Anyone here have a vidya youtube channel? What's your experience with it?
How do you find time to make videos between your other hobbies and responsibilities?
I have had a channel for a few years now and enjoy making shit but it's hard when you have a job and school and shit getting in the way.

Once you realize that view count and quality of content are in no way related it’s easy to just make what you want and not give a shit. Outside of the small amount of people that can make a living off of it a channel should just be a hobby that you do for fun.

i dont personally have a YT channel but i have a close friend who does. He works a full time job and when he's making videos he just make them hoping that one day he will make Pewds type of money, and that's just a retarded mindset if you ask me.

Just keep making videos if you like to but do not aspire to make it a full time job, because if you dont want to be an unboxing videos for fucking toddlers you are going to be fucked in the ass HARD.

Youtube is a shit show right now: oversaturation of gaming channels, DIYs and now fucking hollywood is coming in.

>TFW no a guy who is 30 years old and lives with his mom
>He quit his job to be a full time streamer and no longer pays rent
>His family is subsidizing his shit and his gf left him once she realized he wont ever have the money to marry him

This, I do shit just because I feel like creating it, usually guide-like or education related

Here's something I did recently

It's sad that the only reason why channels like Ross have an audience is because he got big doing other shit. Ross's Game Dungeon amazing but people only watch it because he is the "Freeman's Mind" guy.

>Make video about obscure videogame
>Developers watch it and respond to it
It's honestly a great feel.

Not me but my friend has a small channel that he uploads to once every other month. He said the worst part is voice recording and finding the time to edit.
youtube.com/watch?v=5UuZyhg-e1M Is probably his best video if you like Star Control.

>Yea Forums channel has memes

By writing scrips on and off until I have one that works.

Your videos get recommended based on watch time though.

I have one. I make high level playthroughs and casual streams when I have time. I have way less time lately so it's basically on hiatus.

People typically like what I make which always feels good but I still have frustratingly low subs. All of the business/copyright aspects of youtube make my skin crawl too.

I have a channel which I started up few years ago, with intention it to be compilation of just clips about games. Then, interest raised up, and I started to get more on gaming and try to do different things. Currently having received capture card for PS2, I'm about to make playthroughs of all PS2 games I have.

Also in regard of time, weekends and vacations are good time for doing videos, I really just attempt to live healthy life with healthy mind so that I would be motivated to do what I started out.

I could link it if anybody is even on Yea Forums unironically interested in vidyas, no matter what kind of games they are.

Had one.
All I did was shitpost and play anime games (new, old, good, bad, etc)
Somehow got the literally ironic weeaboo audience (the kind where they mock anime while liking it so they seem less insufferable but it actually makes them more), the ironic weeaboo audience, & the autistic audience. Probably only got subs because I regularly gave away free games to subs every month or so.

When you do things you like, you find time to do it between obligations and responsibilities, even if it happens slowly. It differs from person to person, and I just happened to have a lot of free time. Honestly, if we were back in 2005-2010, I'd do it again but I would try to not get the ironic weeaboo memer crowd. I would never attempt to do it again today though if I had the opportunity.

Telling people on youtube where they can mail you shit is a mistake.

What’s a high level play through?

I'm building one atm, don't have a lot of free time and I'd hate to upload at an irregular schedule, sometimes twice a week while sometimes once every few months. So what I'm doing is recording a bunch of playthroughs and only then start it so no matter what I always have a head start between what I'm recording and what people will see. If anyone's interested:

Currently getting ready to make videos. On vidya and other stuff. Like books and stupid shorts.

Going to skip setting up a patreon and just have people donate directly to my PayPal when they feel like it.

Dont know what to expect other than a myriad of copyright claims.

It's okay, I just do it for fun but the pocket money is nice

At what point would you say you "made it" on youtube? 100,000 subs?

Highest difficulty challenge runs. No damage, no using seemingly essential items. That sort of thing.

