Fast food is garbage, sugary and cookie-like snacks possibly even worse. But you're genuinely lucky that you're able to lose it after packing it on, for lots of fat people it's truly not that easy. I got consistently fed the worst junk food as a toddler and it fucked up my metabolism/whatever so much it's taken almost 30 years to even start losing it despite literally trying everything and never eating junk food again and always watching my diet mostly veg and low-fat protein types and exercising like a madman (was doing 2500 crunches/day, 200 pushups and biking 50 miles at one point but there aren't enough hours in the day to keep that up for more than 6 months consistently). It's literally taken 15 years of sacrificing 3+ hours a day to replace a majority of fat with muscle but I can almost feel my body's fat cells fighting everything I do (of which people who were fat as a child have up to ten times more and it's not like you can literally kill fat cells unfortunately, they're always there sending out hormones to the rest of the body and brain, and when they detect they're underfed they start sending out "hibernation" ie energy conservation signals). Yes everyone including fat people should diet and intermittent fast and exercise like mad, but if it were that simple and easy it wouldn't be such an epidemic:

And what to do when you've been doing exactly that since forever with poor results and you have no money for surgery? If you're not lucky and then rather than continue burning 2000 kcalories/day your body will simply dial back its energy consumption to 1300-1500 kcalories and make you feel depleted. And you need a minimum of protein to build muscle but whether your body turns that into muscle from exercise or just converts it to stored energy in fat is pretty much a roll of the dice no matter how hard you exercise. Like I said if you can lose it great, but it's not that easy for everyone, if only. Now I'm not and never been more than 120kg at 6'2 and now at 96 but losing 15-20 more is fucking hard and requires a literally perfect balancing act of diet, exercising like mad, and intermittent fasting (but not so much to make your body go into low-energy mode). Closest I've gotten is 92 but I only had enough time for that much exercise two years ago and will likely never again. Trust me this shit has completely dominated my life since forever and it gets progressively harder with age. Human evolution has made us so adept at conserving energy during famines and so shit at losing it during the age of abundance it's an uphill struggle.

Not sure what they mean exactly by behavioural compensation, but in my case on days I went balls to the wall with exercise I couldn't do much else despite pumping myself full of caffeine so I could at least stay awake after.

Been doing it for decades or I'd still be 120kg.

Whenever I run regularly I physically can't eat enough to keep my weight from plummeting. I struggle maintaining my weight normally, add running and it becomes much harder for me not to start going stick mode. I've been running every day this week and eating shit like cakes just so I don't drop 10 pounds again.

if you exercising you would lose weight by eating more then 1500 kcals. You are overeating and are doing one of these things wrong:
- You overcount your calories burned from excersise
- you didn't calculate your TDEE correctly
- you do not measure your food correctly
- you are eating/drinking things and don't put them in your calorie log

I went from 120kg to 95 and then from 105 back to 92 and so on so several times at multiple year intervals so I don't think so, last miles are the hardest so I'm not going to change up now, if you think I haven't re-examined everything countless times then you probably don't know how much I fucking hate being and having been fat.

If you gained the weight back you haven't been following you diet plan. You ate more then you should have and if your diet plan is so great you wouldn't need "mulitple year intervals" to only lose 13kg. Back to the drawing board with you.

That's back when I was learning how 15 years ago, I haven't been above 100 for 10 years so no, it works, just gets progressively harder with age and when life doesn't afford you the luxury of being able to sacrifice half your day for it. 13kg from now would be almost perfect weight for my build and height, and you're forgetting replacing fat with muscle and now being able to lift 180kg when I once struggled with 100 all the while so you're wrong but whatever, thanks for caring so much user.
