Darkwood

Got recommended this game on Yea Forums, I really dig the aesthetics and atmosphere so far, yet I suck ass at it. I'm on my 2nd day and cant survive the night because some guy just comes in through the window and kills me. It feels like my small brain is missing something, any tips/tricks for a beginner idiot like me?

Acquire greatness

I was always shit at games like this, all I want is some tips because I really dont wanna spoil it on Youtube

Bumping cause I too would like some tips

dont open the coffin

You can use planks and nails to bar the windows and doors, and can also place furniture in front of them to hinder attackers even more
Stay near the light at all times, and away from any openings to the outside, don't let them see you
Even with all of this they can and will still come through, so be ready with a weapon

Planks and weapons is exactly what I lack, I find all sorts of useless stuff but not them

Explore more nigga
Keep an eye out for wood stashes laying around the map

I was lucky enough to have a lumber area spawn just west of my house. Lots of wood and nails.

Had a similar experience. Feel like I'm bumbling getting used to the basics.

Anyone have preferences for controller layout? I can't decide whether to break out the gamepad or try to get used to the keyboard defaults.

Are you... a moth?

I explored the whole area fully (or so it feels), and found 3 planks and no weapons (a lot of nails tho)
Is it a good idea to go deeper in the forest with only a torch or am I missing something?

Alway have a flare at night.

why

There really should be some lumber areas, go explore again.

You'll see

Never heard of this game, but Darkwood is also a really good band that I want to shill desu.

O-ok

>Didn't turn on any lights
>Just hid behind a door and remained extremely quiet
>Things came into the house, but nothing found me

Mind you, it's been ages since I last played and chances are this strategy only works for the first few nights.

Use the table saw to chop wood into planks, it uses gas, but there's more than enough of it around, mostly
maybe set bear traps near windows(don't walk into them yourself by accident)

>(don't walk into them yourself by accident)
That's what I did with literally all the pre-set traps

Attached: 1557268097071.jpg (603x837, 399K)

If you hear very heavy footsteps you'll better block the fucking door

Don't feel too bad, some of them are fucking near impossible to spot even if you stand and look around, which you should do btw

>explore around the house
>look for chopped-down trees or lumber yards
>bring a shitton of logs and nails back to the house
>use saw machine by front door to cut logs into planks
>use planks and nails to barricade all windows
>hide in a corner out of sight of any windows as soon as night falls

once you start upgrading yourself with mushrooms spirits will occasionally spawn at night that will hurt you if you aren't standing next to a light source

This game was pretty entertaining but had shit combat. Recommend me similar games

>lights go out

You're going to love night 3/4, I forget which one he comes on. Just remember to not look at him unless you wanna have a bad time.

>interior door creaks open
>slowly walk over and shut it
>nothing else happens
this game fucked me up good

Attached: 1523404390037.jpg (482x427, 58K)

>Harvey Birdman, Doctor of CAW
This one got me something fierce.
>Not sure what's going on, hiding behind a bookcase (using as an alcove and not cornering self behind it)
>Don't hear the usual dogs or tribals or spooky sprites killing the lights
>Door creaks open very slowly and someone is peeking in
>Look away cause it's not a Dog or anything that's going to kill me and remember Anons said something about this
>He walks up right behind me and stands there as I'm just staring at the corner
>Then backs off and even closes the door
>Day breaks
I nearly shit myself just sitting there.

Be a good neighbour and open your door when the boys scouts coming knocking

pull the furniture to the corner of the room and hide behind it over night.

how long is this game btw? I barely know anything about it, is there a story mode or is it just about surviving as long as you can like don't starve? I really like tha atmosphere of the game, I might give it a try

Ifyou follow the lights outside the house at night you are sometimes rewarded with treasure. Or is it if you answer the door?