It was a PO Box

I have some ideas to make into 6-8 decent quality videos, then probably never touch the channel again. Should I do it? Or do you have to be a weekly subfag. I don't into yt production

>other than a myriad of copyright claims.
Oh yeah that's the fun part, nothing better than a video you've worked hard on getting hit by a third party company you've never heard of, one video I posted had 15 claims, 99% they don't take the video down but it sucks when you can't make a penny from it and they get all the revenue because of a 10 second audio clip of some generic sound effect they own

That's still a place I could mail someone something funky. Its youtube, what did you expect?

You should do it if you want those videos to be made. You shouldn't do it if you want those videos to be seen.

Isn't it only around $2 per 1000 views now?

I do longplay and it's a lot of fun as a hobby alongside a full time job.

They are not the type of videos that drive subscribers but sometimes I get positive comments.

One year I'll get to 1000 subscribers.

youtu.be/CxZrBqZyGxs

you shouldn't aim for bucks while making videos and everyone in this thread that tries to monetize their content is soulless

That’s probably a good long term strategy to make videos about semi obscure video games since the fan base is so starve for content they will really enjoy any decently produced work. It also gives Yea Forums core cred for only making stuff about obscure games.

I was 16 when I started YouTube, I was naive and never thought that someone would send me pigs blood three years later.

Yeah about that, it depends on the CPC rate and how many mid-rolls are put on the video but yeah, sounds about right

makes sense, I suppose

Attached: 1541912897215.gif (360x240, 788K)

Imagine how much they make if these no name third party companies go around claiming hundreds of videos a day from kids who don't know any better

>all those small youtube channels run by 11 year olds that have their videos claimed by molebeat

I have one, I mostly started my channel because of I was sick of other game channels.

It's been a moderate success. I do feel like it's a grind, especially if you want to grow. I'm going to give up trying to grow by playing the latest and greatest, and instead focus on things I find interesting or am passionate about in gaming.

I really feel like even if you aren't overly successful on youtube, if you're at least enjoying yourself it's a much better endeavor.

I personally have been in a bit of a rut because of that so I'm going to go back and try and improve my content, by giving more of a hoot.

When you can sustain yourself on YouTube view money and Patron shekels alone

I'm going about life all wrong.

>Don’t want to put ads on my videos but youtube promotes videos far more if they have ads on them

I really think to be successful with Youtube you have to be both charismatic and someone that loves video editing enough to do it constantly, kind of like how Jontron started out. Option 2 is being rich and being able to hire your own personal video editor. I know how to do basic video editing myself but I hate the process so much I know I could never do it regularly, and I'm poor so yeah no hope for me..

Whats your channel about?

Has that been proven? I don't care about making money, but if it would promote my videos and actually get them to people I'd consider it.

>no a guy
Is it you?

No commentary full gameplay videos, that's it to be honest and I'm shocked I ever got any views let alone money from them

Yes it has. In fact it’s literally the only thing that youtube will effect your video for besides viewtime.

I did, I quit it in favor of doing audio books that no one watches but I still get subscribers because they all want me to read another series of books. Most of my commenters are ESLs from the middle east, yet my analytics say most of my views come from America. Anyone know what the fuck is going on?

Attached: qwerqwerqwer.png (945x510, 46K)

Dunno but it looks like you should give Denmark a visit.

are you sure its just cause no one watched your channel Matthew?

Someone with 50k subs here. Made a concept video for a general on /vg/. Channel exploded in popularity shortly after. Plataeuing right now, but here's a few things I've noticed.

1. you're basically an online babysitter
2. something you say will influence people to do stupid things
3. even though you are not responsible for other people, you are still witchhunted if something bad happens
4. even with consistent uploads, you still must pray to the RNG gods
5. a 10 minute random video may get more views than a video you worked on for 20 hours
6. if you cover a niche, you have to cover it forever. trying to switch will make subscribers leave
7. people unironically think you are obligated to upload and entertain them all the time
8. if you take a break, people will harass you
9. many comments found on your videos will be absolutely fucking stupid
10. you will realize just how much of the population is retarded
11. believe it or not, most of the viewers on youtube are ages 18-24, so if you want to make content, try to aim for humour in that range
12. the weirder your voice, the better. as long as you can speak clearly, your accent , tone, inflections will not matter. I thought my voice is terrible. All people do is compliment me.

