I like all BoF except 1 and 6. Yes, I actually like 5, too. It's pretty unique but was ahead of its time and Capcom rushed the team.
4 was way too easy compared to 3, but visually 4 excelled; it was one of the best looking PS1 games imo.

Nah, man. That shit was intentional. You don't end your game calling attention to the nigga being not dead if you just ran out of time. They intended to let him live from the start. And it was beautiful.
Yuna's survival adds so much to the story. Tyu and Fou's comflict at the end has more meaning because he's still alive. Any other RPG would have the whole "are humans bad or good" argument with the good guys going NUH UH after all the bad guys are dead. Not Breath of Fire 4. No, sir. By leaving Yuna a live it adds that complexity to the argument. What's more it adds to the concept that the whole ending was humanity getting a second chance to fuck things up or not and it's up to everyone to do better. Even assholes who refuse to change.
Yuna's survival was a stroke of goddamn genius.

Nah the best one by far is 4. Bof3 is fun but it gets old really fast with its constant nonsequiters to keep your party from doing what they want. The story doesn't feel organic in the slightest and you'll notice it pretty early. The dragon gene system isn't as cool as everyone remembers either since you'll just end up using the strongest combo you have anyway
BoF4 has a story that clips along with purpose, has a great villain, combat is better, characters are better and on and on. Keep the fond memories of 3 but don't go back or they'll all be ruined by your adult brain.