Believe me that shit sure as fuck doesn't work once you get to the second safe house. I got through 5 nights doing that at safe house one but two nights in a row at safe house 2 i got my shit rocked each night.
I'm a major scrub and haven't played since then

hot tips:
>get all the windows barricaded by night 2. don't bother barricading the front door because sometimes you'll get a knock at night and if you answer it there will be a backpack with goodies on the ground outside
>pick up everything you find. everything. you can probably use it in some way shape or form. and if you can't use it, you can sell it
>upgrade your workbench to be able to build more items. after the first few upgrades you'll start to need special items you can only get in later areas
>keep an eye out for traps. if you click on them without stepping on them you can salvage them for scrap metal
>use molotov cocktails to kill elk. their antlers sell for a ton of reputation
>getting a flashlight early on is a good idea. if you have it out and on, you may occasionally find spots of light on the ground. these are shiny stones that sell for a lot of rep
>sneak up on rabbits and whack them on the head. they drop odd meat that you can cook like mushrooms
>if you notice a big bird walking around at night, stand in a corner and stare at the wall. it can only hurt you if you're looking at it
>don't go into the underground tunnel until after you have a shovel at 100% durability. there are gun parts you can find by digging past two pieces of rubble off to the left of the entrance. if you go down without a shovel and examine the door, there will be an earthquake and the parts will become unobtainable
>always remember to cook mushrooms before they rot
>don't worry about taking everything from your hideout with you when you're ready to move to a new area. there's an item at the second hideout that you can use to summon an NPC who will ferry your supplies from one hideout to another in exchange for booze
>have molotovs in your hotbar before you go to the wedding
>helping Piotrek will pay dividends later on, but he'll disappear once you finish his quest

4 chapters, 4 areas. Like 3 endings.

It can be long if you suck ass or try to survive some nights in the third Hideout

You progress the story by going deeper into the woods.

Not that user but if you die you lose random items in your inventory. You can lose key items too. I lost the item-ferrying NPC item and fucking ragequit.

>That ambient music build up as dawn approaches
>That piano music after morning comes
kino

BURN THEM ALL

>get in a room with one door and lamps
>board up windows
>put beartraps infront of windows if you can
>get in room close door
>wait

thats it really. find some wood and make weapons, throw some dog meat on the ground outside and also throw glass bottles around entrances

keep a flare on you and dont go outside the room

theres always wood piles that spawn in the area if you havent found at least one or two you missed a spot

I think you can get back the items you lost by returning to the spot where you died. The game even marks the spot on your map

i felt really bad when i had to punch my soldier buddy in the face and take his flame thrower from him. thats all he had left man and he really wanted it :(

youtube.com/watch?v=lb1-BkHQT38

A few things that I learned beating this game
>try your damnedest to get your hands on a real gun
>This might be bad advice, but this is the philosophy that I took, don't waste your time making single use guns unless you are rolling in crafting materials
>For night make sure that as little light is escaping through the cracks in the boarded up windows as possible
>you cant hide forever in night, eventually things will start breaking down your doors and windows
>above all else try to survive the night, the rep bonus with the trader makes it worth it
>inventory upgrades are more important then hotbar upgrades, but do both
>a axe or shovel will significantly increase your chances of winning a fight
>pills are your friend, keep at least two on you at all times
>there is no shame in using a shotgun shell or Molotov for getting out of a sticky situation
Other then that good fucking luck.

Attached: Wolfman.gif (283x424, 2.08M)

You can make a plank of wood with nails in it to use as a melee weapon.

Go away Mr.Chomper, you're not fooling everyone

This game made me realize I'm a huge pussy when it comes to horror.
It doesn't even really have jumpscares or anything like that but the atmosphere and ambience is so unnerving that I actually had to put it down.

Tbh this game is much scarier than most horror games

no, he's actually right. if you answer the knocking at the door you'll find a backpack with an item in it. I think the lights lead you to a shiny stone. and if you investigate a red glow outside you'll find a siren which will fly away and leave behind an embryo that you can cook for a bunch of essence

Yeah yeah I know, but I'd still strongly advise to not do that unless it's your first 5 night and in the first hideout.

Later hideout will fucking kill you the moment you step out into the dark (except the swamp one when you get stronk)

>the red glow is actually beneficial
What in the fuck I always thought that was some chucklefuck outside with a flare baiting me for murder

hideout 2, the worst you'll have to deal with is savages and mutant dogs. it's worth the risk
hideout 3? you don't leave the safety of your hideout for ANYTHING

thanks

Go to the lumber area and find fallen trees. Put them in the wood cutting machine and put just enough gas to make planks, then craft wood plank.

Also to get an advantage on enemies, use the glass bottles you find and throw them under the windows/doors where they enter. It will deal a small amount of damage. Also make chain and beartraps as well.

The first area is dead easy as I think it only has a 50% chance to spawn a savage each night. Just keep practicing and getting used to the combat system and you'll be fine. The later enemies are much worse.