Most importantly

Do not try to make videos that appeal to Yea Forums. Yea Forums says they hate a lot of things, but most people here watch lets plays and streams. Do not fall for the >lets plays, and >streams meme. I've made more money doing this than actually putting together videos with discussions / topics before.

I started streaming on twitch just recently. I received 35 subs in the first week alone.

If anyone calls you a fucking idiot for doing youtube/streaming and you are MAKING MONEY FROM IT, they're a fucking idiot. They are the one who has to drive to work and deal with deadlines and schedules. All you really have to do in my shoes is be an online babysitter, scream a little, and sit at home all day.

>don't make videos
>don't stream
>too shy to talk with mic
>start to talk to myself while playing vidya as if I had an audience
>explain some tips to them
>review the game as if I was talking to them
Is it autism?

Attached: 1544220471415.gif (459x459, 2.6M)

Yes. Holy shit, I can barely talk to people in VRChat, let alone real life, but I can at least talk into a microphone, edit it into a video, and upload that shit. How the fuck do people like you even function?

Yeah a lot of people like to think you'll never make it just doing let's plays or streaming unless your a complete sell out or a thot, it's all bullshit, you can be painfully average and still make decent money from it

Are Let's Plays viable in 2019?

Fuck no. Even game grumps is hurting.

One of my motivators. I want to see the wierd people I attract.

I'm betting French viewers for some rreason. Usually the people I meet online anyhow.

whoops quoted the wrong guy at first
could you elaborate the prank stuff?
like how do you sent someone pigs blood?
what other stuff did they do?

What are the hottest games to do let's play of? And also how in the ever loving name of hell do you shill your channel? Here? Reddit? Hope for a miracle and wait for YT itself to somehow recommend your videos to others?

>10. you will realize just how much of the population is retarded

dude just spending time in general on any kind of social network should teach you that very quickly

Not him but you get self conscious about your voice sometimes.

From my experience it's completely random, I've been left exhausted staying up all night waiting for a brand new AAA game to be released, play it all the way through in one sitting, edit and upload it only for it to get a few thousand views, then I'll play some 10 year old PC game and it becomes my most viewed video ever with 700k+ views

Most of the pranks were from the more retarded subscribers I think, they might not have thought they were pranks at all. The pigs blood came in a bubble wrapped jar in a box, I know you can buy that stuff at some groceries because I know a Filipino guy who eats "pigs blood soup". I made a joke video about needing blood in order complete a magic rune circle for some dumb paranormal joke video I was making.
The next one was from some guy that just didn't like me probably. I never posted the PO box anywhere, but I used it whenever I gave away prizes and I always announced winners, so whoever did it might have asked what the address was because I didn't recognize the return address (or it may have been fake). It was a bunch of dead cockroaches.

>Are Let's Plays viable in 2019?

??

Starting from scratch in 2019 is incredibly difficult but still not impossible, if you've been going slow and steady for even just a couple of years it helps a lot. It seems like half the time it's just up to the luck of the algorithms if any of your content gets put on the recommended list. I've had videos out for years that suddenly get a surge of viewers

Third time happened to my friend. Made a joke about starting a militia with the purpose killing furries, clowns, and clown furries, and even photoshopped some cheap looking militia symbol along with "branches" for R&D, intelligence, front line troops, etc. One guy took it a little seriously and started making merchandise and sent it to a friend in Spain who was in on the joke. This Spanish friend didn't even give an address or his real name, but he did say the post office location, and somehow got the merchandise because the PO "figured it was for him". The guy who made the merch even asked for money in exchange for the merch (despite no one ever asking for it to be made and after having already sent it). That particular subscriber I KNOW is 20 right now (15 when he made the stuff).

