks.

She gives out the fun mission of hunting down brother hood search parties and what not.
3.6, not great not terrible
Reminder that if you don't play Fallout 1 with retard-tier intelligence, you played the game wrong.
I bet you like 76
>the writing in 2 is pretty bad
it is worse, it has a bunch of lame humor, enemies are HP sponges, it has too many references to the 1st game, it has a lot of bloat
You should still play it.
>it has a lot of bloat
Pretty much everything in 2 is optional.
There's basically no role-playing elements in that your skills don't translate to quest or dialogue choices, it's the usual barebones [Intimidate] to spook people away and avoid combat or get info, [Persuade] to avoid fighting or get info, or [Barter] to get a discount or see more items. That's the extent of your choices in a few situations, but you get to choose one of 3 or so factions you can be a part of and do 5 or so missions for. Variety is basically purely combat-oriented, and if you're a slut for making builds in these sort of games for pure gameplay/ combat purposes, i'd say Underrail is probably one of the best in this regard. Every weapon type has something different or unique about it, with every perk and item you get being explicitly geared towards one or many styles of play. Every possible item to use and path to take in terms of a build is sufficiently fleshed out to the point where you can reach the end of the game just fine using one type of weapon.
There was a point where I wanted to use heavy armor and a sledgehammer, but noticed I had no movement points due to my armor's immense weight. So I remade my character, took the perks to lighten encumberance, and reduce the encumbrance of metal armor, found a weightless boot armor that increased my move speed/ points, and reduced melee AP usage, and used lighter metal plates+ that perk and was able to move at a reasonably fast rate, and, with a special type of metal for my sledgehammer, and the sledgehammer belt, attack three times instead of the usual two.
If you're interested in a neat world set purely underground with its own quirks, a sort of cyberpunk/ post apocalyptic aesthetic, and the ability to craft your own supergear/ make any sort of build you'd want, and many more, then you could end up liking it a lot. But if you're going for a deep immersive RPG where you can alter quest outcomes with various choices, you'll find it lacking in that regard.
it's unironically my favorite game

That's not a problem.