>the pure fucking terror of meeting a banshee for the first time
>shot it with one of my two shotgun shells, only for it to turn all of my lights off and flood me with her children
No game will ever recreate that moment for me.

This game would be a million times better with savespots, actual combat and no perma memedeath.

So what happened to "people" like Wolfman after ending?

Thanks to those bitches I always got a gas bottle ready

Just don't look at them LOL

permameme death is optional, if you're a bitch.

But the game got all of those? I dont think you play it

>savespots
are for casuals
>actual combat
t. only used guns
>no perma memedeath
only happens if you play on the hardest difficulty
D- see me after class

I replayed the game recently and decided to take a closer look at the scribbles on the floor of the dry well tunnels.
Does this look familiar to anyone?

more hot tips:
>when you reach certain thresholds in gaining new skills, you'll black out and have a dream sequence
>one involves walking through the woods and finding a corpse, a shovel, and a grave
>pick up the shovel ASAP
>if you lie down in the grave you'll wake up to find a cookable item in your inventory
>if you don't lie down, a chomper will eventually come out of the forest and rush you
>if you manage to kill said chomper, you'll wake up with a shovel head in your inventory that you can use to craft a shovel
>if the chomper kills you, you get nothing

>another dream sequence involves searching a church
>open the crate by the altar to get a lockpick that you can use to unlock the door to the side room
>check the bookcase/shelf inside for an axe and a box
>make sure to equip the axe before picking up the box
>once you've gotten the box a chomper will start breaking down the door
>juke it and run back into the main room with the pews so you have more room to maneuver
>depending on whether or not you manage to kill the chomper, what you find when you visit the church in the real world will change
>you'll get to keep the box no matter what

>tips
Why don't you just write a walkthrough or link to one.

I never noticed this one

Either a reference to the roots of the being spreading like an infection through the forest and eventually reaching the people or a nod to the centipede people later on
Possibly the way the being came to the forest tho I don't recall any quote about a meteor (maybe why the military was here in the first place ??), it reminds of the color from outer space from lovecraft.

Explore the place to find wood and shit which you can process into planks(your house has a sawmill, make sure it has enough gas or it won't process wood into planks). Make a plank+nail weapon and barricade windows. Ctrl let's you dodge shit. Against savages you don't really need evasion, it's been a while but attack-step back-attack cycle worked for me since it interrupts them.

>write a walkthrough
laziness
>link to one
I like to feel smart about video games

Attached: Idort.png (5000x3600, 92K)

Are you barricading your shit so that your house isn't lit up like a christmas tree? Barricade your windows(upgrade it with planks and nails)/push bookshelves to block it and any holes in the walls. Make use of bear traps if you're still not used to the combat, it stuns enemies while you can beat the shit out of them. Repair the well to get free heals and don't be afraid to die unless you're playing on super hard.

Make sure to get a board with nails first day, east to craft.

Can anyone recommend any good indie games like this? I need something new to play and haven't enjoyed anything since Darkwood.

Enter the Gungeon, Darkwood, and Into the Breach were last Indie games I enjoyed. Sekiro was okay. Nothing holds or catches my interest anymore but I know there are some gems out there in the hoard of shit on steam.

yeah the first one was rather hard to frame correctly since it's so long, but I reckon that it resembles a stretched-out stick figure with multiple sets of arms. and

I dont own a computer and Im super happy I just find out that this is actually finally coming out on PS4 next week. Preordered immediatly. Ive watched some gameplay videos on youtube when the game originally came out and it has really nailed the overall atmosphere. Literally cant wait till next tuesday I can finally play this game

>Into the Breach
Did you play FTL as well?

>And ...
RIP user eaten by swarm banshee babies

Of course, unlocked every ship, variant, achievement, etc. But thanks.

>Can anyone recommend any good indie games like this?
not really like this, but maybe try Teleglitch

Figured.
Kinda different, but if you're looking for something that doesn't hold your hand and expects you to piece things together on your own - give Return of the Obra Dinn a chance. One of my favorite indies in a long time.

>if you notice a big bird walking around at night, stand in a corner and stare at the wall. it can only hurt you if you're looking at it
This is a bad idea. Banshee will trigger her attack if she gets in contact with you. You need to keep walking around if she is in your hideout.

store.steampowered.com/app/593560/The_Last_Cargo/

I found this game shortly after completing Darkwood. It has a lot of similar mechanics but I was too burnt out on Darkwood to finish playing it. I might get back to it soon.