Residual income is crazy important.
>In the arms of the angels.mp3
Just 2 dollars a day can help save a poor youtuber.

Joking aside. Even a small youtuber making a consistent 2 dollars a day is a success in my book.

Attached: 06WILSON-articleLarge.jpg (600x398, 24K)

Yup, and that's at least 1k views a day, if you can get those numbers then you'll only get more popular over time

What affects com? Sometimes I make $10 on a video but other times I make almost nothing with twice as many views. Sorry I'm new to this.

Yes help me pls

Just started streaming about twice a week for the past few weeks. I mean I get an average of 5 viewers but it still is super fun at the moment. Edited together a compilation of stream highlights recently which was ok I think my niche is Gamecube games atm
Anyhow, super fun. Hope I don't hate it eventually

Attached: 1553365395767.jpg (1200x1084, 145K)

Watch time mainly, people might be watching your other content for longer

Last time was when I found out a sub tried looking for me irl. Other than vague locations (middle of a field, camera pointed at a brick wall, etc.) I don't recall ever posting anything that would give away my exact location, but I guess because of the PO box was enough of a hint. That sub never found me, but it bothered me enough that I slowly stopped making videos until I just deleted the channel without warning.
I never spoke out about any of the above though, since I thought it would exacerbate the problem.
Overall, even though it came with a lot of bad, I don't regret it. Made a bunch of friends that I still hang out with on Skype to this day.

alright thanks for the stories user

Yeah

I do long form content. My average video length is about 30 minutes. I have videos that are 2 hours long that obviously have a shitload of ads in them.

It's about doing what works for you. The whole "15 minute meme" is a meme, but as long as you're making consistently decent content you'll be fine regardless of length/views.

Attached: pretty good.jpg (1280x720, 222K)

Attached: 1438797565638.jpg (492x634, 44K)

I'm sure once I make my Pepsiman review, I'll hit 500k subs in no time.

Attached: 2k53qznx.png (383x404, 173K)

if i had better upload i'd do bunch of playtroughs. i got hundreds of 360 games and other bunch of xbone games. i wouldn't care about money or success of those videos.

I have a very hard time actually making video reviews. I have like 10 outlines on topics I want to cover, but have a very hard time figuring out what assets to use or how to write it out. How do other anons do it?

What do you use to record older games?

I have an elgato to record consoles. If and when I care to record older non-HDMI consoles I'll invest in an upscaler. Otherwise emulation with OBS/Shadowplay

Attached: Bridge.webm (1280x720, 2.87M)

The algorithm killed it because even though my content is pretty much radio clean thats too graphic for youtube. A rated E for everyone video of mine was recently flagged for being inappropriate for minors. Literally every game I play I censor all words, in title description and even the video game content itself and it still flags.

Its literally impossible to play video games now on youtube or anywhere really.
Only corporations can push or share anything.
Corps have made it so that their content is the only accepted ones and they made it a mortal sin to post or share anything you make anywhere.

Even Yea Forums the most hardcore freedom website in existent bends to the mighty corporate cock like good little moneybags then autistically bitches about all the posts and content from corporations flooding the internet everywhere they go.

Gamergate and sjws won and Yea Forums let them.

Attached: YouTubeCurseWords.png (870x2776, 958K)

have some more

Do you put in custom ads or just what youtube automatically puts in them?

>waste dozens of hours across multiple days to make a video
>barely any views
youtube.com/watch?v=dLQG2K9NyYg
>make a really dumb "tutorial" in less than half an hour
>thousands of views
youtube.com/watch?v=Ff-1NenrWwI

It's not that I don't understand how to play the youtube game it's just that I really would rather not to. I really hate making these dumb tutorial videos even if I could get a shit ton of subs and views from them. I just enjoy making shitty memey videos with lots of edits and stupid little jokes.

This is probably my favorite video but people don't seem to like these kind of videos youtube.com/watch?v=fNL5gXugUeo
