I liked the latest episode. As usual the biggest problem is James trying too hard to be funny.

The best of his videos consisted of gameplay footage and him talking over it and making jokes. I mean, it's really neat he gets people like M. It's not even low key, he has basically been phased out of all Cinemassacre productions, a stark contrast to when he was Mad King Mike and was basically the ONLY content for a long time (Elmo in Grouchland and Mineycrafta being only a few of the jewels in his crown)

Often talks faster and screeches without many good lines interspersed. The only good videos on the whole channel are AVGN and James solo videos though, the screenfatties and Psychoface Matei can't hack it.

To be fair, even the earlier episodes are hit or miss. I'd say there's considerably fewer that are misses there though. Only a few specific standouts are really annoying, and it's mostly because of Mike, like the Wizard of Oz episode, he was fucking irritating as shit as the lion, I don't care that it was the intention. In the new ones though, there's a lot of sub-par ones, like the KH one, the Sonic 06 ones, and Sega Activator. Most don't hit below average (e.g. an average one would be the Dirty Harry one) but few are really great (e.g. Power Rangers). I still like it and readily anticipate new ones, but it really depends. He tends to also fall flat on some of the newer games (e.g. Charlie's Angels) but not all, some are good (e.g. Seaman, Big Rigs).

I was watching his making of video yesterday and he mentioned how the quality of the episode depends a lot on the game he is playing. I feel like the subpar episodes come from something like that. The NES library has A LOT of garbage games that have an element of weirdness about them. With the retro libraries thinning down, newer games would be the next step, except they won't have some of the NES issues like lack of buttons leading to awkward controls or sprites that don't do a good job representing what they should.