Furthermore if the banshee has line of sight on you it will follow you and on contact will scream.

Shitting in a corner while looking at a wall won't work especially with human spider and chomper cunt just deal with the ol fashion way, a molotov or gas bottle to the head or better yet block doors and windows because banshees do jack shit against barricade

There usually is a weird place near the first safe house. like lots tangled roots with one light source and some furniture and maybe couple items. Is this just a baitplace to stay at night or is there more to it? Do you get anything if you kill the chomper at wedding? I just run away as fast as I could. Is there actually anything else to the wedding expect the dancing ghosts and chomper?

Light attracts enemies in night so turn off lamps but keep your generator on if night ghosts will want to fuck you up. When night ghosts appear other enemies will not spawn (i never get into fight with different enemies when ghosts appear) so then it's just running back to correct lamp that isn't short circuited by them.
Don't run around unless you have to, walk slowly, noise will attract enemies. Always have a additional way out, don't pick Moth skill, healing from mushrooms is much better. Eggs don't spoil so you can stockpile them and use them in 3rd hideout for maximum skill points efficiency. Also wedding is the best part in the game. WE'VE. BEEN. WAITING. FOR. (YOU).

>Is this just a baitplace to stay at night or is there more to it?
turning on the generator there gives a brief glimpse into an inaccessible area behind some roots where some chompers are gestating. You might have missed it since its only visible for a few seconds total
>Do you get anything if you kill the chomper at wedding?
no, she disappears in a puff of smoke when she dies. Killing her gives you an opportunity to loot the building in peace though, since when you leave the locked door re-locks and you can't get in again

DANCE WITH ME!

Ok, luckily I looted the place completely before I triggered the chomper.
I'm on second hideout and I still cant survive a night if more than one savage bursts in. Makes me want to move back to first hideout since I cant get any reputation to buy parts because I die every night. Also the chompers are pain to deal with, they always get me, even if I'm using the shovel or axe. I need to get better at combat

Shame this game has no side stepping and front leap to close the distance to enemies, only dodge back and need to look away from the enemy to side step is a bit wierd. What I want is:
>Press arrow and dodge
>You dodge/leap in direction of the move key you holded.

Attached: 1546202034383.png (1160x1720, 1.26M)

ps4 port please

>Teleglitch

That game is fucking difficult, I never got further than lvl 5 or so where you get ambushed by two security droids. I mean, I'm not bad at that kind of games, I usually find a lot of secret areas, but still... I would love to get back to it but the graphics are so ugly, they make me sick watching it.

literally just announced a week ago
youtube.com/watch?v=OU-mR3LY-OI

Sweet, I'll finally get to play.

you really can't run this game?

In my experiance literally every night brings at least two stick savages or two large dogs. dogs can be baited into running past you so you can smack them in the side, while you'll want to place bear traps under windows to catch the savages as they climb in. glass bottles can also be thrown to create glass shard traps that deal damage to enemies but not you.

or just get a gun, the pistol will destroy them but makes a lot of noise. also, bullets left unspent will be discarded with a reload so make sure you use all of them.

All I have is a laptop for work, my living conditions are just small enough to not allow a real pc; one day though.

Fuck I need to play this game, that sort of shit would fuck me up good.

WE'VE
BEEN
WAITING
FOR
(YOU)

scavenge for wood and board up shit. there's a bunch of wood on the north west side of the first shack. just be careful of dogs.

should i just start a new game ? i havent played this in 6 months

Isn't the map randomized each time?

it is? I've died and had the map be the same. I'm not the most knowledgeable about darkwood by any means, but I just wanted to share what helped me get through the early days.

When i played that game, i never saw a clock.
I ended my exploration very soon because i feared I`ll miss the sunset.
Is there a cue that i missed? Or the player is supposed to use his own IRL clock?

Game runs super well even for a potato though, Oh well do you want. I just can't imagine how bad the controls will be with a controller though. You'll have an easier time with a mouse.

It gets randomized every new game you start. Not on death

oh okay, my bad.

With the PS4 and switch port, I guess threads for this game will skyrocket again. Just like the switch port for Rain World so get ready guys and help these console noobs.

Rain world if you like survival games and map exploration
