Personally I think an "Avoid Player" feature, though still needing work on the implementation, it actually a pretty damn decent middle ground and a LOT better then bans, machine learning hellbans for subjective "toxicity" and most of the other crap. It's a tool for individuals, don't like someone you don't have to play with them. It might need exceptions for the very top, like they police the top 1k or something who can't be avoided if you want to rank that high, but that wouldn't affect most people. A sunset provision might be good too, so avoids expire after a year or two say so there is some chance to change. But nobody has to stop playing the game, nobody has taste forced on them, all of us who don't give a single fuck what bantz the other players do can play that way and instead just avoid shitters. Honestly seems like a fine foundation.

Not him but one problem this game has is that the 'pro games' consist of a banning phase where a total of 12 heroes will be banned. In public matchmaking games there are far less bans and theyre much more random. This means that pub games very much spin around one specific meta and theres no room for anything else. And because it is a teamgame you cannot think like 'oh I'm gonna surprise enemy by playing this unusual hero' because you playing unusual hero will also affect how your team will be able to play with you.

The old Overwatch one would completely remove them from your game pretty much, the new one in Overwatch just blocks them from being on your team. I'd assume that Valve went with the latter for the Dota 2 iteration.

Dota 2 has been trying to be League of Legends for years, and finally managed with 7.00. 7.00 was fun for its first unveiling, it felt like a Dota renaissance.
But all it did was lead the game to become boring, stale.

For years now, Valve has cared more about nickel and diming people by hiding new features/content behind the Battlepass paywall, to the extent that we got more fun updates and content during the fucking beta.
What content do you get now? One or two heroes a year, each of them boring LoL-likes? It used to be that you had heroes to look forward to. There was interesting lore to read. It felt like they were actually going to do something with this universe. In the end, they just turned it into a chink cash shop.

Same thing with TF2 too. Used to look forwards to updates, now it's all just hats. You get one or two new weapons every three year or so.
